Yes, yes, the same Sparrow, so popular in 2012. The company was subsequently absorbed by the search giant Google, but small updates still continue to be released.

There is nothing superfluous here: on the left are incoming letters, on the right are tools for viewing a specific letter. Convenient access to “Favorites”, “Trash” and other tabs, as well as simplicity and conciseness make Sparrow one of best solutions in the region. The Lite version is distributed free of charge; for the full version you will have to pay 699 rubles. You can download it from this or this link.

The letter window can be placed on the right or completely separately - in case you always don’t have enough time free space on the desktop.

There's a reason I left this client for last, as I've been using it successfully for the past few months. We are talking specifically about version 1.0, since (in my opinion) version 2.0 is still “damp” for comfortable use: elements do not work correctly, letters are sent every other time, and so on.

A completely different matter is version 1.0, which works stably with all mail services (including Yandex) and has convenient tools to read mail from multiple accounts. The standard Mail email client is clearly smoking nervously on the sidelines.

Personally, I was captivated by Airmail's design, although Airmail 2.0 is much better in this regard. It is impossible to find the first version now, I advise you to search on the Internet. But the second version can be downloaded easily. Try it, maybe you'll like it?

If you use another email client on Mac or Windows that you're really excited about, please share it with everyone in the comments.

The chief editor of the site, Mikk Sid, asked me to recommend him a normal email client. He’s long been tired of standard Mail, but he really doesn’t want to trust his work correspondence to an application he’s put together on his knee. Does it make sense to change something?

To answer his question, I took branded email clients from Apple, Google and Microsoft, as well as a couple third party applications top developers. I pitted them against each other and found a favorite, which is separately noted at the end of the article.

Each of these email clients turns emails into tasks, guarantees the security of correspondence, and provides access to a number of useful features. But which one should you choose?

"Mail" is Apple's standard email client

Advantages: included in the device out of the box, copes with most tasks.

Flaws: No additional functions, suffers from notification problems.

It's a pity, but I don't have official statistics on the popularity of email clients for iPhone and Mac. However, experience suggests that it is the standard application that is used most often.

After a short setup, you can use it to create and send email with text, photos and other files immediately after you take the device out of the box.

Mail is an excellent email client that really deserves your attention. But he has there are not a number of really useful features, which will be useful to all those who need electronics to solve work problems.

In "Mail" I feel the most Smart filter missing for incoming letters. I would like all the useless spam that comes to me very often not to end up in the main directory.

Other users are complaining about the inability to snooze and schedule incoming letter. This useful opportunity allows you to remind you of the presence of a received message at a suitable time - for example, on weekdays.

And the standard email client has always had problems with Push notifications. I don’t know what this is connected with, but letters most often arrive with a long delay, and this is inconvenient.

Inbox - Google's proprietary email service

Advantages: clear message preview and cool smart filter.

Flaws: not suitable for third party email services, no normal application for Mac.

If you actively use Gmail, a branded email may be a good choice for you. Google service called Inbox.

For some reason, only this company thought of doing normal email preview: Show text, photos and other files immediately in the feed. All other solutions are extremely bad at this - usually a simple uninformative strip with a letter.

Inbox coolly filters incoming emails and separates important messages from useless junk in an intelligent way.

However, Inbox also has a number of disadvantages that Google company I did it on purpose. For me the biggest one is no Mac app. On a computer you have to use the web version, and this is inconvenient.

Personally, I use Gmail, so mobile device Inbox would be enough for me. But everyone else postal services remain practically extinct, and their fans need to look for an alternative.

And Google is too reluctant to optimize its programs for any new iOS capabilities and iPhone in principle, and this is also a big minus of this application.

Outlook - Microsoft's all-in-one application

Advantages: in the same style as other Microsoft products, additional features organizer

Flaws: in the same style as other Microsoft products, overloaded with organizer capabilities.

Among my acquaintances are dozens of users who prefer this to all other applications. Microsoft Outlook. What unites them all love for the company's software ecosystem, and active use of Office on Mac.

Outlook has an interface that is familiar to such users and a full set of all the necessary features, so I see no reason not to use it in this case.

However, I don’t know a single person who would use this email client separately from Office - there are only a few of them.

Microsoft has tried to turn Outlook from a simple email client into a real one. business tool with organizer capabilities and built a calendar, tasks and notes into it.

On the one hand, it's convenient. If you really use email a lot for work purposes, this all-in-one tool will definitely come in handy.

But on the other hand, Outlook is too functional and clumsy. I have long been accustomed to the fact that such combines are clumsy, and separate programs for each task are much more effective.

AirMail isn't a cheap winner at the Apple Design Awards

Advantages: Stylish minimalistic design, plenty of additional features.

Flaws: frequent malfunctions that appear at the most inopportune moment.

In 2017, the AirMail app became Apple Design Award winner. And this is not surprising, because the developers managed to make a truly functional email client for all occasions.

On the one hand, it has the simplest, minimalist interface without unnecessary control elements, which most often only distract from regular work tasks.

On the other hand, the developer managed to fit into this interface the full range of capabilities necessary for even the most advanced users.

This is the application I have been using for the past months, and I have never been embarrassed by its cost, even if there is a whole set of free analogues.

However, according to unknown reason AirMail is the one that fails me at the most inopportune moment. At times the application it just refuses to work properly, and this can only be solved by completely restarting the computer.

For example, the last time the program simply did not want to attach several documents to a letter in PDF format, which I urgently needed to send to my colleagues. So I had to say goodbye to him.

Spark is a free email program that I use now

Advantages: advanced email filter, simple interface, separate menu for attachments.

Flaws: an obvious overload of features that sometimes becomes distracting.

A Ukrainian development company called Readdle is responsible for creating the Spark email client. Although it can be called Ukrainian only with a big stretch, because the head office of the studio has long been located in San Jose, USA.

You may know it from a number of useful office applications for every day, including universal mobile file manager Documents, the advanced calendar Calendars 5 and the cool pocket scanner Scanner Pro.

Spark really makes it possible look at email in a new way, and it hasn’t let me down yet.

For all users of any computer, no matter for work or personal purposes, it is necessary e-mail. For Apple fans, it will be important to find out how it goes setting up mail on MacBook.

Getting started

Before all settings you need to bind your mailboxes to the mail client. By default this is done as follows.

  1. Let's go to settings.
  2. Next, “Internet Accounts.”
  3. Then we select the box you need and add it to the client. Let's say you have Yandex mail. We choose Yandex. Enter your username and password. After that, it appears in the list, which is located on the left side.

That's it, synchronization was successful! This way you can link an unlimited number of mailboxes.

Mail settings

The first stage has been completed. After that, we go to the mail itself. By default, on the left side there are inbox, VIP, marked, sent, spam, trash, mailboxes. Letters can be viewed separately for each mailbox (if you have several of them) or all together. You can set a filter. When enabled, only unread messages will be visible.

VIP is a very useful thing. These are addresses that have been added to, so to speak, “favorites.” When receiving emails from such addresses, Push notifications will pop up. The top menu is completely identical to the side menu. In the upper left corner there is a button to force mail checking. Next to it there is a button for writing and then sending a letter.

We've sorted out the basics, let's go to settings. We go into the settings and the first thing we see is the default email client. Next comes the verification setup. It can be automatic, every 5, 15, 30 minutes or manually. Manually – only when you start the program will new messages arrive. Then we set up the message sound. Select the downloads folder - the place where the attached files will be saved. Next, go to the text color and font settings. Customize everything for yourself. Set the message format - it is better to choose “plain text”. Then set up a signature - this is the text that will be displayed at the end of each letter. If desired, you can customize the control panel by simply dragging and dropping icons. All, mail on MacBook ready!
