Operating Windows systems XP and 7, despite the cessation of official support from Microsoft, and a fairly powerful advertising campaign for about a dozen, continue to occupy leading positions in the operating system market. Their reliability has been tested over the years and proven by millions of satisfied users. However, even when using them, errors may occur that prevent full operation.

One of them is error 0x0000007b, as a result of which the so-called blue screen of death appears, the computer does not respond to your actions from the word “at all”. The only way out is to reboot, but even that doesn’t help in such cases. Most often, the problem occurs when reinstalling Windows XP or 7, and manifests itself when the system boots, although this can happen in other situations. It is noteworthy that the situation can repeat itself even on a new computer or laptop.

In this article, we will look at the reasons why error 0x0000007b occurs when installing Windows XP or Windows 7, as well as all the solutions. If you read everything and follow the instructions carefully, you will be able to fix everything without any problems.

In fact, there are quite a few reasons why a blue screen with error stop 0x0000007b occurs. Moreover, they all directly depend on what operation you are performing at that moment. The only thing they have in common is installing Windows XP and running that version or more new Windows 7. So, what could be causing the problem?

When starting the system:

  • Damage to important system files responsible for starting the system.
  • Viruses that can penetrate the system very deeply and affect the operation of the system.
  • Physical defect of the computer hard drive or errors in its operation.
  • A flash drive inserted into the USB connector.

This is what error 0x0000007B looks like

When installing the system:

  • Incorrect BIOS installation, which is why the crash occurs.
  • Incorrect operation of drivers used in the boot controller. If they are damaged, the controller simply cannot complete the procedure Windows installations until the end.
  • There is no support for the hard drive or SCSI controller installed operating system. May be on modern models of computers or laptops, since XP is already considered outdated.

Solutions

During system startup

Running the last working configuration

Because the failure can be temporary and random, Windows 7 and XP make it very easy to revert to the last working configuration. What does it mean? During operation, the system copies working files responsible for starting the system and its full operation to a special partition on the hard drive. Also, from time to time, an image of the operating state of the system is created, in which everything works as expected. Several such images are stored on the hard drive. Each time you start your computer, the system automatically selects the most recent one and over time, older settings are deleted. So if you get error 0x0000007b on startup, try opening the last working setup.

To do this, while starting the operating system, press the F8 button to exit to the boot menu. In order to launch this mode for sure, and not miss the moment, press the button several times. You will see a list of boot options: Safe Mode, Boot Logging, Debug Mode, and others. You need to select "Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced)". If everything goes well, Windows will begin loading normally. If this does not happen, this method will not help you, so try one of the following.

Select "Last Known Good Configuration (Advanced)"

Checking the disk for errors

The hard drive is not the most reliable component of your computer, especially if it is not solid state. It has moving mechanisms and consists of a magnetic surface and a read head. If you use a laptop and often work on it while on the go, perhaps even in transport, some sectors of the hard drive may be damaged. If the sector on which the system files necessary for Windows operation 7 or XP, startup will be impossible. To make sure whether your hard drive is operating with errors or some other reason is possible, you will need to use a proprietary hard drive check utility. But how to open it if Windows does not start?

Usually such a check is quite enough to restore functionality. If the disk is damaged so badly that standard remedy Windows cannot cope with the problem, try using specialized resuscitation software hard drives. If no problems were found, but error 0x0000007b persists, try the next method.

Virus check

Some malicious files so insidious and dangerous that they penetrate deep into the system Windows partition and damage system-critical components, resulting in error 0x0000007b. If the previous two methods did not help you, try checking for viruses by booting your computer into safe mode. Here step by step actions which you need to do for this:

When installing Windows XP

Incorrect BIOS settings

Most common cause The reason why error 0x0000007b may bother you when installing Windows XP is that the operating mode of the hard drive is incorrectly set. The fact is that all modern ones are connected via the SATA interface, which ensures reliability and high data transfer speed, and uses the modern ACHI standard, which allows you to use all the capabilities of SATA. Windows XP itself does not support this standard, since it did not yet exist in those days. Accordingly, because of this incompatibility, error 0x0000007b occurs when installing Windows XP and a blue screen appears.

To restore functionality, in the BIOS settings, set the default IDE mode, which will work in SATA compatibility mode. Where is this settings item located? How to set the required parameter?

  1. Turn on your computer and go to BIOS. Depends on the laptop or motherboard manufacturer system unit, the keys or combinations thereof that must be pressed to enter the BIOS may differ. Most often this is F2, Del, Esc.
  2. Depending on the type of BIOS used, the menu layout may differ slightly. Here's what you might need to click:
    • Main menu - Advanced - OnChip SATA Type - Native IDE - F10 to save settings.
    • Main menu - Advanced - IDE Configuration - Compatible - F10 to save settings.
    • Main menu - Main - SATA Mode - IDE Mode - F10 to save settings.
    • After activating the mode, repeat the installation of Windows XP.

No controller driver

Windows XP is known for its builds from various programmers, who either cut out some components to make the image easier and allow it to work even on old and very weak systems, or integrate additional software. When using trimmed assemblies, you can very often encounter the fact that they do not contain the necessary controller driver, which causes the XP installation to be interrupted and a blue screen to appear with an error.

The only correct solution would be to download another operating system image with a built-in driver. To do this, you can look for another assembly on torrent trackers and carefully read the description.

Conclusion

Now you know how to deal with error 0x0000007b during installation or Windows startup 7 or Windows XP. We have described the most common causes of its occurrence, as well as the most effective methods for solving it. If nothing helps anyway, the blue screen continues to pop up, then you should think about buying a new computer or laptop, or simply completely reinstall the system, download a clean and original image. In the comments, please indicate whether you managed to get rid of the problem using our recommendations.

    Bsod: Stop 0x0000007B – began to appear on one computer very often, even after Windows reinstallation from scratch, most likely one can suspect that the reasons may be as follows:

    1)Due to downloading content, where it is especially hot beautiful button big download, as a rule, this is also not a fact, everything is disguised beautifully as viruses, viruses or remote control in the form of BackDoor - it can damage the boot sectors of the HDD/SSD. In Manual mode, semi-automatic or even automatic without human intervention using a script. By the way, Windows 7 x64 SP1 is suffering this time - this is not some kind of Windows 10, it would be the same if there was the same error. After all, with Windows 7 there were not the desired modifications, but rather too many processes and other services. Typically this system is for consoles and mobile devices was created, but for the computer. The only thing they seem to fall for is some kind of DirectX 12, which essentially does not support most games, even for the sake of them there is no point in doing this, a normal company will definitely make a choice in DirectX Versions launching games, such as Resident Evil 5 - launching from DirectX 9 and from DirectX 10, 11 was even for VR. And not to be forced to use strictly only DirectX This version, many years ago there was a choice for not many games, even by the way S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - and even then it was possible to change DirectX to version 11, this is Call of Pripyat - they say it has been improved to this day.

    2) Incompatible software with video card, audio driver, especially Realtek AC 97 - for example, can be downloaded old version, or was not downloaded from the official website, this only happened on Windows XP SP2/3 - as far as I remember, many years ago.

    3) Partially compatible driver on a video card, it even happens, but very rarely, 1k100, that at first everything will work fine. But the driver for the video card either has the latest version for older card models only, which means it is incompatible with Windows system kernels and can even cause BSod. I also know from experience that most often ATI Radeon non-HD versions - they suffer even worse from the latest driver versions, so they recommend Catalyst - do not install latest version. And in HD series - if the driver is installed, the image shows, but then after a few weeks it happens reboot Windows- then this means either the video card itself is already defective, the microcircuits do not produce data output properly, or the microcircuits cannot fully process what they should, processing is not happening. Most often it leads to the image not being shown at all, but very rarely to Bsod 0x0000007B.

    The most important. Default licensed Windows versions XP/Vista/7/ - the option is disabled - automatically reboot the computer when the system fails, that is, BSod will not be shown, but will constantly reboot, and you may not see the blue screen at all, because it must be turned on after installing Windows for research symptoms of a technical error, you can find the reasons by the error code. The main problem is that it is disabled, few people know about it, so the chosen few can receive fewer requests for Bsod errors– it’s all the fault of the creators of Windows – since when installing Windows there is no function – show an error code when the Windows system fails Yes/No. This is why the database is filled with Bsod - only the chosen ones, and they write errors based on experience, which only the chosen ones have. The chosen ones repair systems at least twice as expensive (in fact, they should, since they can correct these errors much better than a noob saibot / NOOB) NUB. Kettle and stuff.

    By the way, everything that is written here is 100% true, my personal experience.

Despite the fact that since the termination of the company Microsoft support Windows XP has been more than three years old, some users still do not want to part with this operating system. Well, this is understandable - some are still in service old computer, technical specifications who are not allowed to install a newer OS, some need a fast system, while others are simply used to XP, not wanting to change anything for themselves.

Windows is a fairly stable and reliable system that can work without reinstallation for up to several years, but sooner or later it begins to fail, including critical ones. An example of one such failure is the Stop 0x0000007b error, which occurs during the loading/installation of the operating system and is accompanied by the appearance of the traditional blue screen of death. Most often you have to deal with it Windows users XP, however, are not immune from it and owners of computers running Windows control 7.

The main reasons for the appearance of a blue screen with Stop error 0x0000007b

Error 0x0000007b, like a number of other similar ones, does not indicate a specific source of the problem, and the code itself may indicate various types of problems. In some cases it is accompanied by a message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, which immediately raises suspicions in the user of a malfunction hard drive. In fact, this error only means that the boot driver cannot initialize the boot device, that is, the hard drive.

The appearance of a blue screen with error 0x0000007b is often caused by a conflict of drivers of devices connected to the PC, incorrect BIOS settings, damage to system files or important registry keys, virus infection, the presence of bad sectors and errors on the disk file system, various hardware problems (most often related to the disk), problems with RAM, lack of support for the SCSI controller or hard drive installed by the operating system. We will not analyze all cases in detail; instead, we will pay attention to the most common ones.

What to do if an error occurs when installing Windows XP

The main and most likely cause of error 0x0000007b when installing Windows XP on a new PC is incompatible BIOS settings. The fact is that on new computers, the ACHI standard is used for drives connected to SATA, which was not yet used at the time of the release of Windows XP. You try to install the system, but it can't find a suitable driver and throws you into a BSOD. What to do? Try changing the operating mode of SATA drives from AHCI to IDE.

Go to the BIOS, in the Advanced section find the IDE Configuration setting, in it find the SATA Configuration parameter and set it to Compatible instead of Enhanced. In other BIOS versions, the indicated setting may be located in the Integrated Peripherals section and called OnChip SATA Type or SATA RAID/AHCI MODE. Its value needs to be set IDE or Native IDE.

If your BIOS has a Main section, look for SATA Mode in it and set it to IDE Mode.

Loading drivers during the XP installation process

The next way to resolve the error is to install the missing SCSI or ACHI drivers during the installation of Windows XP, but for this you must already have a floppy disk with drivers that match the configuration of your PC. At the very beginning of the XP installation you need to click F6 to install a special SCSI or RAID driver.

But since this method is hopelessly outdated, there may not be a utility for writing drivers on a disk with Windows XP, just like a floppy drive in your computer. Alternatively, you can use a USB Floppy Drive, but purchasing this device for the sake of installing an outdated system seems impractical.

Integrating SATA AHCI drivers into a Windows XP image

If you consider yourself an advanced user, you can integrate SATA AHCI drivers directly into the installation Windows image XP. For these purposes you will need a utility nLite, original drivers SATA with AHCI support for text mode(downloaded from your motherboard manufacturer’s website) and the Windows XP image itself.

The algorithm of actions is as follows. Unpack the driver archives and the XP ISO image into separate folders.

In the next window, click “Add” and specify the path to the folder with drivers.

Then activate the “Text mode driver” radio button, mark the drivers you need and click “OK”, after which boot image will be recreated.

If error 0x0000007b during system installation was due to driver incompatibility, it will not occur this time.

The method works, but why fool yourself if it is much easier to find on the Internet an image of Windows XP with already integrated AHCI drivers; fortunately, there are more than enough such assemblies created by enthusiasts!

How to fix error 0x0000007b when booting Windows 7

As is the case with XP, the cause of error 0x0000007b when booting Windows 7 may be incorrect BIOS settings. The system crash into BSOD with code 0x0000007b was often observed after the user enabled AHCI mode in the BIOS, especially in cases where an SSD drive was installed on the PC. No one argues that AHCI mode has its advantages, but in Windows 7 simply enabling it in the BIOS is not enough; before that, the system must be prepared. Therefore, we restore it in the BIOS previous settings, boot up, launch the registry editor with the regedit command and expand this branch:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/msahci

On the right side we find the parameter Start and change its value to 0.

We do the same with the Start parameter in the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/services/iaStorV.

After that, go to the BIOS and enable AHCI. This time the system should boot without error. The next time you reboot the system, the appropriate disk drivers will be installed. At the same time, we also recommend opening Device Manager and checking in the disk properties whether disk write caching is enabled.

Other causes of error 0x0000007b

The following reasons for error 0x0000007b, as well as ways to fix it, are equally applicable to both Windows 7 and Windows XP. If before this the system booted normally, but after updating or installing some driver during the next boot, Windows displayed error 0x0000007b, the reason is probably that the driver is not working properly. First, try booting into the last known known configuration by holding down the key right after turning on the PC. F8 and select the appropriate option.

You can also try booting into safe mode and uninstalling the installed software. If this does not help, you should roll back to a previous restore point if booting into Safe Mode is available. In Windows 7 everything is simpler; in this system you can roll back to control or full backup copy, booting from the installation disk with the distribution kit.

Disk errors

File system errors and bad sectors can also cause error 0x0000007b. This is where the built-in utility can come to the rescue. chkdsk. Boot the PC from the installation disk (the same XP) by clicking R enter the recovery environment and run the command chkdsk /r.

In Windows 7, the same command is used, but with the /f switch.

If the disk is old and there have been problems with it before, it is recommended that you first connect it to a work computer.

Viruses in the boot sector

It also wouldn't hurt to check the disk for infection with bootkits - viruses that infect the boot sector and MBR record. Naturally, such a check should be done using bootable rescue disks like Dr.Web Сureit. Another option is to remove the disk, connect it to a working PC and run the test from there.

Hardware problems

A blue screen with error 0x0000007b may well be caused by hardware problems. If the problem really is in the hardware, then first of all you need to check the hard drive. The cables (are they connected well) and the power supply are also subject to inspection. Be sure to test your RAM, as there have been cases where error 0x0000007b occurred when RAM modules were damaged.

As additional measures, we can recommend disconnecting all peripherals(eliminate a conflict between their drivers), recreate the main one boot entry MBR, update hard drive controller drivers, clear CMOS, and replace boot disk driver files atapi.sys, intelide.sys, pciide.sys, pciidex.sys from the directory System32/Drivers driver files from a working system of the same version. If you doubt the results of your own actions, it would be wiser to take your computer to a diagnostic center, where specialists will fix the problem.

As a rule, any computer problem that arises can be easily fixed. Appearing system messages can help us with this. By analyzing this set of letters and symbols, you can find out with high accuracy what the problem is.

Possible reasons

A blue screen that appears during the installation of Windows XP means quite serious problems.

There may be the following options:

Their decisions

What to do in such dire cases? Fortunately, anyone can solve this problem. Despite the wide variety of systemic conflicts, they are all resolved in approximately the same way.

You can do the following:

When installing windows xp blue screen 0x000000a5

Why does this error appear when installing the OS? It indicates a problem with the RAM.

Let's see what can be done:

  • if several modules are installed on your computer at once RAM, try pulling them out one by one and repeating the Windows installation process. Most often, this method helps, because it is rare that the planks fail at the same time;
  • if this does not help, you should change the RAM sticks;
  • If you have only one bar, you can try to bring it back to life. To do this, you should clean the contacts in the mother memory, and the RAM board itself, and also blow out the dust. Be careful not to damage the chips.

When starting the installation program, pay attention to all the inscriptions. If the ACPI BIOS ERROR message appears on the screen, then there is a problem with the system drivers.

You can solve it very simply:

  • start the installation from the beginning;
  • wait until Press F6 appears on the screen if you need to install third-party SCSI or RAID driver;
  • then press the F7 key;
  • As a result, the problem will be resolved.

Other errors

Another equally common error is 0x00000050. Most often it is detected when you try to install an OS on top of an existing one.

It may appear for the following reasons:

  • hardware problems or failure;
  • defects in the video card or RAM;
  • NTFS corruption;
  • problems with antivirus program(mainly Kaspersky).

What can you do in this case:

  • check all equipment. If any was inserted into motherboard, it should be tested first;
  • disable all system services one by one;
  • check hard drive using the Chkdsk utility.

In some cases, error 0x0000007B may appear. It usually appears when files are copied, that is, before selecting a partition. It is a Sata interface conflict. To fix it, you should replace AHCI with IDE.

This is done as follows:

  • go to BIOS;
  • find the SATA MODE item;
  • select the Main tab. Click on Enter;

  • set the IDE mode;
  • select the option save and exit.

That's all, as you can see, dealing with the so-called “blue screen of death” is not at all difficult. Even an ordinary user can cope with this. To avoid similar troubles in the future, try to regularly test all equipment. Special diagnostic programs will help you with this.

Blue screen death is familiar to every user of Windows operating systems. Some users experience it so often that they begin to think it is normal. But that's not true. Let's figure out what the blue screen of death is. This is an error that appears during startup or after the computer suddenly shuts down. It indicates that there are problems with the operating system or internal hardware. Only by understanding the causes of its occurrence can it be eliminated as effectively as possible.

If a blue screen of death appears on a computer with Windows 7, then we bring to your attention this article, it will definitely help you find and fix this problem.

Blue screen of death, its causes

The reasons for the appearance of a blue screen can be divided into two main groups:

  • System. Problems with the operating system: no necessary files, necessary for the correct operation of Windows, an incorrectly installed OS, infection with malicious software or a file, and so on.
  • Hardware. Problems with computer hardware: malfunction of the hard drive or video card, overheating of the processor, and so on.

In order to accurately determine the cause of the error, you need to carefully study the contents of the blue screen. After all, it is on it that all needed by the user information, namely: the reason for the error and even recommendations for eliminating it.

If the information indicated on the screen is not enough, then the computer can be configured specifically to diagnose the blue screen of death.

File corruption win32k sys causes a blue screen. Therefore, it is definitely worth checking and scanning other directories.

Diagnostics

Blue Windows screen or a memory dump - a reflection of the working (or not completely) state of the operating system during a certain period of time. Since immediately after a critical error appears, which may be followed by a sudden shutdown of the device, Windows displays all the necessary information on the famous blue screen, then for further diagnostics you just need to remember it: rewrite it or take a photo.

The main trouble is that the blue screen is shown for a strictly limited time. After which the reboot mechanism starts. Therefore, it may be difficult for an unprepared user who does not know where to look to have time to rewrite the necessary information.

To disable auto-reboot of the device, that is, when the computer or laptop immediately starts to reboot, immediately after the blue screen of death appears, you need to activate the recording of small memory dumps, that is, part of its important contents. To do this you need to do the following:

Now the blue screen of death when loading Windows 7 will not immediately disappear, so you will have time to rewrite the necessary information.

Error interpretation

Since any problem can cause a blue screen of death, to correct the error it is necessary to identify it.

Once you have managed to photograph the blue screen when loading Windows or write down the information that appears on it, you can begin to decipher the error that caused it to occur:

  • The first line in English politely notifies the system that a critical shutdown of Windows has occurred.
  • The following explains what exactly caused the problem. This could be the name of the file or driver of the video card, audio card, TCPIP.SYS, SPCMDCON.SYS, DXGKRNLl.SYS, NTKRNLPA.EXE, NETIO.SYS and so on. If this line is missing, then the cause of the error should be sought in the computer hardware.
  • A user-friendly error name, such as DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, indicates that an error occurred while installing the driver.
  • This is followed by a large body of text in which Windows suggests possible solution problems. For example, check that drivers are installed correctly, run the disk check service, perform a system restore, and so on.
  • After the word STOP, the technical error code is indicated for more accurate identification and elimination. It can be something like 0x1000007e, 0x00000116, and the like.
  • Below, the system may re-indicate the names of files or drivers, such as TCPIP.SYS, SPCMDCON.SYS, NTKRNLPA.EXE, NTOSKRNL.SYS, NETIO.SYS and the like, which could cause the blue screen.
  • Additionally, depending on the type of problem, Windows can display the RAM address where a critical error occurred. By analogy with the STOP code, it will probably have a format like Address 0x00000116.

Knowing this information, it becomes clear how to remove the blue screen of death.

Problems with a blue screen in 90% of cases are of the most trivial nature and appear among users who are poorly versed in computers, so they often neglect installing system updates, drivers, the correct procedure for uninstalling programs, and so on.

Damage to the acpi sys file can cause a blue screen, so to resolve the error you need to replace it with a working version.

Even if the screen says that the error was caused by files like tcpip, ntoskrnl, fltmgr, netio, ntkrnlpa, the first thing to do is:

It would be a good idea to defragment, check and clean the registry. This is best done using a special software. One such program is.

With its help, it is also possible to check the presence of all files and libraries necessary for stable operation of the operating system. If any of them are missing or damaged, the program will offer to download and replace them. If desired, you can make a copy of the original files and save them in any convenient location on your hard drive.

Screen of death when loading or installing Windows

If you don’t know how to remove the blue screen of death when installing Windows 7, then carefully read the following information. This error can only occur in three cases:

  • faulty x64 operating system image;
  • working image, but faulty hardware (error 0x00000116, IGDPMD64.SYS, fltmgr, ntoskrnl);
  • The BIOS was configured incorrectly.

If, when installing Windows XP, the blue screen repeats again and again, but you are sure that the computer hardware is in order, then the problem most likely lies in the faulty operating system image that you are using.

A blue screen when installing or restoring Windows may occur due to a faulty internal drive (HDD) or incorrect formatting. You should not neglect the standard procedure for checking the functionality of the OS image, disk or flash drive you are using. All this information can be found on the screen. You can fix other problems in the same way.

Missing or damaged system files

If you don’t know how to remove the blue screen of death that occurs due to missing or damaged system files or libraries such as TCPIP.SYS, SPCMDCON.SYS, IGDPMD64.SYS, fltmgr, DXGKRNLl.SYS, NTKRNLPA.EXE, NETIO.SYS or error 0x00000116 , then this method is for you. It is also suitable for errors caused by other files with the extension .SYS, .DLL, .EXE. To do this, you can use a special third-party shareware utility. One of the most popular is .

After installing the program, you need to launch it and start scanning using the Start button. Next, the utility will offer to check files like ntoskrnl, dxgkrnl, igdpmd64, fltmgr, tcpip, netio, ntkrnlpa. Additionally, the program will check other directories. If you are sure that it was the nvlddmkm sys file that caused the Windows 7 blue screen or any other file whose name you should know for sure, then you can check it.

Once the scan is complete, it will offer:

  • replace the file if it was indeed damaged;
  • proceed to check other system files if the specified file is not damaged;
  • only delete the faulty file if you want to replace it yourself;
  • do nothing, but open the folder with damaged file to independently solve the problem.

If you wish, you can install other applications for automatic search damaged system files and their replacement. Some of them identify and fix driver problems in a similar way.

Reset BIOS

If you recently made changes to the BIOS or tried to overclock the processor, then this may be causing the problem. Therefore, you should definitely try to return its settings to default. You can do this in several ways:

Conclusion

And this article discussed: what is the blue screen of death, its causes. The errors were deciphered, and various options for eliminating the breakdowns that had arisen were proposed. Now, if you get the Windows 7 screen of death again, then you already know what to do.

Video on the topic

The manifestation of this error is that a blue screen of death ( BSOD) unexpectedly appears when installing Windows XP, but it is not excluded the next time it is launched. Usually, after such an error, the PC reboots, and everything repeats again. This error is characterized by its code 0x0000007b, which is issued after the word STOP in the last line:

Let's try to figure out what this error means when installing Windows XP.

Reasons for the error

There are several reasons for a blue screen, and most of them are related to the operation of the PC disk subsystem. This includes:

  • Presence of viruses in the boot sector;
  • Problems associated with hard drive drivers disks;
  • Faults in the disk devices themselves.

Viruses in the boot sector

When installing the OS, this is the least likely cause of the blue screen of death with code 0x0000007b. The fact is that it can only occur if the user forgot to format the system partition before or during installation. Formatting system disk is mandatory requirement when installing any OS version. Moreover, getting rid of viruses in this way is much easier and more reliable than fighting them using anti-virus software, especially if there is no installed OS. To format the system partition during the OS installation process, you should reboot and start the installation, then you must, when prompted by the wizard to select a partition, specify the desired partition, delete it, then create a new partition in the unallocated area, and then format it.

Problems related to hard drive drivers

The blue screen of death with code 0x0000007b is a sign that the distribution does not contain the drivers necessary to service disk device controllers with the SATA interface. They are designed so that their “native” operating mode is AHCI mode. This is an advanced technology that has replaced IDE mode. But AHCI mode was introduced much later than the release of Windows XP, so many distributions of this OS simply do not have drivers that support AHCI mode. This is the reason for the blue screen of death with error 0x0000007b.

There are two ways to solve this problem:

  • Find (download on the Internet) a distribution kit that contains these drivers. The best option are assemblies from ZVER;
  • Change the operating mode of SATA devices from AHCI to IDE. In this case, the performance of the disk subsystem will decrease slightly, but the blue screen of death will no longer appear.

Replacing AHCI mode with IDE

To do this, you need to go into the BIOS, find the SATA Mode parameter in one of its sections (usually located in the Main menu) and change its value to IDE, as shown in the figure:

Then save the changes and exit the BIOS. The PC reboots and the Windows installation is repeated, but without this error.

Faults in the disk devices themselves

These malfunctions include:

  • unreliable contacts in connecting hard drive cables;
  • breaks in the loops themselves;
  • hard drive file system errors.

The best way to ensure that there are no such faults is to connecting hard disk to another computer with the same OS and perform a file system check on it using the chkdsk system utility. This utility not only checks the integrity of the disk file system, but also, if possible, eliminates some errors.

To run chkdsk utility, you need to click “Start” - “Run”. In the window that appears, type the command chkdsk disk /f, in which, instead of the disk parameter, you need to specify the letter of the disk being checked along with “:”, for example, chkdisk c: /f. After clicking OK, a view window will appear.
