It matters a lot to me simplicity, because this, in my opinion, is the meaning of such an “organization.” I want my desktops to not look like a cluttered trash can, with all the icons and folders scattered haphazardly. It needs to have its own logics, concept.
Also, it is important for me to receive fast access to the most frequently used applications, so as not to perform unnecessary manipulations. That being said, I don't like methods that involve creating a large number of desktops. Ideally, for me there should be 2-3 of them, on which all applications fit.
Now let's talk directly about how I sort applications.
The first question you should answer is what apps do you use? more often? Select the 4 most important apps for you and place them in the Dock so you can access them from any desktop. In my case, these are the VKontakte, Tweetbot, Mailbox and iA Writer applications. It is important that I can quickly open them from any desktop.
Place the next 16 (in the case of iPhone 4/S) or 20 (iPhone 5/C/S) most used applications on the first desktop. At the same time, I believe that there should be no folders with applications on the home screen. Even if you have apps from the same category, you don't need to create folders for them. The most required applications must be indirect, that is, they must be “alone.” This allows you to make your home screen simple and clear.
We'll talk about why I organized the application icons in this order a little later. Now let's think about what to do with the remaining applications.
To avoid creating multiple desktops, I group them into folders based on the category they belong to (Photography, Design, Games, etc.) and the situations in which I need them (Work ", "Moscow"). You can divide them only by categories or only by situations, whichever is more convenient for you. It was important to me not to create a bunch of desktops. While you scroll to the one you need, you may forget which application you need. As I already said, simplicity is important to me quick access to programs.
I also have a 3rd desktop for applications that I don't use at all. This is most of the built-in applications from Apple and, of course, Kiosk.
Now let's go back to my first desktop. Why are these applications placed this way on the desktop?
I'll explain. Here my logic is to combine “geographically” on the desktop applications from the same category or situation in which I need them. That is why “Reminders” are located next to the “Calendar”, and App Store with AppZapp. Of course, it is impossible to assign absolutely every application to some group, because there may simply not be similar applications on the desktop. I have such “single” applications - Settings, 2GIS and Music.
Applications that are grouped into categories are circled in green, “single” applications that do not have “brothers” on the desktop are outlined in red.
Within the framework of my “concept” for organizing a workspace on the iPhone, there is only one question left - the question of aesthetics. It's very strange when application icons of different colors and styles are next to each other. Of course, sometimes it is not possible to separate them on an “aesthetic” basis. But in folders of the same category, as on my second desktop, it’s quite possible to do this.

In general, this is my logic for organizing applications on iPhone desktops. Let's take a quick look at the main steps of my application sorting again.
- Define what applications do you use more often. Place the 4 most used applications in the Dock. The remaining 16 (20) go to the first desktop.
- Group remaining applications into folders and place them on second desktop.
- Move apps that you don't use at all and that can't be removed to 3rd desktop. You can leave them on the second one if there is room there.
- Group applications on your first desktop by categories and/or situations in which you need them. Applications from the same group should be nearby.
- If possible, sort applications by icon color. This will visually simplify the organization of applications.
