Today we will look at:

When talking about passwords in , the topic of resetting them is often touched upon, since it is not uncommon for security combinations to be lost due to inattention or for other reasons, but it is necessary to log in to the system. For such cases, there are various ways to log in if the BIOS asks for a password when entering. Let's take a look at these methods and see how they should be applied.

Disabling the battery

If you own personal computer, then when the PC requires a password when entering the BIOS, you can reset it by simply disconnecting the battery.
Unscrewing and removing side cover system unit, pay attention to the motherboard, which has a small round part - this is the BIOS battery. It works even when the computer is turned off (it is precisely because of its “fault” that the date and time on the computer are not reset when it is turned off).

Pull out the battery by clicking on the special clip and wait 5-10 seconds. Important! All this must be done with the computer turned off.

When these few seconds have passed, insert the battery back, and then turn on the PC. You will see that the system no longer requires a password, but that everything BIOS settings were reset to the default ones.

On laptops this method also works very well. The only problem here may be difficult access to this very battery, since not all laptops have the back cover that can be easily removed.

Using a Master Password Generator

IN last topic we talked about services that can pick up a service password for your BIOS. You can familiarize yourself with that material. By entering the BIOS in this way, you can enter the password settings menu, after which you can set a new security combination or delete it altogether. How to open these settings in different versions We talked about BIOS in one of the previous topics.

There are cases when some skilled (or not so skilled) put bios password and then forget it.

It also happens if you bought a used laptop, but bios password, which is what you are trying to remove. In general, there are many examples, but there is only one question: how to remove or reset this password that prevents you from getting into bios

How to remove or remove BIOS password on a desktop PC

Solution: Remove (or use a jumper) the battery from motherboard. After that, wait 10-20 minutes and insert it back.
Solution description:
First of all, turn off the computer and unplug the plug from the socket (if there is a switch in the power supply, use it and do not remove the plug from the socket)
Now carefully, remove the side cover of the case using a screwdriver for the screws on the case =)

After this, we find the battery on the motherboard, usually it is located at the bottom, approximately here

Carefully, using a knife or thin scissors, press the lever and pull it out from the motherboard. It's better to take it out for 10-20 minutes. After de-energizing the bios, we successfully reset the BIOS settings to default, including removing the bios password.

After that, insert the battery back, plug into the outlet and turn on the computer
If it doesn’t help, then look on the motherboard (next to the battery) for a Clear CMOS jumper (switch). Other options are possible, such as CCMOS, CL_CMOS, Clear RTC, CRTC, CLRTC, CL_RTC. The jumper has two or three contacts. If it has two pins, to reset bios password, you need to close it for a couple of seconds. A screwdriver, for example.

Attention: The computer must be de-energized! This is very important! If the jumper has three contacts. Then you need to move it from position 1-2 to position 2-3 and the bios password, as well as the settings, will be successfully reset.

After that, go to bios and set the time and date.

How to remove bios password on laptop

To remove the bios password on a laptop, try using the service (unfortunately it doesn’t work yet). Go to the page, read which laptops have which passwords. After that, enter the wrong password three times in the bios. Enter the error it gives into the bios password generator wizard and click “Generate”. After that, reboot the laptop and enter the password given by the generator when entering the bios.

That's it! I hope you liked the article, and the password when logging into bios will no longer bother you! =)

A BIOS password is one of the ways to protect information on PCs and laptops from unwanted access by strangers.

Without a password, if one is set, you will not only not be able to change BIOS Setup settings, but also boot the operating system.

It will also not be possible to start the computer from external media.

Forgetting the password is like a disaster, because it will become impossible to use the machine. The only thing that will help you out in such a situation is to reset it, or rather, reset it to zero.

Resetting the BIOS password on a PC

Reset BIOS password on desktop computer– no problem. It is reset by clearing the CMOS flash memory, the small 32-pin PLCC chip on the motherboard that stores BIOS settings.

Cleaning is performed in many ways, but since the entrance to BIOS Setup is closed for us, and the operating system does not boot, we will consider only hardware ones.

Attention! Before following these instructions, unplug your computer.

  • Method 1: Temporarily remove the flash memory battery. The CMOS memory is powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery (pictured below as number 1), which is also located on the motherboard. Remove it from the socket and after 15-30 minutes put it back in place.
  • Method 2: closing the Clear CMOS contacts with a special jumper (number 2 in the photo below). These contacts are usually located near the battery and, in addition to “Clear CMOS”, can be marked as “CLRTC”, “Clear RTC”, “CLR CMOS”, “CRTC”, “CCMOS”, etc. In working condition, the jumper is in the position 1-2. To clear the flash memory, move it to pins 2-3, wait 30 seconds and return it to its place.

  • Method 3: Pressing the “Clr CMOS” button, which on some top-end motherboards replaces the jumper.

After turning on the PC again, the BIOS password will be reset, and the remaining BIOS Setup settings will return to their original state.

Resetting the BIOS password on a laptop

With laptops, things are more complicated, but there are more ways to reset the BIOS password on them. One is similar to the one described above, but it does not always help. Why:

  • To get to the battery or the “Clear CMOS” jumper, sometimes you have to completely disassemble the laptop. Only on some models the battery is located under a separate cover.

  • The battery may be soldered to the motherboard, but the jumper may be missing.
  • The BIOS password is sometimes stored in a separate EEPROM chip, and manipulation of the battery does not lead to anything. This is how business class laptops and some compact models are usually designed.

If the latter is your case, resetting the BIOS password can only be done by flashing the EEPROM on the programmer or selecting a master password - a universal code suitable for a specific brand of laptop.

The option with a programmer is clearly not for home users. Repairmen resort to him in service centers when more simple methods don't help.

In this case, the microcircuit is unsoldered from the board, new firmware is “poured” into it and soldered in place.

After that, using the BIOS editor, enter the MAC address into the firmware and serial numbers laptop.

It turns out that choosing a master password is the only thing you can do at home. Different laptop manufacturers do it differently.

The essence of the method comes down to the following: after several unsuccessful attempts to enter, the BIOS issues a certain code, on the basis of which a master password is generated.

Programs (rarely widely available) and web services are used as generators.

Sometimes the technical support service of the car manufacturer helps solve the problem, but, unfortunately, some require a fee for this.

Let's look at how to get a master password on laptops of the most common brands.

Asus.

Undocumented feature: Resetting BIOS settings and password on some models is performed by pressing the Insert key simultaneously with the Power button.

In other cases, after the entry fails three times, the BIOS displays the date of its installation on the screen. Each date is associated with a specific password.

First, try to find the master password on the Internet by date; fortunately, users are willing to share them. If it doesn’t work, use the generator service.

Acer.

Three unsuccessful input attempts result in the message “System disabled [numeric_code]”.

The code is used for generation. Since it changes every time you turn on the laptop, it is not possible to find a suitable master password on the Internet, as for Asus. Sometimes you have to generate several times.

HP, Lenovo.

Different BIOS versions of HP and Lenovo laptops display different messages. Some are the same as Acer's, others have an eight-digit digital code, and others have a ten-digit alphanumeric code.

The code is sent to the generator. Most often, a suitable option is not generated on the first try.

Bottom line

Try, and sooner or later you will succeed. But it’s better not to put a password on the BIOS unless absolutely necessary, or write it down on paper and store it in a safe place.

There are many options to protect data on your computer or laptop. You can password protect your computer using account and lock the laptop using the BIOS password. Most users prefer to add a strong password to their user accounts to prevent others from accessing the data. The windows login password is a good idea, but it may not prevent you from booting to the login screen and using workarounds, special programs to find out the password. Even more important is if someone manages to boot from a Linux Live CD or bootable Windows disk and instantly copy all data to an external drive.

Since all of the above passwords can be reset and found out using workarounds, some users prefer to use the BIOS password. The BIOS password is relatively safer than the user account password since no one will be able to boot from boot disk or before loading the login Windows system without entering the correct BIOS password.

Again, you can reset the BIOS password by removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard in your computer, but then it is not an easy job, especially on hp, dell, acer, asus, lenovo, samsung, toshiba brand laptops and tablets. Therefore, we will look at how to find out or reset the BIOS password on laptops and tablets if you have forgotten it and don’t remember it. I wonder how it works? A unique master password is set in the BIOS from the OEM. Using this master password, you can reset the password and gain access to the BIOS.

Reset BIOS password

Method 1. This method should work on most modern laptops and computers. I tried on Acer laptop and everything worked great.

  1. Turn on your laptop, computer and enter the BIOS password several times until you are locked out.
  2. Now you should immediately see a technical code or number, as in the figure below, or select Enter Unlock Password (enter a password to unlock). In other versions of BIOS, the code may be designated differently (System Disbled Service Tag), but the essence does not change.
  3. Write down all the codes on a piece of paper or on your mobile phone.

  • On your smartphone or other laptop, visit BIOS password website , enter the code you saw on the BIOS screen, and then click the Get password button. Knowing the laptop manufacturer, write down the password, if there are several of them, then write down several one after the other.

  • Now log in again before entering the password in the BIOS and enter the code that you wrote down from the site. Next, you can go to the BIOS settings and remove or change the password by entering the same code.

Method 2. I recently password-protected my old laptop from 2005. The BenQ brand, which is already very difficult to find on the Internet and information about it, especially about the BIOS. I used one method that helped me.

Need to run command line, but how to do this if there is a password? What do you need?

  1. If you can boot to your desktop, then run Command Prompt as an administrator.
  2. You can create an installation Windows flash drive and run CMD.
  3. You can install FreeDOS on the flash drive itself.

We use the command debug, which will damage some bytes of the protected checksum CMOS RAM areas. This is a risky method, but there was no way out and I didn’t mind the laptop, but everything went well. The next time you boot, CMOS will usually reset to its default settings. Don't forget to change the time, date and year if they go wrong.

Enter the command, where o is a letter.

  • debug
  • o 70 2E
  • o 71 FF
  • quit

Setting a password on the BIOS can be both an effective solution to unauthorized access to a computer, and a problem that will make a not very experienced user nervous. This article covers more than just installing protection on system program, but also how to remove the password from the BIOS if the user has forgotten it or it was installed without his knowledge.

Password effectiveness

Windows system protection is far from the most advanced and reliable. It can be easily hacked by using a special software or regular reinstallation operating system.

With a BIOS password, everything is much more complicated. By setting a password for the system program, the user will definitely not be able to gain access to Windows or access to the BIOS itself, which will significantly complicate the use of the computer without knowing the security key.

However, this does not mean that the PC is firmly protected. Yes, this protection is more reliable than the operating system, but it can also be hacked through certain manipulations. How to remove the password from the BIOS will be discussed below, but first you need to set it.

Installing protection on BIOS

First, we restart the computer, and as soon as the PC starts to start, go into the BIOS by pressing the Delete button (F1, F2, F9 - depending on the version of the system program).

The following image will appear on the screen (it also differs in different BIOS versions):

There are two points here that install protection on the system:

  • set supervisor password;
  • set user password.

The first one sets the password for the administrator, and the second one for the user. User access is different in that it allows you to view BIOS values (but not change them) and use Windows. The administrator password gives full access for the owner. If you set only the supervisor password, it will be requested only when entering the BIOS. Setting a user password will restrict loading of the operating system. To fully protect your computer, it is better to install two security codes at once.

On other computers, the password setting process may be slightly different. The security tab (located at the top, you can get to it using the arrows at the bottom of the keyboard) and the bios setting password may be responsible for this. The procedure for installing protection is almost identical - only the terms differ.

How to remove the password via BIOS

Removal of protection can occur by various reasons, but the easiest way to do this is through the BIOS itself.

Go to the security/bios password tab and look for the clear password parameter. To confirm the action, you will need to enter your password and then exit, saving the original data.

How to remove the BIOS password for those for whom it looks like in the first image. You must click set password, and after confirming the current password, when asked to set a new security code, click the delete button. The password has been reset - you can exit, remembering to save all changed parameters via F10.

This method only works if the user remembers their password. But how can you remove the password from the BIOS on a computer if you don’t remember it? It's a little more complicated here.

Resetting BIOS memory

This is the most convenient way to reset your password if the method described above is not suitable. Users often forget security keys, and resetting the BIOS memory is the only way out in this case.

To clear the BIOS, you need to short-circuit certain wires on the motherboard. It is not recommended to do this without involving a specialist - there is a much simpler way.

To safely reset the BIOS memory, you will need to remove the CMOS battery for a while and then insert it back.

This is what she looks like.

Remove carefully so as not to damage anything.

How to remove the BIOS password on a laptop

Removing the battery from a laptop or tablet running Windows is much more difficult. The whole process is complicated by disassembling the laptop. Not every user can do this on their own.

But there is a way out. To do this you will need:

  • another working device;
  • BIOS password generator.

A BIOS password generator can be found through a search engine - there are a large number of them on the Internet, or as an application for Android or IOS.

A user who knows how to remove a BIOS password will not find himself in a difficult situation if someone mistakenly or intentionally sets a password for a system program.

You can remove the password directly through the BIOS by logging into it and setting the clear password parameter. But this is only possible if the user remembers the security code. In cases where the password is lost, you will have to reset the memory physically or generate a standard password through the appropriate program.
