IN modern society It is difficult to imagine a person who would not know what the Internet, browser, link and similar terms are. Some users are well versed in software and setting up the computer as such, however, there are those who sometimes need help in solving various issues. It is well known that in order to access the World Wide Web, electronic computer a browser must be installed - a program specially created to display Internet pages. Today there are a lot of similar browsers, however, Internet Explorer is well known to everyone. standard program, integrated into the Windows package.

Lost connection? No problem - in this article we will tell you how to work on the Internet autonomously.

As we have already found out, to access the network, a browser must be installed on the computer, and, of course, it must be connected and configured to work on the World Wide Web. However, even if the Internet is disconnected, you can still browse the pages. How to do this?

Function offline mode is intended primarily to ensure that the user, in the event of restricted access to the network, can still view Internet pages. But this function only works for pages that have already been opened before.

To enable it, you need to open the browser and go to the “Service” tab, where you will find the inscription “Work offline”, with a red cross (disabled) or a bird (enabled) next to it.

If a window pops up on the screen in which the program tells you that this page cannot be opened, alas, nothing can be done. This is a fairly common problem, so we recommend that you open pages that interest you using the “Journal”.

It’s not news to anyone that any browser saves all the user’s movements and open sites in the so-called “History”, or in the IE browser - “Journal”. It is here that the user himself can view and remember when and what pages he opened. To open the magazine, click on the “Favorites” button, next to which there will be a yellow star. If you click on the site you are interested in, a list of pages you have visited on this web resource will open under it.

Now take a look at these pages. If the font in which they are written is transparent, then you will not be able to open it using offline mode, and when the text is bright and rich, then, most likely, the page will be opened.

Even in the absence of the Internet, you have the opportunity to check your mail, write letters, save them, and so on. To enable this feature, go to your Gmail page and go to settings. Here you will see many tabs, among which will be “Offline”. After you go to it, you will be asked to install Gmail Offline, a special plugin that allows you to work with mail without access to the World Wide Web and synchronizes data after the advent of the Internet. After installation, the corresponding icon will appear in the “Services” menu. When you open the plugin for the first time, the utility will ask you whether to start using it or not use it for now. Once you agree, you will be taken to a lite version of the Gmail mail page. Now you can come here and work whenever your Internet connection is lost.

Let's say you read an interesting story on the Internet. Several days passed and I wanted to re-read it. But then, as luck would have it, the Internet was turned off. You can forget about your desire for a while, or you can try opening the story offline.

Note: The computer remembers some sites, or rather, individual pages of sites that you visited. And some pages can be opened even without being on the Internet. But alas, not all of them will open through offline mode. It depends on your luck.

Now let's move on to practice. We will learn how to use offline mode in the most popular browsers: Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla Firefox. Study the information that applies to your browser, you can skip the rest.

If you don't know what a browser is, take a look at the How and What to Find on the Internet lesson.

Offline mode in Internet Explorer

We will look at working offline using the latest version of Internet Explorer as an example. At the time of writing this lesson, she is 9th. By the way, the most latest version This browser can be downloaded for free.

Internet Explorer is included standard set utilities for Windows OS. For it to work, you need a connection to the network, that is, to the Internet. But if, for example, there is no connection, but you need to finish reading the article on the site? What to do in this case? Wait until the Internet comes back? Don’t put off using your browser: in this situation, the offline mode in Internet Explorer will help.

About the mode

The mode allows you to work in the Internet Explorer browser without a network. However, you can visit and read only those pages that you or another computer user have already visited before, since the system has already managed to remember them.

The option must first be enabled in the settings. We'll talk about this a little later. Open your bookmarks to find the resource you need. You can also use the address bar for navigation or the Visit Log. The last option, by the way, is preferable. Otherwise, a window may appear with an inscription indicating that the page cannot be opened.

  1. Click on the star in the top bar of the browser. Switch to the Journal tab.
  2. There will be categories: by date, by node, by popularity and others. Select the one you need and find the site in the list.

If you search through the address bar: look at the color of the font of the inscriptions. If it is translucent, then the page definitely cannot be opened, even if you have launched it previously in this browser. Most likely, a failure occurred and the system simply did not remember it. If the color is saturated, then the resource will be available offline. You have the right to click on it. The pages will open in full. You can get the information you need there.

Mail offline

In IE, you can safely work with Gmail in this mode. Autonomous operation here is to check mail, write letters (in particular, drafts that are saved in the “Outbox” folder and sent after the network appears). For the function to become available, you must first activate it.

  1. To enable it, go to your mail settings.
  2. Go to the "Offline" tab.
  3. Install the Gmail Offline plugin.
  4. Open the plugin. Start using the feature now or select “Do not use yet.”
  5. Now you can come here and work here every time there is no network.

Once a connection appears on the device, the system synchronizes everything itself in the mail: you will not need to additionally save anything or send letters that were saved in so-called “drafts”.

Enable/disable offline mode

When there is a connection, it is still recommended to turn off offline mode, since the program may automatically switch to it: new pages that you have not previously launched in the browser will not load. Thus, you need to check if the browser is running offline. If yes, then immediately deactivate the function.

How to disable offline mode in Internet Explorer if it is activated? Just uncheck the corresponding item in the menu. This is done in just a couple of clicks.

1.Open the “File” section in the top panel.

If it is missing, right-click on the empty field at the top of the window next to or above the address bar. A menu should appear - in it, click on the “Menu Bar” option. She will appear immediately.

2. We find the inscription: “Work autonomously.”

3.Uncheck this item.

Second way to disable:

  1. Open the "Service" section.
  2. Run the “ ” block and then go to the “Connections” subsection.
  3. Ban the use of dial-up connections.
  4. Go to “Network Settings” and uncheck all the boxes. Click OK.
  5. Restart your computer.

The Internet Explorer browser can work offline, that is, without the Internet, but, of course, with significant limitations: only previously visited pages will open. It’s better to access them through the Journal. You can also use the address bar to navigate. The function is nevertheless very useful. If it weren't for her, we would just have to wait for the connection. With the option, there is at least some possibility of working with the browser.

Despite the universal availability of the Internet, in some situations the network connection may not be available. Using the offline mode in the Internet Explorer browser, you can open previously visited web resources without the Internet and even work with mail using special plugins.

Despite its convenience, this mode sometimes interferes with normal use social networks and watching videos. In our short article we will tell you how you can disable offline mode using several methods.
