At the same time. Why is this happening? What should you pay attention to? What might it take to correct the situation? Understanding the issues posed is not as easy as it seems. After all, a computer is unpredictable equipment. Problems, especially when turned on, can be the result of many failures. Some go straight to service centers. It is not recommended to do this. It is advisable to first try to diagnose the problem yourself. Maybe it will work out without outside help cope with the situation.

Video card

The power light is on but the laptop won't turn on? The reasons for this phenomenon are different. The first thing you might think is a problem with the video card. In the case of a desktop computer, it is easy to detect and correct a breakdown or failure - just remove this component and connect it to another machine.

But in the case of laptops you will have to try. It is recommended that if you suspect a breakdown or malfunction of the video card, contact service centers for help. Or call someone system administrator. You can also try to diagnose the problem yourself. Usually the laptop turns on by itself - you can hear the cooler running. But there is no picture on the screen. Sometimes you can even hear loading operating system.

Screen fault

What's next? The power indicator is on, the laptop does not turn on, but can it be ruled out? It is likely that the device's monitor is broken or damaged. An extremely rare phenomenon that still occurs in practice.

If the display breaks, then most likely the “symptoms” of the breakdown will be exactly the same as in the case of the video card. There will be no image on the monitor, but the sound of the operating system turning on will appear.

Decide on your own this problem it won't work. If only by purchasing a new laptop. In such circumstances, you can contact service center. Maybe the display can be repaired. But usually devices do not work for long after such repairs. Ultimately, you will still have to replace the laptop with a new one.

"BIOS"

The following situation can be corrected without outside help. The power light is on but the laptop won't turn on? The main reasons for this phenomenon are either a failure or a reset.

It is likely that the BIOS settings have gone wrong. Because of this, the laptop encountered the problem under investigation. In this situation, it is recommended to completely reset the BIOS. After this, the computer should work at full capacity.

Lack of components

What else could be a consequence of this problem? If we are talking about a new laptop that has not worked before, you should not rule out the absence of any components. If the machine turns on by itself, but nothing is displayed on the screen, and the CapsLock and NumLock buttons do not go out, most likely the BIOS is not initializing.

It is likely that the laptop does not have a processor or RAM. Or, when it comes to a previously functioning device, the reason may lie in the breakdown of the listed components.

Hard drive

Sometimes it happens that although the power indicator is on, the laptop does not turn on, but it previously worked normally, the cause of the problem is hard drive. A small glitch and the computer will refuse to start. But the power button will light up. You can also notice the fan operating normally. The "Nam Lok" and other buttons light up and go out as expected.

It is recommended to disassemble the laptop and disconnect the hard drive. In this state, try again to turn on the device. Didn't help? Then you can carefully reattach the component. If the problem was a glitch, it will now disappear.

Battery

The power light is on but the laptop won't turn on? Diagnosing an incident requires certain knowledge from the user. Yes, you should not immediately send your computer for repair. But it should be taken into account that most problems are usually solved with the help of a professional.

You can resolve the situation yourself if, for example, the problem lies in the battery. It is likely that it was discharged. Then it is enough to connect the power (wire) to the network and to the machine. Next, try to turn on the device again. It's best to wait a few minutes before pressing the laptop's power button. Allow the battery to gain some charge. This technique turns out to be quite effective.

Some recommend removing the battery from the laptop completely and then connecting the power cord. Only then turn on the computer and monitor the situation. If the machine is working at full capacity, then nothing else needs to be done. Otherwise, you will have to look for the source of the problem elsewhere.

As practice shows, battery problems or a discharged laptop are common occurrences. Perhaps the safest and easily removable without outside help.

Closures

Samsung laptop won't turn on? The power indicator is on, is the cooler working? The next scenario is one of the rarest. And it is almost impossible to diagnose it yourself.

The problem under study can appear when the south or north bridge in the laptop is damaged. Why does this happen? Bridge problems are caused by different methods. For example, through a short circuit due to a temperature difference. If, say, the USB port on a laptop is damaged due to this, it is likely that the problem under study will occur.

There is only one method of struggle - repairing damaged components. The most effective way is to buy a new computer. After all, laptops rarely have refurbished components. for a long time then they work. Here, each user independently decides what to do.

Viruses

If the laptop does not turn on (the power indicator is on) after the device has been operating for some time, you should think about the impact of viruses on the machine. A computer infection often causes the computer to stop working normally. Sometimes the BIOS gets damaged by viruses. Accordingly, there will be a problem with turning on the laptop.

It is unlikely that you will be able to fix the problem yourself. As in most of the previously mentioned cases, it is better to take the computer to a service center. They will not only help you restore your laptop to working order, but will also treat it for viruses.

Fortunately, this scenario is quite rare. But it should not be excluded. Especially if the user himself admits the presence of viruses on the computer. Sometimes problems turning on a laptop arise after the operating system has been treated. Then it is enough to reinstall the BIOS first, then the OS. Afterwards, no problems will bother you anymore.

Instead of a conclusion

What conclusions can be drawn? It should be noted that in most cases, both diagnostics and troubleshooting come down to contacting a service center. Most often, this is what many people do. After all, a laptop is an extremely complex device. Repairing it yourself is not as easy as its stationary counterpart.

If you figure out why it didn’t work out, you can immediately contact specialized centers. If you suspect a specific problem, you must inform the service employees about it.

If your computer does not respond when you press the power button, this is a sign of serious problems with its software or hardware. Getting rid of software faults is quite easy - you do not need to disassemble the laptop case and check the condition of the internal components. But hardware problems can only be corrected by replacing or repairing broken components.

Why won't my laptop turn on?

Before you try to fix problems, it is advisable to first determine their cause. Problems can arise due to various factors, the most common are listed below:

    • the RAM board is broken or is not connected to motherboard;
    • critical battery discharge due to a broken power adapter;
    • failure of the battery connector or the battery itself;
    • system failures in BIOS settings;
    • failure of the video card, as well as one of the bridges of the system card;
    • cable disconnection or damage to the power connector.

Determine which option is suitable in your case, as they work for different problems different ways solutions. Next, follow the instructions.

The laptop does not turn on, the indicators do not light up

If nothing happens when you press the computer's power button, one of the batteries may be broken. Carry out diagnostics as described:

      • Make sure there is voltage at the line filter.
      • Connect the power adapter to the mains and see if the indicator lights up (not available on all models).
      • Check to see if the light on the laptop itself is on (usually located on the side of the computer case).
      • Disconnect the cable from the network, remove the battery from the compartment and, reconnecting the adapter, start the computer.

If, as a result, any of the indicators do not light up, the reason why the laptop screen does not turn on is in the power adapter or in the connection port charger to the computer. Check the cable for any kinks or damage, or make sure that the laptop will charge using a different cable.

If, after you remove the battery from the special compartment, the computer charges without interruption, the cause of the malfunction is in the battery. Perhaps it has simply served its purpose, then buy a new one.

The above describes exactly the actions that you can perform on your own at home. This does not require special tools or professional skills. However, the cause of the problem may be the failure of not only the adapter, but also the motherboard or power controller.

Why does my laptop turn off immediately after starting?

These are symptoms of a malfunction in the cooler system: due to overheating, the computer automatically shuts down. There may also be other hardware problems.

Clean the inside of your computer and replace any dried thermal paste. If you are afraid that you will do something wrong, contact the service center. If this does not help, then most likely the south bridge in the laptop is burned out. Then you cannot do without the help of a specialist.

The screen does not light up, although the laptop itself works

Perhaps you just accidentally pressed the keyboard button responsible for the screen backlight function. If pressing the key does not help, turn on the laptop and shine a flashlight on the monitor. If the image begins to be visible, the reason is a burnt-out backlight bulb.

What to do if the laptop does not turn on?

Diagnose the system by checking possible reasons malfunctions:

    • the north bridge of the motherboard has failed;
    • the matrix or cable connecting the monitor to the board is damaged;
    • the video card is broken;
    • BIOS firmware is damaged.

In this article we will talk about such an unpleasant symptom for any laptop as. Moreover, the light bulbs may light up and the cooler will even spin. But there will be no image on the screen.

Now you will learn what to do if you find yourself in a similar situation in order to try to bring the laptop back to life on your own at home.

Why does this happen?

There may be several reasons for this laptop behavior. Starting from the lost ones BIOS settings(UEFI) and failure of the matrix (matrix cable), and ending with serious problems with the motherboard (north, south bridges, video card).

Now you will learn what needs to be done step by step to diagnose and correct this problem.

Resetting the laptop and turning it on without battery

The first step in such a situation is to disconnect the laptop from the network and then remove the battery.

Removing the battery from the laptop

Now, without connecting it to the network and without inserting the battery, press the power button and hold it for about 30 seconds.

Laptop power button that needs to be held

After that, connect the laptop to the network without a battery and try turning it on.

Connecting an external monitor/TV

If after the above described result there is no result, then you need to try to display the image on an external monitor or TV to check the functionality of the matrix and its cable.

VGA output in a laptop for connecting an external monitor or TV

To do this you will need any monitor or TV, as well as a cable connecting desktop computer with a monitor. It's called VGA or HDMI.

HDMI output in a laptop for connecting an external monitor or TV

After connecting your monitor or TV to your laptop, try turning it on. If an image appears on the monitor, then you have a problem with the matrix or the matrix cable.

Connecting a laptop via an external monitor

Cleaning RAM contacts

This is usually easy to do. You need to turn off the power to the laptop, disconnect the battery and turn it upside down.

Removing the cover to install memory in a laptop

There should be a cover here, usually secured with a pair of bolts. It needs to be unscrewed and opened.

Something like this should appear before you.

RAM sticks in a laptop

Small rectangular boards are RAM. They all need to be removed by moving the metal holders to the sides.

Removing RAM in a laptop

After removing, wipe the contacts with a regular eraser or alcohol, and if there are several memory sticks, try inserting them one at a time, turning on the laptop each time.

The key is on the RAM stick. You need to wipe the contacts to the right and left completely

If all else fails

In this case, it is highly likely that the north/south bridge and/or video card have failed.

To temporarily solve the problem, some heat the released element with an industrial hair dryer. In this case, it is often possible to bring the laptop back to life, although not for long.

One fine morning (day, evening) you sat down at your laptop, pressed the power button and the laptop did not turn on? Don't be alarmed, we'll look at this problem now. Any computer malfunction, be it hardware problems or software failures, can be identified using the “from simple to complex” method. This is what we will do in the article.

You are required to follow all the steps and methods that are described here. While reading the article, follow the steps that you can do yourself without disassembling the laptop, and only then do the more difficult options that are described in this article. The reasons for a breakdown of this nature can be different: a broken power supply, a problem with cables, unstable operation of the video card, hardware problems, a burned out motherboard, etc. Let's imagine the most neglected option - the laptop does not react in any way to an attempt to turn it on, does not blink its lights and does not make sounds. There can be many reasons for this behavior, let's start by considering those that lie on the surface, after which we will go deeper with each step in search of the problem.

Note: if the indicators on the laptop light up or noise is heard, then we will talk about this breakdown below.

Important! If you still have a warranty on your laptop, now is the time to take advantage of it! Read the article to the end and if you cannot turn on the laptop, then you should not disassemble it, since the service center will tell you what the problem is for free and will decide whether they will do it for free or you will have to pay extra.

Electricity test

So, if your device does not turn on and you are wondering why the laptop does not turn on? Then the first thing you need to do is check if it is receiving enough power to turn on. Just as a car won’t start on a dead battery, a laptop won’t start if it doesn’t receive enough voltage. And the first thing to start with is to check if there is voltage in the outlet to which the laptop is connected. This can be done with a tester, if you have basic knowledge of working with electricity, or simply by plugging any other device into an outlet, or even a table lamp or any other object by which you can understand that there is electricity.

Attention! If you use a tee or, as it is nicely called, a surge protector, then the problem may be there. Sometimes, when there is a shock in the tee, the operation may be disrupted and therefore your laptop will not turn on. It is best if you plug the laptop into a power outlet without any adapters to check the functionality of the laptop.

Broken or torn cable

Having made sure that the socket is working, we move on to the “sickest” one. There are devices in the power supply of a mobile computer that are very easy to diagnose: the power supply and the battery. First, let's inspect the block visually. It often happens that our pets simply decided to “play” with the wire in the absence of the owner and damaged it. Or maybe the pets have nothing to do with it, and the wire has become unusable from regular careless handling. You need to inspect the power cord from end to end because it can break in different places. You may have a different power supply, we are looking at the most popular ones at the moment.

Here is the power supply (areas where you need to pay attention are marked in red):

If during inspection you find obvious damage to the wire (if you have a warranty on your laptop, then in any case this repair will be paid for), you can proceed in two different ways:

  1. The functionality of the cable can be restored with a little effort. To do this, you will need to strip the wire at the point of damage and re-solder it to eliminate the possibility of breakage. After this, it is necessary to isolate the place of soldering (one wire from another, and then the general “structure”). The easiest way to do this is with electrical tape. This method is practically free, but it will require a certain set of tools, which includes: a utility knife, electrical tape, solder, a soldering iron, as well as skills in working with the latter.
  2. Replace the unit wire with a new one or entrust the repair to a professional. It will definitely be more expensive than doing it yourself, but it is definitely more reliable if you are not an expert in these matters.

It is possible that you will not see breaks on the cable, but you must also take into account the fact of an internal breakdown in the cable. This means that if you do not see the breakdown visually, then there is a chance that it is hidden from your eyes. In case you decide to solder the wire yourself, I can suggest watching a video that talks about repairing a laptop power supply:

By the way, various power supplies for laptops are sold at bazaars, which are cheaper than in computer stores and users buy these devices due to savings. But I want to warn you a little. If the power supply is of homemade origin (and usually these are the ones sold at bazaars), then in the future this power supply must be handled very carefully, because the cables may be thin or made of poor materials. Therefore, if you buy such a power supply, then replacing it, as you understand, is just a stone's throw away. If you buy a power supply, then you should know that it is better to overpay a little for the device and buy it at a computer store.

Additional test of power supply and laptop

Let's assume that the visual inspection was unsuccessful and the wire is intact. Now we disconnect the power supply from the network and from the laptop and try to turn on the laptop. In this case, the power will come from the battery, which should be in the laptop at this moment. If everything works, the problem is in the power supply itself. It could fail and not provide the voltage necessary to operate the laptop. The solution to the problem is simple - you need to replace the power supply. Also, there is no need to clarify one nuance - perhaps the battery has already run out and the laptop will not turn on because of this. To do the next power supply test, you need to charge your battery, for example, from another working laptop and then connect the charged battery to your laptop, but the power supply must be disconnected from the laptop. Yes, and when you charge your battery in another laptop, then after charging, disconnect the power supply in the other laptop and leave your battery. If the laptop works, it means the battery is in working order and the question of its breakdown is closed for you.

Important: if you are using a universal power supply (you may have already changed the power supply) with a voltage switch, make sure that the regulator is set to the correct voltage (usually the laptop requires 19 V, but for example, in your case it may work at 15 V, it is better to familiarize yourself with documentation that comes with your laptop or call the service center to clarify this data). This is a very important point and should not be missed this check with your problem it would be stupid. If you have a universal power supply that does not fit your laptop, then you need to replace it with an original one, or find a universal one that will fit your laptop.

Note: very often the sockets in laptops break - where the power supply is connected. Therefore, check your nest for damage; you can move it a little to make sure that it is securely fastened. If you think that the socket is broken, then you will have to solder or change the socket. In some laptops this procedure is problematic, but at a service center I can do this operation for little money.

In addition, power supplies are often equipped with an indicator (diode) that lights up during operation. If this LED on the power supply does not light up, then the power supply is most likely faulty. During your diagnostic process, also pay attention to the indicator on the laptop itself (this indicator may not be on your laptop). The fact that the laptop “sees” your power supply can be signaled by this indicator (at the power connector or on the front side) or by the backlight of the power button.

Let's say the power supply turns out to be working. In this case, you need to check the battery: turn off the power supply and remove the battery (you need to turn the laptop over and you will see the latches that hold the battery in the case).

After the battery is removed, reconnect the power supply to the laptop and press the power button. If our laptop “comes to life”, we rejoice at the solution found and buy a new battery to replace the failed one.

What does the battery look like:

If the mobile PC is still standing lifelessly on the table, not reacting in any way to pressing the power button after the manipulations have been performed, you should pay attention to the button itself. It happens that during operation the button fails - contact is lost or the latches break. In this case, it is impossible to do without interfering with the internal world of the laptop.

Important: if you are not confident in your abilities to disassemble a laptop, it is better to entrust it to professionals - repairing the power button will clearly cost less than a new laptop if it fails.

However, for inquiring minds, I will describe the process for eliminating a possible malfunction:

  1. We remove the top cover of the laptop and get to the button cable, after which we carefully disconnect it.
  2. We check the contacts of the cable and button for cleanliness and integrity. They may be the culprit of your breakdown. If the culprit is the cable, then replace it with a new one.
  3. You can try to repair the cable. Cut a piece of the train down to where it is in good condition.
  4. To clean the cable insulation, it is better to use a blade or a very sharp knife.
  5. Place tape on the other side of the cable (where there are no contacts). Thus, the thickness of the cable will increase and it will be securely clamped in the slot (where the cable is connected).
  6. Now you must insert the cable into the desired slot (from where it was removed) and check its functionality.

Again, we hope for the best, but if repairing the button doesn’t help, don’t despair, there are still plenty of options for getting the laptop started working.

Connected devices prevent the laptop from turning on

Again, we return to methods that do not require disassembling the laptop. Inspect all mobile PC ports for connected devices. It may happen that one of the connected devices prevents our laptop from starting. To test this option, disconnect all connected devices and try turning on your laptop. You need to turn off absolutely everything - flash drives, mouse, etc. USB devices, which are currently connected to the laptop. In your case, only the power supply should be connected and that’s it!

If he “sang”, we rejoice, but we continue to identify the “pest”, connecting the devices back one by one. As soon as the laptop refuses to work, you can classify the last connected device as “enemies of the people” and limit your laptop’s “communication” with it.

The laptop makes sounds, the cooler is running and the laptop has a black screen

If, when you start the laptop, you hear the characteristic sounds of its operation, but do not see the usual picture on the screen, the problem may be hidden in the display or video card. To exclude the first option, you need to connect a regular monitor from a computer to the VGA or HDMI port of a laptop with a known working monitor.

We are trying to turn on a laptop with a monitor connected to it. If the usual pictures appear on the monitor, congratulations, the problem has been found, it lies in the laptop display (or in the cable with which it is connected). If, when you turn on the laptop, a third-party monitor also shows a black screen, just like the laptop’s native screen, it’s probably a problem with the video card.

A laptop video card, like any other component, can fail for many reasons. It needs repair or replacement - competent specialists will decide; it is unlikely that you will be able to fix the problem yourself. It is recommended to send the laptop for service and wait for a professional opinion. However, before visiting the service, you can use one trick, which I will discuss later.

Discrete video card does not work

Most laptops now have such powerful hardware that they can handle heavy applications, often with complex graphics, without straining themselves. Therefore, mobile computers are equipped with discrete (separate) video cards. At the same time, there is also a built-in video card on board, which acts as the main “workforce” in less “rich” assemblies. So, if, in your opinion, a discrete video card has died, it’s not difficult to check. You need to get to the insides of your mobile PC and disable the video card, then see how the laptop behaves.

The specific location and procedure for disabling a discrete video card depends on the laptop model, and to do everything correctly, you will have to search for a query like “how to disable a laptop’s video card ", where instead You need to enter the brand and model of your mobile PC. For such a request, you can easily find not only step by step instructions, but also a video, and you will cope with the task without any problems.

RAM has failed

A mobile PC consists of many electronic components, each of which can suddenly fail, and the laptop simply will not turn on. Here's what's worth checking during the diagnostic process if you've already decided not to send your PC to service yet and climbed inside your faithful “friend.”

First of all, you need to make sure that the memory modules are working correctly. Depending on the laptop model, the RAM dies are placed differently. Usually at the bottom of the laptop there are inscriptions that can be used to understand in which area this or that component of the laptop is located.

As you can see, the arrow shows that you need to open the bolt:

After the bolt is unscrewed, you need to pull this part of the part towards you (in the picture above we see another arrow that shows in which direction the opening occurs):

In the picture I showed the latches that hold the RAM; you need to remove the dies using these latches:

They are diagnosed as follows: find the RAM among the insides of the laptop. If there are several dies, this simplifies the check; you just need to disconnect the RAM modules one at a time and try to turn on the laptop each time. Naturally, if the laptop “starts up” after disconnecting one of the dies, it is probably the one that is faulty and requires replacement.

If there is only one memory module, then to check its functionality you will need a spare module (you can search among your friends). We install another, obviously working, memory stick to replace yours and try to turn on the laptop. It worked - great, the problem was found. No, we continue our search.

By the way, do not forget to visually inspect the contacts when disconnecting certain devices in the bowels of the laptop. They should all be clean and undamaged, and fit tightly in place. The presence of oxides on the contacts is not allowed; this may cause the laptop to not work. If during the inspection you find an oxidized contact, clean it to normal condition and only then return the module to its place. When you remove the RAM, I recommend cleaning the contacts on the RAM using a regular pencil eraser, but not for pens! Perhaps the contact was weak and the laptop was malfunctioning. You can also blow out the RAM slots with a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner to remove fine dust.

Processor and its weaknesses

I’ll mention one more detail, the “heart” of our laptop – the processor. The laptop may refuse to turn on if there are any problems with the processor. And the first procedure with it, which any computer technician will tell you about, is replacing the thermal paste.

The processor is perhaps the main organ of any computer, its “brain”. IN different laptops A great variety of processors are used, but one feature remains unchanged: any processor needs high-quality cooling. That is why it is usually installed in close proximity to the radiator, so that it can remove the heat produced by the processor and dissipate it, thus cooling the “brain” of the laptop. And in order to achieve maximum heat transfer from the processor to the heatsink, a layer of thermal paste is applied between them - a substance with low heat capacity and high heat transfer rate. Over time, the quality characteristics of thermal paste decrease and it must be replaced with fresh one. Thermal paste can be purchased at any computer store or service center. And the most important thing is the price, it costs from 5-10 rubles, which is enough for 1 time.

IMPORTANT: the processor is a very fragile part that requires careful handling, so replacing thermal paste must be done carefully. Be careful and remember that our goal is to figure out why the laptop refused to work, and not to plunge it into an even deeper “coma” with our actions.

You should also read that thermal paste is applied to different places on the motherboard. When you take your laptop apart, you will see 1-3 objects that need thermal paste.

The laptop turns on, but the operating system does not load

This is the story: we press the power button on the laptop, it makes characteristic sounds, some lines run on the display, but in the end the loading stops, trying to tell us something on the screen. English(or reboots endlessly). There could be a lot of possibilities as to why the download does not continue as usual. Let's look at the most common of them:

  • The laptop was shut down incorrectly. Because of this, a failure occurred, and loading instead of the usual operating system gives an error. The first thing to try is to restart your laptop. Most likely, it will not respond to any keyboard buttons, so we simply hold down the power button for a few seconds until the laptop turns off, and then turn it on again. If the problem repeats, we carry out slightly more complex manipulations: turn off the laptop and remove the battery for ten minutes. While waiting, press the power button 3 times.

Disconnecting the power will allow the laptop to get rid of “negative memories”, and after that it can turn on as if nothing had happened. This method It really helps, and I recommend everyone to do this option.

  • An error has crept intoBIOS(system software, like an operating system at the very heart of a computer). It may be, for example, that the download has been installed from an incorrect source, or the download parameters have been changed. If you are not handy with the BIOS menu, try simply resetting it to factory settings. For ordinary users, the question arises: how to enter this BIOS? In fact, the procedure for entering the BIOS is simple and does not require fancy capabilities from you. By the way, on the site I already talked about how to enter the BIOS and how to set boot priorities in order to install Windows. Link to article. You don’t need to read the entire article (unless, of course, you want to try reinstalling Windows yourself, I recommend reading it), just read the section where I talk about logging in. In short, when you press the laptop's power button, you need to press one of the keys (each manufacturer has its own key): Delete, Esc, F1, F11 or F12.

Menu in different versions BIOS is different, so find the item with the word “defaults”, select it, and then confirm your choice by pressing the “Enter” button. A message will appear asking you “Should I download or not?” Of course you agree, press the “Y” key (“Yes”). The computer will reboot and try to start again.

Here is an example of what your BIOS might look like (you need to go to the “Exit” menu):

Or like this:

  • Some operating system files are damaged. There are plenty of options for solving this. For example, you can use standard means recovery. If a failure is detected in the OS, the system itself will offer you to restore the last successful configuration (perhaps the system crash was caused by installing software from an unreliable manufacturer). You can also try to run from the so-called LiveCD/LiveFlash. This is a disk/flash drive, respectively, formed in a special way and equipped with everything necessary to boot a PC: system recovery and error correction. This LiveCD is in the arsenal of every system administrator and computer service specialist. You can also try another method: press the power button on the laptop and immediately press F8, you will see a menu where you select the “Last Known Good Configuration” item - there are different Windows versions, but some people enter differently. I told you an example for Windows. And finally, you can reinstall the OS if you are sure that the problem is damaged files, but it is not possible to restore the previous working OS.
  • The OS boot disk is faulty. Hard drives sometimes they fail, and perhaps this moment has come right now. When the laptop boots, the BIOS sends a request to load the operating system to the hard drive, but it is silent. As a result, the OS does not load, and we see an error message or an endless reboot. Unlike the previous point, in this case reinstalling the OS may not help, it will simply be impossible to do. Only replacement will save you in this situation. hard drive, since in most cases they cannot be repaired. To make sure that the problem is with the HDD, you can also start with bootable flash drive or disk and check performance of hard disk. Most likely, it simply will not be detected by the scanning tools, or you will see a message about incorrect operation. The solution is to replace the hard drive. The site has a very detailed article on how to check any hard drive: “”.

In addition to the reasons listed above, there are others. When turned on, the laptop may stop loading or constantly go into reboot (reboot) due to a malfunction of the microcircuits or inconsistent contact of one of them. This is unpleasant, but not surprising - a mobile computer often lives in extreme conditions, and is not only subjected to vibrations and other physical impacts, but simply accumulates so much dust that at one point it may simply prevent it from starting, damaging something inside . This is why regular cleaning of the insides of the laptop from accumulated dust is so important. Dust accumulates inside, inhibits air circulation, interferes with cooling, and jeopardizes all electronic components of the PC.

Cleaning your laptop is easy. To do this, you need to open the lid and, armed with a vacuum cleaner or a large brush, or better yet, both, methodically clean out dust and dirt from the inside of the laptop. The main thing is to approach this issue with extreme caution so as not to damage the laptop components during the cleaning process. And remember: laptop cleaning should be included in the list of regular preventative maintenance and carried out at least once a year if you want your laptop to serve you for a long time.

If even after cleaning the loading situation has not changed, feel free to send the laptop to service to identify the problem. If the article was useful to you or you found your problem, you can leave a comment that will allow other users to pay attention to this when testing their laptop.

Is your laptop broken? Are you trying to turn it on, but all you see is a blank black screen? This is a very unpleasant situation, but even in such a situation you can try to restore its functionality or at least try to determine what exactly is faulty in the laptop.

Most often, the cause of the malfunction is, but sometimes more serious malfunctions occur, which we will also consider in this article. We will begin identifying the faulty component a little later, since we need to start with other steps.

Step 1: Determining your laptop model

The first place to start is to check the manufacturer and model of your laptop. For example, HP Pavilion dv6, Acer Aspire 5520, Asus EeePC, etc. Usually, there are corresponding inscriptions on the laptop case, on the packaging box (if you have one) or in the documents (warranty card, delivery note).

This information is necessary to more accurately determine the nature of the malfunction, since laptops from different manufacturers may have different external manifestations of the malfunction.

Step 2: Check the warranty

The second thing is to try to check the warranty of your laptop. At this stage, you will also need the serial number of your device (usually located on the laptop case (bottom) or under the battery).

In the photos below, you can find an example of what the serial number looks like on laptops from various manufacturers.

This information will help in determining the warranty status of your laptop, so as not to engage in “self-medication” if your laptop is still under warranty.

You can skip this step if you are sure that your laptop is out of warranty.

How to check the warranty on a laptop? If you don't know how to check the warranty of your laptop, you can use the model and serial number your laptop.

Step 3: Determining the problem

In order to determine which laptop component is faulty, there is a system of external error code indication. For this purpose, LED indicators (light bulbs) of power (battery charge), as well as button indicators are used Caps Lock and Num Lock of the laptop keyboard.

When you turn on the laptop, you need to pay attention to one (or more) indicators located on Caps buttons Lock or Num Lock. These indicators (“lights”) will flash periodically. The number of repeated beeps will indicate an error code.

Where are they located on my laptop? Caps indicators Lock and Num Lock? If you do not know where exactly these indicators are located in your laptop model, you can use the indication of your laptop model and our technical specialists will try to help you with this.

Using the information below, you can try to determine the problem with your laptop or its faulty component. Mostly, this system codes are suitable for HP laptops manufactured from 2011 to January 2015, but it is possible that some codes will also be suitable for most laptops from other manufacturers, for example, Asus, Acer, Sony, Samsung, etc.

  • CENTRAL PROCESSOR FAILURE
  • The central processing unit (CPU) is the main operating component of a computer. If the display indicates a malfunction central processor, then you need to contact the service center for help. You cannot solve this problem on your own. Since a malfunction in the operation of the central processor may be the result of some other, more serious malfunction. For example, incorrect laptop power modes.

  • BIOS ERROR
  • Quite a rare malfunction. May occur when the laptop BIOS is updated incorrectly.

Most modern laptops have BIOS protection and recovery mechanisms.

Therefore, if a BIOS operating error occurs, you may not even pay attention to the indication, because... If such an error is detected, the laptop will reboot and the recovery procedure will automatically start. When the recovery procedure is completed, the laptop will also reboot. The only thing you may notice is a longer (than usual) boot process, as well as a message on the screen that the BIOS has been restored after an error. If this error occurs periodically, you may need to update the BIOS

  • MEMORY MODULE FAILURE

If this type of error occurs, you can use the following recommendations to determine the faulty memory module:

    • Determine how many slots and memory modules are installed in your laptop. The number of slots can be from 1 to 4
    • Try removing each memory module (if there are several) from the slots one by one and installing it again
    • Try installing each memory module one by one (if there are several of them) into the slot numbered 1
It is possible that only one of the memory modules is faulty
    • Install another similar one (with the same technical characteristics) a memory module that is known to be good.
