This instruction demonstrates the process of installing Windows 7 on a VDS using Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 as an example. To install Windows Server 2012, you can use automatic installation when ordering from billing (paid license), so installing Windows Server is not described in this manual. However, these instructions can be used to install any Windows operating system, the sequence of actions remains unchanged.
Instructions for installing Windows 7 on a FirstByte virtual server
The installed Windows 7 OS takes up on average about 14 GB of disk space, so you should choose a tariff suitable for this, for example, starting with MSK-KVM-SSD-3 or MSK-KVM-SAS-3, keep in mind that you may need more space and to suit your needs.
Installation from an ISO image is only possible after activating the server, so first we need to order a server with, for example, Centos 6, because this OS is the fastest to install.
Go to billing, go to the virtual servers tab, select your VDS, click Go.
Once in the server control panel, we go to the ISO images section and click Download.
We download our Windows 7 OS image either from local computer, or via the link.
After the download starts, you need to wait for it to complete. Depending on the size of the image and the speed of your Internet connection, it may take for a long time. After downloading, the image will appear in the list of all images; the ISO image is not checked for validity after downloading. The image is automatically deleted one day after downloading.
Once the image has successfully loaded, go to the menu “ Virtual machines", select the required VDS and temporarily stop it with the "Stop" button, then press the "Interfaces" button.
While in the “Interfaces” tab, change virtio to rtl8139, as shown in the screenshot. Click OK and return to the control panel. ( This information is relevant only for Windows operating systems; when installing other operating systems, nothing needs to be changed at this point)
Now go to the “Disks” item.
Select yours from the list Windows image 7. Click ok. (The name of the image may differ from the name in the screenshot)
While in the “Disks” item, we also switch the tires from Virtio mode to IDE mode. This is what the item should look like after connection: ISO image and all changes made.
Exit the “Disks” item, turn on the server with the “Start” button, go to VNC. (Best suited for working via VNC Chrome browser)
We see the loading screen, press any button to start loading from the disk. The installation has started.
After loading we will see the disk and its logical partition. You must remove all logical drives to leave unallocated space. After this, we create a new logical drive. Click next.
The preparation of files for installation has begun; a reboot will be required upon completion.
The server will reboot automatically. You just need to refresh the VNC window tab in your browser. (The reboot process is not instantaneous and takes about 20 seconds)
The operating system will boot again to complete the installation of files.
Go to the Network and Sharing Center.
Select the connection option local network. Go to Properties.
Select “Internet Protocol Version 4”. Go to Properties of this item.
In the window that appears, you must specify the IP address of your VDS, mask, gateway and DNS; to obtain this information, we return to billing.
Go to the IP addresses tab.
We see the information that interests us.
We return to the “Internet Protocol Version 4” properties. In the lines marked with frame No. 1, enter your billing data. (This information may differ from what is shown in the screenshot)
DNS must be specified in the same way as in the screenshot (frame No. 2):
83.217.24.42 and 8.8.8.8, click OK.
After this, you can open your browser and make sure that the Internet is working. May be required reboot Windows 7.
