Everyone has to at some point install or reinstall Windows XP for the first time. Many are afraid to do this themselves and entrust the installation to specialists, although even a novice user can easily cope with this procedure.

Actually, the installation process of any version of Windows is initially developed by Microsoft specialists in such a way that even a beginner can handle it. After reading this article, you will learn how to do this and understand that installing Windows is not difficult.

* Preparing to install Windows XP

If you want install or reinstall Windows XP on a computer that is no longer new - transfer from the system partition (Usually C) all the files that you want to save to other partitions of the hard drive. This does not apply to programs; they will still have to be reinstalled.

It is advisable to have disks with drivers from:

In principle, Windows has its own driver library, which it uses during installation, but there is no guarantee that everything you need will be found. Although you can always find the missing driver on the Internet. If you are reinstalling an already working system, make a backup of the installed drivers and save it on any partition other than the system one.

Programs such as Double Driver and the like will help you with this. It is very easy to find a description of the process and download the program via Google.

Of course, you must have a disk with the operating system itself. If you downloaded an image of the installation disk on the Internet, burn it to disk.

*Installing Windows XP

Windows XP disc load it into the drive (disk drive). Now we need to set in BIOS loading from this disk.

To do this, we restart the computer and at the very beginning of booting, we begin to press the DEL key (for laptops, the F2 key) over and over again until we get into the BIOS. Then we will need to find the tab responsible for setting the download priority.

IN different versions BIOS This tab may be called differently. One of the common options is this: Find the “Boot” tab at the top (move using the arrows on the keyboard), go to it (press Enter) and use the arrows or +/- keys to move to the top position - “CD/DVD Drivers” (now it’s “ Hard Disk Drivers"). For more information about this, watch the video at the end of the article.

Another BIOS option: find the “Advanced Bios Features” tab and go to it (Enter)

Next, we are interested in the parameter, which tells the system what it should boot from first. By default, this line is “Hard Disk” (or HDD). Again, use the arrows to highlight it, press Enter, select “CDROM” from the list that appears (we instruct the system to use the CD drive to boot), press “Enter,” press F10 (save changes) and “Enter” again.

In different BIOS versions, the names of tabs and parameters may differ slightly (for example, instead of a CDROM there may be a DVD, etc.), but the meaning of the actions is now clear to you and you can always figure it out. You can go into the BIOS first to familiarize yourself before reinstalling the system and find all the necessary parameters so that you don’t have to look for anything later.

After pressing the last “Enter”, the system reboots and begins to boot from the disk with Windows XP, which we previously inserted into the drive. The following screen will indicate this:

Press any key, even space, and the installation begins.

The Windows XP setup program starts. We are offered a choice of one of three actions and the keys that correspond to them are indicated. Since we want to install Windows XP, we press “Enter” accordingly.

A license agreement appears, which usually no one reads. Press “F8” to continue (by the way, all the keys that you can use for actions are displayed in the tooltips that you see in front of you and at the very bottom).

In the next step, we are asked to select the hard drive partition in which to install operating system. Usually this is section C. Select it using the arrows on the keyboard and press “Enter”.

If you are installing Windows XP on new computer, then your hard drive is not yet divided into partitions and it’s time to create them. As written in the tips, to create a partition you need to press “C” on the keyboard and select the size of the future partition in megabytes.

Let’s say if you want to allocate 50 GB for the system partition, that’s 51200 megabytes. The section has been created. Press “C” again and create the next partition. At a minimum, it is enough to divide the hard drive into two partitions: partition C for the operating system and programs, with a capacity of 50 GB, and another partition for everything else (for all the remaining free space).

However, we cut as many sections as you require. After creating the partitions, select the one in which we will install Windows XP and press “Enter”.

In the next window we are asked to format this section. We choose exactly the option that is shown in the picture below and no other. Press “Enter”.

Most likely, no drivers will be needed, since in assemblies from the Internet, everything is often already included. After this, do not forget to reboot into the BIOS again and change the first boot device from CDROM back to HARD DISK (HDD).

To those who install licensed version, or assembly without automatic installation and activation, you will have to go through a few more steps. The first one is regional settings. Here you can configure the language and regional standards for your country. The default is “Russian”. Click “Next”.

Then there will be a window for entering a name and organization, you can enter any, it doesn’t matter. In the next window you will need to enter the key Windows activation XP. If there is a license, look on the OS box. Either buy it online or find it anywhere else. Enter the key - “Next”.

Then enter the computer name (any) and password (remember). Next, we customize the time and date. If a window appears asking you to configure network parameters, simply click “Next”. That's all. Windows is installed. Don't forget to reboot and change the first boot device in the BIOS to the HDD.

After starting the freshly installed operating system, go to the device manager: “My Computer” – “View system information” – “Hardware” – “Device Manager”.

We look at devices marked with yellow question marks as not having drivers. We install drivers on them. If it doesn’t work automatically, we search for drivers on the Internet by device name or code and update them manually.

By double-clicking on any device, we get a window with all the information about it. On the Driver tab, information about installed driver, on the “Information” tab you can find out the device code.

This completes the installation of Windows XP. If after installing the operating system and everything necessary software you make a copy of the system partition with Acronis, you will always have at hand an image of a fresh working operating system without bugs and everything else, which you can deploy at any time.

Video about Windows installation XP

You will also need drivers for devices installed in the computer (chipset, sound card, video card, webcam, etc.)

We write down the installation Windows disk XP

To record installation disk In Windows, we need a disk image, a disk burning program from the image, a CD burner, and the CD itself.

Download the Windows XP SP3 Professional disk image

Any disc burning program that supports burning from an iso image will do, for example Nero or DeepBurner, which can be downloaded for free.

So, we downloaded the disk image and installed the DeepBurner program. Now let's look at the disc burning process.

Insert a blank CD-R into the drive and launch DeepBurner. Once launched, DeepBurner prompts you to select the type of project to create.

Choose Burning an ISO Image and click Next.

I don’t know about you, but for me the project window opened in a compressed form. Therefore, you need to stretch it by grabbing the lower right corner with the mouse or expand it to the full screen so that it looks like in the figure below.

In the project window, click the button with three dots (Browse) and select the file of the downloaded iso image of the Windows XP installation disk. In our case this is the file ZverCDlego_9.2.3.iso.

Now you need to select the recording speed and press the button Burn ISO. In order for the disc to record better, the speed should be selected slightly less than the maximum. Now all you have to do is wait for the disc to burn. Once the Windows XP SP3 installation disc has been burned, the drive tray will eject itself. The disc is ready!

Windows XP(internal version - Windows NT 5.1) - operating system (OS) of the Windows NT family of Microsoft Corporation. It was released on October 25, 2001 and is an evolution of Windows 2000 Professional. The name XP comes from the English. eXPerience(experience).

Unlike the previous Windows 2000, which came in both server and client versions, Windows XP is a client-only system.

According to web analytics, from September 2003 to July 2011, Windows XP was the most used operating system for accessing the Internet in the world. As of February 2013, Windows XP was in second place after Windows 7 with a share of 19.1%. The maximum of this value was 76.1% and was reached in January 2007.

How to install Windows XP from a disk via BIOS

Now it's time to look at the process itself installing Windows XP on a computer from a disk.

First of all, you need to configure boot from the floppy drive in the BIOS. To do this you need to go to the BIOS menu. How to do this may vary depending on the motherboard model. In most cases, this menu can be accessed by pressing the button Del(on some motherboard models you need to press the key F2) after turning on the computer (during the startup splash screen). It's better to press this key several times to be sure.

The BIOS menu differs depending on the manufacturer and version. There are two main types of BIOS: AMI and AWARD.

Below are screenshots of the AWARD BIOS. Need to go to the menu Advanced BIOS Features.

Here in the menu item First Boot Device press Enter and select CD-ROM

After that, press the Esc key to exit to the previous menus, where select Save and Exit Setup. That's it, now the first device to boot your computer will be the DVD drive. You can move on to the process installing Windows XP from disk.

Now let's look at how to install disk boot in AMI BIOS

Select a tab Boot, and in it we go to the menu Boot Device Priority

Set the first boot device (1st Boot Device) to a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM (your drive model)

In some BIOS versions, the first device is selected after pressing the Enter key on the desired item and selecting a device; in others, devices are moved up and down using the F5 and F6 or + and - keys

After this, you need to exit to the main menu using the Esc key and go to the tab Exit. Select an item Exit and Save Changes to save changes and exit.

Now let's look at the process itself installing Windows XP from disk to computer.

Insert the installation disc into the drive and restart the computer. The disc menu below appears.

Once the files are copied, the computer will restart.

When you boot your computer, it will start again from the boot CD. In the disk menu, select the item

A window will open for selecting driver packages for unpacking and installation. These are built-in drivers for many devices included in this build. If you install Windows XP from a Microsoft distribution, this window will not appear.

Select the required driver packages by checking the boxes and click OK. If you don't know exactly what drivers needed, and which ones are not, select all. If you have disks with drivers for all devices (motherboard, video card, etc.), then uncheck all the boxes to speed up the OS installation process. In this case, you will need to install the drivers manually from the disks after Windows installation is complete. Read more here: How to install Windows drivers XP.

After clicking OK, the unpacking of driver packages will begin, and when it is finished, Windows installation will continue.

Next, the Regional and Language selection window will appear. If the distribution kit is the Russian version of Windows XP, then nothing needs to be changed here.

In the next window you need to enter your product key and click Next.

A window will appear in which you need to enter the computer name and administrator password. You don't have to change anything in this window. Then the administrator password will not be set.

In the time and date settings window, set the correct date and time, as well as the time zone.

In the OS network parameters window, select Regular Options and click Next.

In the workgroup window, write the name of the workgroup or domain in which the computer participates. If you don't have a home or office network, you can leave everything unchanged and click Next.

After this, Windows installation will continue, after which the computer will automatically restart.

We go into the BIOS and set the first boot from hard drive, as described at the beginning of the article. We exit the BIOS and save the changes.

Now before that how to completely install Windows XP on a computer last minutes left.

When loading, the system will prompt you to automatically adjust the screen resolution. Click OK.

In the Windows XP welcome window, click Next.

A window will appear asking you to select a Windows update mode.

In the final window, click Ready.

That's it! Now you know how to install Windows XP from an installation disk on your computer.

All that remains is to install drivers and programs, but this is beyond the scope of this article.

How to make a reliable boot disk for Windows XP

Another very pressing question is how to properly make a boot or installation disk with the system Windows versions XP, let's figure it out. Despite the fact that Windows XP is already obsolete, it is quite suitable for weak computers and laptops.

Windows XP is not much different in terms of functions needed by a home user from, for example, the new Windows 7, 8, 10 (). This suggests that Windows XP is a completely normal and modern operating system that supports almost all the same functions as, for example, Windows 7.

Introduction

It’s just that with the release of the new Windows 7, it is necessary to somehow “relocate” users from the already familiar Windows XP, and this is done by stopping its technical support.

And it so happens that with windows time XP on a computer or laptop begins to work slowly, generate errors, or simply some viruses have crippled its work. As a result, you have to reinstall it or install it on a weak computer or laptop.

This is not very difficult to do, but you need a Windows XP boot disk, from which it will be reinstalled; we will discuss this issue below.

And so first the list of what we need:

  • An image of Windows XP (what is a Windows XP image - an image is a virtual copy of it, how to make a disk image), that is, at first Windows was on the disk, then they made a virtual copy from it to the computer, and they didn’t just copy it, but made an image, an image is made special programs. And then from this virtual image you can even just burn it to disk, you can make a boot disk out of it, whereby the image is made of absolutely any disk, for example with a game, you need an image of a game disk, for example, in order not to insert the disk into the drive if the game requires it at startup.)
  • blank cd or dvd
  • program for creating boot disk(this article will use such an interesting and convenient program for working with discs like UltraISO)

And so we will continue how to properly make a high-quality boot disk with Windows XP.

Let's start with the Windows XP image, where can we get it?

You can ask your friends, or you can download it on the Internet. I won’t provide download links, just type in any search engine “download windows XP image”, and I recommend downloading from the largest torrent tracker using the µTorrent program (read this article for how to download files from torrent trackers using it), There are guaranteed to be no viruses and the image will be fully functional.

Well, I think you also prepared a blank disk.

Now about the UltraISO program

Follow this link, you will see a list in front of you, find “Russian” and click on the green arrow on this line, a window will appear with the option to choose where on your computer to download this program, you can select to the desktop, although if it is Mozilla FireFox, then the file will be downloaded to the standard download folder on the C drive:

After you have downloaded the UltraISO program to your computer, you need to install it. Find the downloaded file and run it and click “Next”. In the window that appears, put “I accept the terms of the agreement” and click “Next”:

Now in this window the installation program offers to change the location where the program will be installed; you don’t have to change anything; the standard installation path suits us perfectly:

Create a boot disk

When you first launch the program, you will be asked to enter a key or buy it; we will take another option - this is a trial period. This period is enough for us to make a Windows XP boot disk:

Now, since everything is prepared, we proceed directly to creating a Windows XP boot disk. Open the UltraIso program, then the file, then open it. In the window that appears, find the Windows XP image to burn to disk:

In the window that appears, we make the following settings: in the drive field - you need to make sure that it is your DVD-RW, and not something else, well, in general, it is usually automatically installed, but we still check that it is DVD-RW... instead dots the name of your drive.

In the “Write speed” field we set the minimum speed, this is necessary for better recording of the image to disk and finally click “Record”:

In general, that's it, after recording is complete, a high-quality installation disk with the Windows xp operating system will be ready, from which you can reinstall it, just like on fast computer, and on a laptop.

As everyone knows, to work with a computer we need an operating system, which over time becomes unusable due to viruses, junk and other factors. Many people think that it is better to turn to a professional for reinstallation, but I suggest you step by step instructions installing Windows XP. After studying it, you will have no doubt that you can install Windows XP yourself.

Why do you have to reinstall Windows?
According to statistics, even having good protection computer from viruses and careful handling, you still have to reinstall Windows xp every three years. The “garbage” that accumulates in the system is sometimes leftovers from the removal of programs and games that contain settings, configuration files, and others. system files old application. Many programs make entries in the registry, and after deleting the entry remains “live” in the system. It also happens that the computer hangs and there is no way to “revive” it, and the conclusion suggests itself: you need to install new Windows xp.

Setting up your computer to boot from disk.
Usually, when you boot your computer, the motherboard splash screen appears for a moment, then checking in progress post and now we see the "Windows XP" greeting. To install, we do not need to launch Windows itself, but we need to launch a disk with our windows way xp. To do this you need to go to Bios. To enter Bios, you must press the DEL or F1 key when turning on the computer. (On laptops use F1, F2, F3, DEL, Ctrl+Alt+Esc. If more than one combination does not work, then you need to look on the official website for how to enter bios).

Most often there are only two types of bios:

1. Phoenix AwardBIOS.
If you have this particular version, then you need to do the following: enter the Advanced BIOS Features section, select First Boot Device and assign the value CD-ROM. Then press the F10 key (to save the settings and exit) and select Yes in the dialog box that appears.

2. American Megatrends BIOS.
In this version, the background will be gray and the sections will be written in a line at the top. First you need to enter the Boot section, then the Boot Device Priority subsection and in the 1st Boot Device item select your CD-ROM drive. And just like in Phoenix AwardBIOS, press the F10 key and confirm Yes.
This completes the computer setup.

Launch the windows installer.
The first step is to insert the Windows disk into the drive and restart the computer. On dark screen we will see the inscription “Press any key to boot from CD”, which means press any key to boot the disk, which is what we do. This message is displayed for no more than five seconds, so you need to immediately press any key. If you didn’t have time, you should restart the computer and press the key again.

On the monitor we will see that the Windows installation has started. There is no need to interfere unless you want to install a special RAID or SCSI driver. In this case, you need to press the F6 key.

Next we will be asked:
1. Start installing windows xp (Enter key)
2. Restore Windows (R key)
3. Exit the installer (F3 key)

We press Enter and the license agreement appears; to agree and continue the installation, press F8. Next, you need to select the hard drive partition on which the installation will be performed. If the disk is new and there is only an unallocated area on it, you need to create a partition (C key), specify the required size in it.

We will also be offered hard formatting disk is fast and normal. Formatting is best done normally with a file file. ntfs system. After all, the long-awaited installation of windows xp will finally begin; upon completion, the computer will reboot itself and a window will appear with the inscription “Press any key to boot from CD”, this time we are not pressing anything!

A window like this will appear in which you don’t need to change anything, but in the next one, be sure to enter the Name and Organization.

Despite its hopeless obsolescence, the operating room Windows system XP is still very popular among users due to its ease of use and fairly high stability. In some ratings, it is even ahead of the “seven”. Next up for consideration is the question of how to install Windows XP from a disk and make initial setup systems. It is believed that the installation of this particular modification should not cause any particular difficulties, but in reality it is necessary to pay attention to some important nuances, without understanding of which the installation of the system may be unsuccessful.

Create a Windows XP installation disk

At the first stage, we will assume that the user does not have the original installation disk. Booting Windows XP can be implemented in the form of an image from the official Microsoft website or from another (necessarily trusted) source.

In this case, you should immediately pay attention to the contents of the downloaded distribution. It is recommended to download only the one that initially contains the second and third service packs, so as not to have to install them manually later.

It is not difficult to record an image onto optical media. To do this, you can use many programs for working with images (for example, UltraISO or Nero Burning ROM). If you need to create a multiboot Windows XP disk, it is best to use a tiny utility called WindowsSetupFromUSB, but to write the distribution onto a flash drive.

BIOS Presets

So, we assume that the installation distribution is recorded. Now you need to make it so that you can boot from it. To do this you need to use the settings primary system BIOS I/O. Usually on desktop computers entry is made by pressing the Del key, but in different models Notebooks may use other keys (F1, F12) or combinations thereof.

To be recognized as bootable, you need to find a section with a name like Boot, Boot Priority, Boot Sequence and install it first in the list of boot devices by pressing the PgUp/PgDown key optical drive(CD/DVD-ROM).

Start installation

After completing all the preparatory steps, you can proceed to solving the problem of how to install Windows XP from a disk directly. After turning on the computer and starting from the removable device, a black screen will appear with a prompt asking you to press any key to boot from the disk. Keep in mind that you will only have five seconds to make a decision. Otherwise, it will boot from the next device (usually a hard drive), provided that it has a bootloader, an installed OS, or even a damaged OS.

Next, a screen will appear to preload the basic installation components and a line at the bottom prompting you to install additional SCSI and RAID drivers. In most cases this is not necessary, however, if there are several hard drives, combined into the same RAID array, the installation must be applied. But it will assume that the user has one hard drive.

Partition selection and formatting

At the next stage, a welcome screen will appear with options to choose from:

  • immediate installation of the system;
  • restoring a damaged system via the console;
  • refusal to install.

Select the first item by pressing the enter key. Next, we agree to the license agreement and press F8 to continue the installation (hints will appear at each installation stage).

After this, previously installed copies will be scanned, after which you will need to make a choice in favor of installation new system(Esc).

Now the most important thing begins with the question of how to install Windows XP from a disk. The first step is to decide on the system partition and its size. If installed on a new hard drive that did not have logical partitions, the unallocated area (full volume) will be shown.

It is undesirable to allocate all the space to the system partition (this can later play a cruel joke). It’s better to partition the disk right away by pressing the C key and specifying the required volume in MB (for the system you can allocate 40-60 GB, but not less than 20 GB). Please immediately note that for the normal functioning of Windows XP, about 10-15% of its size must always remain free in the system partition both after installing the OS and after installing user programs. After returning to the partition creation screen, you can begin formatting (but more on that later).

If the hard drive has already been broken and has an old system, the user will be shown all available partitions. If necessary, all partitions can be deleted (press D when selecting a partition). If the user is satisfied with the disk structure, simply select the desired partition in which the system was installed previously and proceed to formatting.

In the case of new hard drives, you can immediately choose quick formatting to NTFS. If the operation is applied to an existing partition, several options will be offered to choose from. It is best to perform a full format in NTFS. But to save data you can leave file system no changes. Most likely, you will next receive a warning that the Windows system directory already exists, with a suggestion to overwrite the current copy or select a new folder. Here - optional (all the same Windows folders XP old version, if one was previously present, will be saved).

Now all that remains is to wait until the files are copied, after which the reboot will occur and the system installation will begin in normal graphical mode.

Setting initial parameters

In the next steps in the question of how to install Windows XP from a disk, the user's actions are quite simple. When rebooting, be sure to remove the optical media from the drive, otherwise you will get the pre-start screen again.

After the installer starts, the language and region are selected (usually you don’t need to change anything if you have a Russian copy of the system), then, if required, enter the user name and organization name (optional), after which the product key is entered (without it, the installation will not continue ). Working keys, by and large, can be easily found on the Internet.

At the next stage, you need to enter the name of the computer and specify the administrator password (this can be done later). Next, the date and time are set (usually you don’t need to change anything), and finally a screen with a choice of settings may appear network card. Feel free to select “Regular settings” and indicate that the computer is not participating in the network (it is better to select the group and domain after installation is complete).

Completing the installation

Only now will the device drivers begin. Upon completion, several additional windows. For example, the system will ask for consent to set the optimal screen resolution. We must agree with this.

Then a welcome blue screen starts, in which most of the actions can be skipped (for example, deferring protection, checking the Internet connection and registering with Microsoft). Finally, all that remains is to enter the names of the accounts that will be registered in the system. You can enter only your data, after which a notification will appear informing you that the installation is complete.

Clicking the “Finish” button will cause the “Desktop” to appear with a familiar picture. At this point, the installation can be considered complete (if service packs were present in the distribution, they will be installed automatically, otherwise you need to install them yourself).

Typical errors when installing the system

Not often, of course, but you can meet Windows errors XP, moreover, precisely during the installation of the system. The most common occurrence is BSoD ( blue screen). Installation is impossible due to incorrect established mode for hard drive.

If a mismatch message appears BIOS firmware, ACPI mode must be disabled during installation.

It is possible that the disc itself is damaged or scratched. Just burn the distribution onto another medium and try installing the system again.

Initial setup of Windows XP

Initially, the system usually does not need any special settings. But to reduce the load on computer resources, it is advisable to disable some background services that are activated by default and start with the system.

In the Run console (Win + R) enter the configuration access command msconfig systems, go to the startup tab and disable everything that is there, leaving only the ctfmon process, which is responsible for displaying the language in the tray and changing keyboard layouts.

Required additional software

Then be sure to install security software, since there is practically no protection in the “expert” itself. Antiviruses for Window XP are quite diverse and do not cause installation problems. However, based on the fact that this version of the system is usually used on relatively low-power machines, you should not install heavy packages like software products Kaspersky Lab. It is better to limit yourself to some lightweight versions (Avira, Panda Cloud etc.).

However, if you look at antiviruses for Window XP from the point of view of providing maximum protection, you can use NOD32 or Smart Security from ESET. True, they will have to be activated monthly using special keys that are freely distributed on the Internet.

Finally, all that remains is to install an archiver, a set of codecs, a flash player for the browser, office suite and some other applications that the user may need while working.
