Almost every program installed on a computer tries to put itself in startup. Therefore, there are more and more icons in the system tray (Tray - next to the clock), and the loading time operating system, every day, everything increases and increases!

In most cases, there is no need to automatically download programs. How to disable autoloading of the program and reduce the number of icons near the clock?

Removing programs from startup in Windows 7 is done like this.

Press the START button 1, then enter the word in the search line 2 msconfig and press the search button 3. Although, most likely, you will not need to press a button - the search will be performed automatically.

Rice. 2

Under the name msconfig, 1 program was found (Fig. 2). Click on the name msconfig.exe

Rice. 3

The System Configuration window will open (Figure 3). In this window, select the Startup tab (circled in red pencil).

Rice. 4

. Its general appearance is as in Fig. 4. The only programs you will have are those that are on your computer, and not the same as mine.

In the list of startup items, identify those programs that are blatantly loaded when Windows startup, place their icons next to the clock, and sometimes even open their dialog boxes when no one asked them to!

In my picture you see: programs that run in automatic mode. But this is the tip of the iceberg! Below is a list several times larger of programs whose autorun is disabled.

Your actions on this tab are to remove checkmarks from programs that are loaded without permission when Windows starts, and you don’t want that!

Of course, by name Startup item It can be difficult to determine which program this item belongs to. Then look at the folder of which program the Command leads to. If you cannot see the entire Command line, then use your mouse cursor to drag the separator element between the words Command and Location to the right. Then the whole line will open.

There is no need to disable autoloading antivirus programs and firewalls.

In addition, for example, I have a program Punto Switcher automatically switches between Russian and English keyboard layouts. When you work on the Internet, this program is simply irreplaceable. Naturally, you will get tired of launching it yourself every time. That's why best option- when it is in autoload.

But the programs Download Master, Adobe Reader and many others can be launched if necessary - why do they need to hang around in startup all the time.

After you remove the checkmarks from some programs, click the Apply and then OK buttons (Fig. 4). The following message appears.

Rice. 5

If you want to immediately admire the result of your actions, then click the Reboot button. And if you are not in a hurry, then click the Exit button without rebooting, and all the changes you have made will take effect after the next shutdown of the computer or reboot.

If the result is unexpected - somehow I accidentally turned off the system clock along with the language bar, don't worry! Just check the boxes again, reboot and everything will return to its place!

Removing programs from startup in Windows XP

In Windows XP, removing programs from startup is done like this. Click the Start button and open the main menu.

Rice. 6

In the main menu, click the Run button.

Rice. 7

The Launch Program window will open. In the Open field type: msconfig and click OK.

Rice. 8

The System Settings window will open in front of you. You will see 6 tabs in it. There are five tabs and you don't need to touch anything! Immediately click the cursor on the tab -. Its general appearance is as in Fig. 8. Only the programs you will have are the ones you installed, and not the same as mine.

In my picture you see: green checkmarks indicate programs that start automatically. But this is the tip of the iceberg! Below is a list several times larger of programs whose autorun is disabled.

Look through the list of programs and remove the green checkmark in front of the programs that you think are unnecessary.

After you select the startup items to disable, click the Apply and then OK buttons (Fig. 8). The following message will immediately appear.

Rice. 9

If you want to immediately admire the result of your actions, then click the Reboot button. And if you are not in a hurry, then click the Exit button without rebooting, but the changes you have made will still take effect after the next shutdown of the computer or reboot.

Disabling startup in Windows XP and Windows 7 is similar, so in order not to repeat yourself, you can see my tips under Figure 4.

Disabling programs in Windows 10 startup

It’s easier and faster to disable startup programs in Windows 10 via Task Manager.

To open the Task Manager, press the keys Ctrl+Shift+Esc and a window appears in front of us:

Disabling startup programs in Windows 10

In the Task Manager window, click the Startup tab. The tab displays a list of programs installed on your computer, where the Startup Status is indicated: enabled or disabled.

Click on the program for which you want to disable autoloading. The line will be highlighted in blue1. Click the Disable 2 button and this program will autorun during Windows boot won't work.

By the way, on button 2, instead of the Disable command, Enable will appear. That is, if you accidentally disabled the wrong program, you can correct the error and, by pressing the button again, enable autoloading of this program.

A number of other programs and services have this capability. This helps optimize work with important applications, such as those that must be active at all times.

Sometimes an excessive number of self-starting programs becomes a consequence long-term activation of the OS .

This happens because some applications add themselves to the startup list without the user's knowledge.

In this case, you should completely disable the unnecessary function. Let's look at several ways to remove programs from startup.

System startup folder

You can add almost anything to autorun executable file. The easiest way is to move it (or the shortcut) to the system startup folder.

IN Windows 7 it can be found in the Start menu, after clicking the All Programs button. Towards the end of the list there will be a Startup folder. Removing from it means canceling autorun.

This is the easiest way to disable autorun, but not the most effective. Many applications duplicate this function in other system sections.

If there is a startup mark on another system partition, simply deleting the program from their startup folder will not help.

In addition, removing applications from startup via the Start menu is only applicable for a specific active user.

Editing common to all users can be done in the system folder Programm Data, which is on drive C.

Once you open it, you will need to follow this path: Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Using System Configuration

A more reliable way to remove or add programs to startup is to configure the OS settings.

Using it is more likely to help disable the autorun of certain programs. Now let's learn more about how to open the system configuration window and change startup settings:

Important! This section may contain important system programs, without which the functioning of the computer will be unstable. Therefore, you need to carefully look at which services are enabled and which are disabled. If you are not completely sure of the functions of a particular service, it is better not to touch it.

In most cases, this is enough to eradicate an unwanted program from startup.

But the most cunning programs duplicate marks about their location in system registry. Next, everything is a little more detailed.

Cleaning the system registry

The system registry is an important part of the OS. You need to be very careful when deleting files there; one small deleted file can lead to disastrous consequences.

Therefore, you need to try to follow the instructions below as closely as possible:

Users who want to optimize system performance are interested in the question of how to disable autostart of programs in Windows 7. This step will significantly speed up the operation of the OS and increase its loading speed.

MSConfig

One way to disable autorun of Windows 7 programs is to use the MSConfig system utility:

  • Click on Windows icon on the taskbar to open the Start menu.
  • Enter msconfig in the search bar, then run the found application.

  • Click “Apply” and restart your computer.

Start

In the start menu there is a “Startup” folder. All applications placed in it are launched from Windows 7. To disable startup programs, right-click on each of them and select “Delete”.

Third party software

If you are not good with computers, you are better off using special programs. They allow you to quickly optimize system performance, including clearing the startup list. We suggest using the CCleaner application. This is a multifunctional software that will help clean the registry, remove temporary files, and unnecessary programs. To disable autorun of unnecessary applications:

  • Download CCleaner from the official developer website.
  • Install the program.
  • Launch CCleaner, then go to the Tools tab.

  • Here is a list of all applications that run on Windows.
  • Select the unnecessary ones and click the “Turn off” button.

This will help you quickly disable autorun of Windows 7 programs.

Application Settings

Almost every program has a settings section. There you can activate or deactivate autorun. Let's look at the example of the Telegram messenger:

  • Let's open the application.
  • In its menu, select “Settings”.

  • Among them there is the item “Start Telegram at system startup”. You need to uncheck it. Now Telegram will no longer turn on with Windows 7.

Conclusion

Now you know how to disable a program at startup in Windows 7. The easiest way is to use MSConfig or CCleaner for this, especially if you are not good with your PC.

In some cases, autoloading can be very useful function. You can configure it yourself and leave only the necessary programs in startup.

It is worth considering that with a large number of active programs in startup, the computer’s RAM is consumed in a larger volume, as a result of which the system startup can slow down significantly.

Why are programs added to startup?

We have already said above that installed utilities can independently add themselves to the startup registry.

If necessary, the user can independently place any the desired program to autorun so that when you turn on the computer, the system automatically launches a frequently used utility.

Why clean the startup registry?

First of all, this manipulation should be performed if the computer system begins to “slow down” and loads very slowly. This way you can free up significant volume RAM, the presence of which is an integral criterion for the quality operation of your computer.

Startup may also contain extremely important programs that contribute to the correct operation of the operating system. Therefore, you should be extremely careful when cleaning the registry.

Disabling startup in Windows 7

There are several answers to the question of how to disable startup programs in Windows 7. Each of them implies a separate removal method.

Method number 1. Uninstalling via the Start menu

Users who have been using this version of the operating system for quite some time have probably wondered, “What’s hidden in the Startup folder in the Start menu?”

More advanced users have long realized that using this folder you can disable autorun programs. To do this, open the Start menu, go to All Programs, then find the Startup folder and open it.

If there are no third-party programs in startup, when you open the folder, it will say “(empty).”

If third party programs are present in startup, you can remove any of them yourself. For this purpose necessary program right-click and select “Delete”, after which the item will go to the trash, from which it can be permanently deleted using the Shift+Delete key combination.

This method is the simplest, but in this case it is impossible to see all the programs that are in startup. Some of them are hiding.

If cleaning this folder does not help eliminate the unwanted automatic download programs when starting your computer, we recommend using one of the methods listed below.

Method number 2. Using MSConfig

This program is present by default in any version of the operating system. Windows systems. There are 2 ways to call it.

In the first case, open the Start menu and enter “msconfig” (without quotes) in the search bar. After the system detects it, double-click LMB to launch it.

In an alternative launch version, you need to run command line by pressing the Win+R hotkey combination. In the window that appears, enter the command “msconfig” (without quotes) and click the “OK” button.

After launching the utility, a window will open in which you can remove programs from the startup registry.

To do this, go to the “Startup” tab, and then uncheck the boxes of the applications that you want to disable. After disabling unnecessary programs, click the “Apply” and “OK” buttons.

Attention!

After this, you will be prompted to restart your computer, automatically sent by the system. It is not necessary to restart your computer, so in this case the choice is yours.

No installation required when using this method additional programs, since MSConfig is a standard pre-installed utility for all versions of the Windows operating system.

Nevertheless, this method will not allow you to remove absolutely all programs and applications from autorun, so we advise you to consider the methods given below.

Method No. 3. Manual removal from the registry

You can also launch the registry in two ways - through searching the Start menu or the command line.

In this case, you need to enter the command “regedit” (without quotes). After launch, the main registry window will open in front of you.

On the left side of the window there are two autorun partition folders - local and personal. For the first one the address is used:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And for the second:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To clean the registry of unnecessary applications, we need to get to the final folder (“Run”), going through the “tree” of folders as indicated in the address.

To remove applications from autorun, right-click on its name, and then context menu select the “Delete” item.

Cleaning is required in both sections.

Method number 4. Use of third party programs

In this case, we will use the program, which is freely available to all users on the official website. The utility is easy to use, takes up a small amount of memory on your hard drive, but at the same time it is the best solution to clean autostart.

On the developer's website the program is provided only on English. We will tell you how to use it correctly without knowing foreign languages.

The program is downloaded in a ZIP format archive, which can be unzipped using any archiver (7zip, WinRar, etc.).

After you unzip the downloaded file, you will be presented with four shortcuts in the window in front of you. To install the program, we need the autoruns.exe file, which must be run as administrator.

When you first launch the application, you will be required to accept the license agreement by clicking the “Agree” button.

After this, the program window will open. This means that the utility does not require installation on the computer system.

By default, when launched, the application window will open the “Everything” tab. It presents all, without exception, programs and applications included in autorun.

For the convenience of users, there are also tabs in which applications are divided into categories (Winlog, Driver, Explorer, etc.).

To disable autorun, you need to uncheck the box next to unnecessary application. If you select a line with a single left-click, then from the bottom of the window you can see information about the program that is in startup (version, size, path, etc.).

When you go to the “Logon” tab, you will see a list of programs that were previously disabled by other means.

Attention!

The links provided lead to verified sources and do not carry with them malicious files and viruses. We under no circumstances recommend downloading programs from dubious resources, as you can cause irreparable harm to your computer system.

Disabling in Windows 8/8.1

In this version of the OS, there are also several ways to disable startup programs.

It is worth considering that in Windows 8/8.1 startups may contain elements responsible for the operation of the operating system, so you should disable them with extreme caution.

Attention!

If you do not know what an application is responsible for, it is not recommended to disable it yourself, as you may disrupt the correct operation of the operating system.

Method number 1. System partition

To go to the system partition, you first need to open the command line by pressing the Win+R hotkeys. In the window that opens, enter the command “shell:startup” (without quotes) and press the “OK” key.

The window that opens will display startup data for the current user.

To view startup registry data for all users, enter the command “shell:common startup” (without quotes) into the command line.

The window that opens will display startup applications for all users who have account on this computer.

To disable startup, delete folders of unnecessary applications.

Method number 2. Disable using task manager

In operating systems version 8 and higher, the task manager can be called not only in a standard way(Ctrl+Alt+Delete), but also by calling the context menu by right-clicking on the control panel, in which you need to select the item "Task Manager".

In the task manager window, go to the “Startup” tab.

This tab will display all applications that are in the startup registry. To disable automatic loading of programs, select the unnecessary program with RMB and select “Disable”.

Method No. 3. Disabling program autorun through the registry

The registry can also be opened using the command line, which is called by pressing the Win+R hotkeys.

In the Run window, enter the command "regedit"(without quotes) and click OK.

In the window that opens, you need to follow the specified path:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

then disable unnecessary applications and remove their components from the computer system.

Method number 4. Disabling using the scheduler

The scheduler also needs to be called via the command line. To do this, enter the command “taskschd.msc” in it, then press the Enter key or the “OK” button.

The scheduler specifies the launch time and date of each application.

Look at the programs that are running at startup and, if necessary, disable unnecessary ones, then simply close the scheduler window.

Startup Windows 10 programs

In order to understand the question of how to disable autorun of Windows 10 programs, you won’t have to look for an answer for long - in this case, absolutely all methods of disabling autorun of Windows 8/8.1 are suitable.

The only positive difference of this operating system is that in autorun, the elements responsible for the correct operation of the OS itself are stored only in the registry, so absolutely all programs can be deleted from the autorun list.

This solution will speed up the computer boot as much as possible and improve system performance.

Conclusion

When starting the operating system, the download speed is directly affected by the number of programs that have an autoload function (Skype, Viber, Torrent and others).

To reduce the consumption of system resources, you should determine which programs and applications you need immediately after starting your computer, and which you can launch later yourself.

This way you can significantly improve system performance.

This effect is achieved by freeing up RAM. Computers of schoolchildren, elderly people and insecure PC users are most often susceptible to overloading of the startup registry.

Please note that if you are not familiar with the applications responsible for the correct operation of the operating system, you must disable startup programs carefully so as not to harm the computer. Or you should contact specialists.

- This is the automatic launch of programs when you turn on the computer. Most often, this function is enabled independently when installing the program into the operating system. In some cases, autoloading can be a very useful feature. You can configure it yourself and leave only the necessary programs in startup. It is worth considering that with a large number of active programs in startup, the computer’s RAM is consumed in a larger volume, as a result of which the system startup can slow down significantly.
