Wandering around the Internet, you've probably come across curious files that you didn't know how to open or what to actually do with them. These are files that have the ending (extension) ISO. Simply it is an exact copy of a real disk. To start using it, you just need to create this image using a special program.

In this article, we'll look at the easiest way to open or extract content from the most popular disk image format - ISO.

Usually games are saved in this format. A disc or several discs with the game are inserted one by one into the drive, copied and packaged according to the archive principle in ISO format. Now let's take a look the simplest way extracting data from a disk image in ISO format.

To begin with download to your computer the necessary program for work with these file types. Open your Internet browser and enter the website link in the address bar http://www.daemon-tools.cc. After that Select “Downloads” from the menu at the top.

After the page has fully loaded, find a program on it called “DAEMON Tools Lite". Below, after the description of the program, left-click on green button with the inscription “Download”.

After this, a page will automatically open in your Internet browser where you can find a link to download the program itself Daemon Tools Lite. On this page you will see a table on English with the number of downloads, the file name, the date the program was posted on the site, a list of supported operating systems and an MD5 key, with which you can check the integrity of the program file if necessary. After the table on the right you will find a link to download the program with the inscription “Download».

Select the directory where you want to save the installation file and click the "Download" button.

After the download process is completed, open the folder in which you saved the installation file and double-click on it with the left mouse button.

The installation program dialog box will appear in front of you.

Click "Next" button after that click the "Agree" button in order to confirm your agreement with the rules for using this software, select " Free license» provided that you use this program for non-commercial purposes, and again click the "Next" button. After this, a window will appear in front of you with a choice of initial parameters for the Daemon Tools Lite program. If you do not want to install Yandex.Bar and make Yandex the default site in your browser, then uncheck the items “Install Yandex.Bar”, “Make Yandex home page" and "Set Yandex as default search."

It is better to leave the remaining settings as they were suggested by the installation program. Click the "Next" button. Select the program installation path and click "Install" button. After completing the installation process and creating virtual drives for emulating disk images click the "Done" button leaving while checking the “RunDaemonToolsLite" and "Send anonymous usage statistics."

After installation you will have to open the programDaemonTools, a shortcut to which you can find on your desktop. Your computer must have detected a new connected CD-Rom that is virtual in order to run ISO images. It is in this directory that all the information that is stored in the disk image will be displayed after you mount it. After launch, a small icon in the form of a small blue lightning bolt in a white circle will appear in the tray in the lower right corner of the screen.

In order to launch a virtual disk image in ISO format, you must right-click on this icon, hover over the “Virtual drives” item, then hover over the drive that the program created on your system, then select “Mount” image…".

After this, a dialog box will appear in front of you in which you will have to select the ISO file whose contents you want to view. In our example, this is a disk image with the Rules of the Road. Select the file and click the "Open" button.

After the message “Mounting disk...” disappears from the screen. you can view the contents of yourISOimages in that drive in the system, which the program assigned. In our example, this is drive F:\

In order to unmount a disk image, that is, remove the contents from the virtual drive, you must click on the program iconDaemonToolsright click, in the context menu select “Virtual drives”, further move the cursor to that drive, which the program created in the system, and select "Extract". This operation is the same as pressing the eject button on a real laser disc reader.

That's it. Good luck.

By the way, here’s how it’s created in !

Unpack the ISO image into a folder and work as with regular Windows files. Divide the archived file into several parts.

  1. In this article we will look at two examples using the Win Rar program. The program is paid, but it’s worth it; I think its analogue can be compared with 7Zip, which can be downloaded for free. To become the first option from this article, you can use 7Zip. You have come across a file extension such as Iso, you read on the Internet that it can be opened with virtual disk drive emulators. And also write such a file to a disc and work from it, launching what was in the ISO image. Programs that emulate cd dvd drives are: Alcohol 120%, Alcohol 75%, DaemonTools for recording to disc. But perhaps this approach to business does not suit you and you wanted to work with a program, for example, which is located in an Iso image as with simple file which can be launched by double-clicking the mouse. Let's print the ISO image into a regular folder, which will contain the files previously found in the ISO image. We installed WinRar and are analyzing the first option with unpacking the ISO image.
  2. By right-clicking on an ISO image? You can choose the action: 1.) view the contents of the "ISO" 2.) Unpack the "ISO" image into a folder with the same name as the image itself.
  3. 1.) the link option in the context menu takes us to a window for viewing the contents of the "ISO" image. Click the "Extract to" button, we go to the window for editing the path, extracting the image.
  4. The ability to write your own extraction path in 1.) the line 2.) Select the folder into which the image files will be extracted 3.) Confirm the actions with the “OK” button.
  5. The second option in the context menu is to extract files from an ISO image. In which we do not open additional settings and viewing the image, simply unpack it into the same folder in which the image file itself is located.
  6. File extraction process.
  7. In any choice in the options menu, we get a folder with files, in the same folder as the image, if you did not change the path yourself as described in the first option. Below is the result after extracting and unzipping the ISO image. The folder that contains the files that were in the image and the ISO image itself.
  8. Divide a file or folder into parts when creating an archive.
  9. The created archive in WINRAR can be divided into equal parts, at your choice. These parts can be sent separately by mail if the file size is large and the post office does not send larger files. You can also share important file into two parts and send first one file, and then the second when the transaction is completed. To securely store files, you can put several archives in different places and until they are all in one place in one folder, you or anyone else will not be able to open them, turning, say, without one archive into one file or folder, as was originally the case when several archives were created .
  10. Right-click on the desired file or folder and select the “Winrar” “add to archive” operation from the context menu.
  11. Next, the “Winrar” window will open to select further operations with our file. We need to select the size of the individual parts of the created archives. We have 5 options to choose from on the General tab, 5MB, 100MB, 700MB, 4095MB, 4481MB, the last option is auto. My file in this example weighs 3.37GB and I will divide it into 700MB parts. If you select the "AUTO" option, then the archiver will automatically create archives with equal weights. I select 700MB from the menu as in the picture below and click the “OK” button.
  12. In the example folder, after creating the archive, I see 5 files with the extension "rar" of 700 MB each and the last one 481 MB. Who knows why the latter is different, write in the comment?
  13. I gave you two options using WINRAR archiver. The methods I use myself, the first one especially helps. Since many programs are downloaded in an ISO image, launching a virtual disk drive is too expensive; a simple option of unpacking the image into a package is just what you need. Fast, without unnecessary actions, less resources spent computer device, in fact, there is only one saving in everything. If you have a question about other parameters of the WinRar archiver, then I advise you to download the Help file in which you will find full instructions from the manufacturer on the use of the archiver and its functions.
  14. Links mentioned in the article:

Hello dear readers. In today's article we will talk about ISO files, or rather, we will look at two ways to unpack them.

An ISO file is most often backup copy original media. We usually encounter files of this format when we download games from the Internet or operating systems.

There are a number of programs that can be used to open ISO files without first unpacking them. For example, using the 7-Zip archiver. With this paragraph I went a little ahead.

Unpacking ISO files

I don’t want to burden you with any complex programs to carry out this process. Therefore, as I mentioned above, to unpack an ISO file it is enough to have one of the archivers: Winrar or 7Zip.

So that you don’t have to surf the official websites of these programs, I will post them for download below:

Download Winrar archiver for free

Download free archiver 7Zip

Have you downloaded and installed? Now you just need to right-click on the ISO file required for unpacking and select “ Open with help yu" → " Winrar/7Zip».

I note that during Winrar installations you must check the ISO box. If you do not do this, you will not be able to open ISO files. Therefore, be careful. Although if you forgot to do this, then you can make a similar setting in the archiver settings.

Then do the usual unzipping process specifying the folders where to extract the files and folders.

As for other programs for working with unpacking ISO files, I would highlight such as IsoBuster, Daemon Tools, MagicISO, Ultra ISO, DeepBurner Free and many others. For home use, I recommend the free version of Daemon Tools called lite.

To extract an ISO file using Daemon Tools lite necessary:

2. The file will appear at the top of the program window. Right-click on it and select the command “ Mount».

3. A shortcut with a virtual drive will appear at the bottom of the window. We also right-click on it and select the command “ Open».

4. An explorer window will open with everything stored in the ISO file. Now you can easily copy any folder or file and extract it to your hard drive using regular copying.

This method is a little longer than if you use archive programs, but it also has a right to exist. That's all, I wish you good luck in extracting your ISO files.

Let's say you downloaded a movie, game or video from the Internet. Everything went well, the download process is completed and you, in anticipation of your upcoming vacation, try to open the file. But it does not open and, in addition, it does not have the usual .exe or video .avi format for games, but instead has an .iso extension, which is not clear how to open it.

So how to open iso files, which are otherwise called virtual disk images?

An .iso file is a digital image of an optical disk (either a copy of a real CD/DVD disk or an artificially created disk image).

Considering all the amount of software that currently exists on the Internet, it is quite difficult to choose a simple, convenient and most suitable program for your goals. A similar situation is observed with programs for launching and opening .iso files. We have selected five programs that, in our opinion, will be most suitable for solving the given problems. Let's look at how to open an iso file using each of these programs.

WinRAR

One of the most simple programs that open iso files is a well-known WinRAR archiver. Almost all versions of the Windows operating system include this program in standard set software. We will not describe all the properties of the archiver; we will consider only the property we need - opening files that are disk images.

Using the program is quite simple: right-click on the .iso file. It will open before you context menu, in which you need to find the "Extract" tab.

The file is automatically opened through WinRAR, which offers a choice of location to extract all content from the disk image. After this, all you have to do is wait until all the information contained in the .iso file is downloaded to the location you specified.

Daemon Tools

Regarding Daemon Tools, we have one - it describes in more detail how to work with this popular program.

Another program that allows you to open and read disk images. It is an emulator that creates virtual drives on a computer, through which virtual disk images with .iso resolution are opened. In other words, the program “tricks” the computer into recognizing the .iso file as a disc found in a CD/DVD drive.

We will not describe all the intricacies of working with Daemon Tools, we will only consider how to open an iso disk image using this utility:

As the name of the program suggests, it is specifically designed to work with files that are disk images. It's quite easy to work with. Let's look at the process of opening and playing an .iso file in several steps:

Alkohol 120%

Quite a popular and well-known program for opening iso images. It can be used to run or play the contents of .iso files. It’s worth noting right away that the program is more difficult to use for inexperienced users and to play files you need to perform an order of magnitude more actions than in previous programs. In addition, the program is paid, and for permanent use you need to buy a licensed version.

Let's look at how to use Alkohol 120% to open disk images:

Power ISO

Power ISO is a small and easy to use emulator program for playing disc images. It is an extended version of the Ultra ISO program, allowing you to play not only .iso files, but also other image files that have permissions .bin, .mdf, .mdl, .md2-5, etc. The principle of operation of the program is exactly the same as that of Ultra ISO, so we will not re-examine the steps required to open the desired file. We simply repeat the same steps and in the same order as in the Ultra ISO program.

Other programs for opening .iso files

In addition to the above programs, you can use others. As a rule, other programs are not so convenient for inexperienced users, or there is no Russian version of the program, or free version applies only for a certain time. However, if you do not have access to the Internet, but the software allows you to select several options for opening .iso files, you can use programs such as ISOBuster, Roxio Easy Media Studio, WinISO or Gilles Vollant WinImage.
