When you first hear the name of this device, you might think that it belongs to flagship models. In fact, this is far from the case, and it can be classified as a typical budget model without any super performance indicators or new design solutions. But first things first.

Design

Externally, as expected, the model has nothing remarkable. Quite a typical rounded body with a slightly protruding camera on the rear panel, a speaker and an LED flash. The arrangement of mechanical buttons is also familiar to owners of Samsung phones. Everything is quite convenient and practical. In this regard, the company has always done well. Small dimensions also contribute to this.

The case material is smooth and quite pleasant to the touch. The silver edging of the case gives the design a certain high cost and a kind of elitism. Although it is still clear that the phone is a budget one.

Performance

What was unexpected was the fairly high performance of the smartphone for its class. The device is controlled by a quad-core processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz. There is also enough RAM – 1 GB. With such indicators, the device works really quickly and fully copes with all the tasks that are set for a smartphone modern users. Yes, it’s still a long way from flagships, but for the money the smartphone’s hardware is quite good.

Physical memory Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 8 gigabytes. It is enough to install programs, games, download music and videos. If this is not enough, the memory can be expanded using a memory card up to 64 gigabytes. At the same time, the speed of the phone does not decrease, as sometimes happens with some models.

You definitely need to talk about the battery capacity. This is the weak point of most Samsungs. Even expensive ones. But at Samsung Galaxy Core Prime capacity is 2000 mAh. And this is more than some expensive smartphones. Considering the small diagonal and screen resolution, the phone can work for two days without recharging under medium loads. For a flagship, such a capacity would not be enough, but for a budget employee it is optimal.

Functional

As already mentioned, the screen is neither large in size (4.5”) nor in screen resolution (800x480). But at the same time, working with the device is really pleasant. The dots are practically invisible, and the sensor responds to presses instantly.

The developers pleased customers with the presence of two cameras. Both are slightly above average. On the back panel we see a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, which under normal conditions is capable of producing quite high-quality images. In the front of the body there is a 2 megapixel front camera. The picture from it is sharp and rich enough so that you can communicate normally via video calling and take selfies. Note that many budget phones from other manufacturers either do not have a front camera at all, or for some reason they offer us 0.3 megapixels.

The sound from the external speaker is louder than average and quite clear. On maximum volume distortion can be heard on low frequencies, but they are not critical. The earpiece also leaves a good impression. Even at average volume, the interlocutor can be heard loudly and clearly. With Samsung Galaxy Core Prime, you won't miss a call and won't have to ask again what the other person said. Everything is fine with the sound.

Still, this one Samsung models There are many more pros than cons. Of course, I would like to see some innovations in design, but the classics have not yet lost their relevance. And the presence of two slots for SIM cards cannot but please buyers. Just remember that only micro-SIM cards are suitable here. We recommend purchasing for those who have a limited budget, but want to get a really powerful device.

Samsung does not want to leave the fight for the budget smartphone segment and, following last year's Galaxy Core 2, is releasing an updated and improved Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. What has improved? Firstly, the camera. A decent camera now shoots HD video and takes good pictures for 5 megapixels. Secondly, performance. The smartphone runs on a more recent chipset, with which the system interface works quite quickly, and the hardware even allows you to play most games. Thirdly, Samsung increased the amount of memory, both built-in and RAM, to 8 and 1 GB, respectively. By and large, there are no other changes. Among the advantages, we also note support for two SIM cards and very good time battery life for a capacity of 2000 mAh - up to 7 hours of watching HD video at maximum brightness!

However, the main drawback of the model remains the same - the display. This is not an IPS screen, it has a low resolution, no protective glass and no oleophobic coating. The smartphone doesn't even have a brightness sensor! The only advantage of the display is good viewing angles.

We can only recommend it for purchase if a clear display is not that important to you. By and large, a smartphone is worth its money, but for 9,000 rubles you can find models with better formal characteristics on the market. True, in fact it turns out that they have worse camera and battery or they are less reliable to use. And the range of functions and capabilities is poorer (from interface features to settings in the browser and multimedia).

Dimensions - 4.2

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone can be called compact among budget phones with the same diagonal. The weight of the phone is 130 g, dimensions are 131 × 68 × 9.1 mm, which is comparable to the LG L70, which was 5 grams lighter and slightly shorter (127 mm), or the Nokia Lumia 630, which has a thicker body and is heavier a few grams and only a couple of millimeters shorter and at same. If you're looking for ease of use with one hand, then the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime may well be for you - it fits comfortably in your hand thanks to its rounded corners and slightly sloping lid.

As you can see from the photo, there is a “classic” silver frame at the ends of the smartphone, thanks to which the side frames around the display look a little at the same, since the frame slightly envelops the front panel and rises slightly above it.

Externally, the smartphone is more similar to the Galaxy Grand Prime than to the previous Galaxy Core. In our opinion, it looks nice, but almost the same as many of the company's other smartphones. The back of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime we purchased is made of a semi-glossy, impractical material that easily picks up scratches and even small chips. As for the build quality in general, Samsung did not disappoint here - the smartphone is well assembled, the body does not creak when pressed, and the lid is easy to remove and closes tightly.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone can be purchased in black, white and gray colors.

Screen - 3.3

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses a 4.5-inch display, not IPS, without oleophobic coating or protective glass. As in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, it seems that they decided to save money on the display. The screen resolution is 800x480 pixels, the pixel density is low - 207 per inch, this is especially noticeable after working with clear displays. While working with the screen, we sometimes even wanted to wipe the display: it seemed that fine dirt had stuck to it, but no, it’s just individual pixels that catch your eye. The screen has average viewing angles and good brightness for a budget phone - up to 385 cd/m2. The minimum brightness, in our opinion, is too high for reading in the dark - about 24 cd/m2. In the sun, the display did not behave well - it is possible to read or view something, but it is not easy on the eyes.

The display collects fingerprints very easily, and it is better to wipe them off with special means. Glove mode is not supported. Unexpectedly, the savings even affected the light sensor - you don’t have to look for the auto-brightness function on your phone. As a result, the display does not leave positive emotions, and this is at a time when IPS matrices and even protective glass are no longer such a rarity for budget models, such as Asus Zenfone 4 or Explay Tornado.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5 MP main camera and a 2 MP front camera. The main camera has a flash and autofocus; the standard set only lacks an HDR mode. The maximum resolution for photos is 2592x1944 pixels, and for video recording - 1280x720 pixels. Recording speed is 30 frames per second, sound is recorded in mono mode. There's no autofocus tracking, so you'll have to tap the display to focus. In the camera's arsenal you can find many modes - from shooting panoramas to retouching and night shots, as well as many effects - sepia, negative and others.

As for the shooting quality, it is good for today’s “typical” resolution - in good lighting, as tests have shown, the frames are clear and saturated, autofocus usually works clearly. However, as is usually the case, the quality drops as the illumination deteriorates - for example, in the room the camera began to make a noticeable “noise”, and in some of our frames it “appeared” green. You can see this by looking at the photos below. Generally speaking, the camera is good for its price segment and resolution and can be suitable for side-by-side shots.

Photo from camera Samsung Galaxy Core Prime - 1.9

Working with text - 3.0

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime comes pre-installed with a convenient proprietary keyboard, with the ability to switch to a 3x4 format, like on the old ones push-button phones. Simple text input, in our opinion, is convenient. Gesture input (Swype) works well, and to switch between languages you need to lightly press the spacebar and drag to the side. There is no marking of additional characters, only quick dialing of numbers from the top row of keys. The keyboard is convenient for typing text, but sometimes the layout of additional characters may be missing.

Internet - 5.0

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses Google browser Chrome with tab synchronization with the desktop version and the standard “Browser”. The first one has a one-time auto-fitting of text to fit the screen size using double click, search on the page and a number of other typical features. The Browser has auto-fit text, a reading mode and quick control functions - when you swipe your finger from the edge of the display, control panel icons are revealed in a fan. In general, in our opinion, the browser is quite functional.

Interfaces

In terms of interfaces samsung smartphone Galaxy Core Prime didn't surprise us at all. He supports standard set interfaces, like any tablet or smartphone: Wi-Fi (b/g/n), with the ability to distribute the Internet to other devices, Bluetooth v4.0 with support for the A2DP profile, A-GPS with support for GLONASS and Beidou. You can’t count on 4G in a budget model, although an LTE version of the smartphone exists, but not for the Russian market.

The smartphone has a headset jack on the top edge and a Micro-USB 2.0 connector at the bottom without support for MHL (which is not surprising for a budget phone) and USB OTG. The phone has two slots for Micro SIM cards and one radio module; if you use one SIM card and simultaneously call the second, you will not be available.

Multimedia - 2.2

We ran various audio and video files on the smartphone to check which formats the built-in players supported and backed up the results using the AnTuTu Video Tester app. The multimedia capabilities of the smartphone turned out to be average, it played videos up to Full HD resolutions, however, it often did not play videos in MKV, MPG formats and did not even find AVI files. As for audio, in our tests the smartphone did not detect uncompressed FLAC audio, but there were no problems with WAV. The video player is simple but functional - it easily plays Full HD video, and also allows you to adjust the brightness and show external subtitles.

Battery - 2.9

It would seem that the display of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is quite bright when compared with budget phones, and the capacity is typical - 2000 mAh, which is sort of average. However, in terms of viewing time for HD video at maximum brightness, the smartphone outperforms most tested devices - almost 7 hours, longer than the iPhone 6 itself in our tests! But in audio player mode it slightly “failed” and was discharged in 43 hours - an average result. For example, Explay Tornado lasted 10 hours longer under the same scenario.

Because of charger with an output current of only 0.7 A, the Galaxy Core Prime takes a long time to charge, almost three hours. By the way, the charger is “non-separable” with a thin cable, although recently chargers have been consistently released together with a USB cable that can be pulled out of the charger - it seems convenient, but the thin “single” charging cable takes up less volume.

Performance - 1.7

The device uses the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) chipset - four cores, frequency up to 1.2 GHz, graphics platform - Adreno 306, RAM - standard 1 GB. In daily work, the smartphone hardly slows down, only slightly when scrolling through desktops. It is unlikely to be suitable as a gaming platform, but most games run, and heavy games run quite well at low settings. For example, Minion Rush, like on smartphones based on MediaTek MT6582M, took a long time to load in our tests, but practically did not slow down. Regarding benchmarks, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone on average obtained results only slightly higher than many quad-core budget phones on MediaTek (for example,

Memory - 3.5

Volume internal memory Samsung phone Galaxy Core Prime is 8 GB, of which about 5.47 GB is available to the user. There is a memory card slot; cards up to 64 GB are supported. It is possible to hot-swap the card.

Peculiarities

The smartphone works under Android control 4.4.4, with a proprietary, lightweight TouchWiz interface that generally works quickly. The smartphone doesn't have many features - it supports two micro-SIM cards, which will surprise no one, there are flash notifications for people with hearing problems. They decided not to fill the phone's memory with unnecessary software: in addition to standard things and Google services, there is only a radio (works with headphones), a store Google applications Apps and file manager- nothing superfluous, which is good for a small amount of built-in memory.

Competitors

For the winter of 2015, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime costs 8,990 rubles. A competitor can be any smartphone with a similar diagonal, a lower price and with the same characteristics, if not better. For example, let's compare it with Lenovo A328 and LG L Fino.

In terms of characteristics, Lenovo A328 is very similar to Samsung. Similar in power, but older filling, display Lenovo smartphone in fact it turned out to be even a little worse. As for the battery, with the same capacity it gives different results in different usage scenarios: when watching videos, Samsung turned out to be the leader; when listening to music, the A328 took the lead. To top it off, we can say that the Lenovo A328 has only 4 GB of internal memory, but today it costs almost 2,000 rubles less.

LG L Fino is 200 rubles more expensive and offers an 8 MP camera, IPS matrix and safety glass Gorilla Glass, similar battery life and original control buttons on the back of the device. But Samsung has more internal memory (8 GB versus 4 GB), a better front camera and a more recent and powerful chipset.
