• Fully laminated 9.7 inch LCD multi-touch screen with IPS technology and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 at 264 pixels/inch, with anti-glare coating
  • CPU A8X with 64-bit architecture (rumored to be triple-core with a 1.5GHz SoC), paired with 2GB RAM and an M8 motion coprocessor
  • 8 megapixel rear iSight camera capable of recording 1080p/30fps or 720p/120fps video + front camera 1.2 megapixels with 720p video recording
  • Fingerprint ID sensor + barometer + dual microphones + 3-axis gyroscope + accelerometer + ambient light sensor
  • 802.11ac dual-antenna MIMO Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0
  • Memory 16, 64 or 128 GB

Step 2

iPad Air 2 marked the beginning of a new marking for models of the A15XX type. For example, this iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi model is numbered A1566. Along with the new number iPad Air 2 introduces new feature the iPad series includes a fingerprint identification sensor (Touch ID).

If you are not yet familiar with this technology, Touch ID will allow you to unlock your iPad using your fingerprint, moreover, you can use it to “sign” your purchases in iTunes Store, App Store and iBooks Store. The device is capable of reading a fingerprint from any angle and in any orientation.

Step 3

Last year's iPad Air was as thin as a pencil. This year the new iPad Air 2 is even thinner! Seriously, a 6.1mm profile is very impressive! Not only is it thinner than the previous iPad Air, it's also thinner than all previous iPhones. What other changes? For example, a slight shift of the dual microphone to the iSight camera of the iPad Air.

iPad Air 2 has become not only thinner, but also lighter.

We had high hopes that this iPad Air 2 would work without glue, we tried to find at least some screws on the outside. Apple managed to do without glue when creating the iPhone 6 the size of a tablet.

But no, we are forced to resort to iOpener. We'll publish it someday detailed description this “introductory” procedure.

Step 4

What then? Classic iPad opening using high heat and carefully opening the tablet panel. The front panel of the new model is more durable than previous iPads, but still flexes quite well when you try to peel off the glass. This can lead to damage and it doesn’t matter which part you would like to replace, since it is impossible to get inside the tablet in any other way. The only option to save on such repairs is to contact suppliers of spare parts for mobile and tablets and purchase components at a wholesale price.

Step 5

After successfully opening the iPad Air 2, we notice that all the screen cables are now located at the bottom of the iPad. I must say, this is a welcome change. In the previous version, the screen and digitizer cables were on opposite sides of the device, and it was easy to damage one of them when opening the device. Also, be careful not to push the edges of the iOpener in too far, as it's easy to get it wrong with the iPad Air 2.

Step 6

The Touch ID cable design is similar to what is found in the latest generation iPhone. Having removed the home button, we found a single chip on it labeled “Semiconductor NXP 8416A1 Touch ID Sensor.” Further examination revealed even more chips on the front panel:

  • Parade Technologies DP675 LCD Driver
  • Texas Instruments TPS65143A LCD Bias Solution For LCD Panels

Step 7

Step 8

Our next step is a front-facing HD camera and an 8-megapixel iSight camera surrounded by a microphone. Compared to what we saw in the iPhone 6, we can't say it's the same as the iPad Air 2, but it's a significant leap in technology for the iPad line.

Step 9

The location and design of the headphone jack remains mostly identical. We say “mostly” only because of one small thing. It appears that the iPad Air 2's front HD camera ambient light sensor has been split into 2 sensors, and one of them is now located on the headphone jack.

Step 10

The antennas on our Wi-Fi model are now located at the top of the iPad, where they were previously located lower down. I wonder where the antennas are located on the iPad Air LTE version. Use the spudger to remove the antennas.

Step 11

In this device assembly, first we will take out the microphone, then the light sensor and the power button. Then we pull out another microphone and two volume switches on a single cable.

Step 12

The following markings were found on the microphones:

  • M1300 5743 M1 334 (microphone located on the power button cable)
  • M1300 5723 M1 334 (microphone located on the volume control cable)

Step 13

Unfortunately, the iPad's logic board is stuck in place, so we once again resort to the tried and true iOpener. After some tedious work we release the board.

Sadly, the Lighting connector cable is soldered onto the logic board. This means that if you need to replace a connector cable, you will have to replace the entire logic board.

Step 14

Finally, we got to the chips on the iPad logic board:

  • Apple APL1012 A8X processor with 64-bit architecture
  • Elpida/Micron technology F8164A3MD RAM (1 GB) by 8 GB (1 GB x 2 = 2 GB total)
  • SK Hynix H2JTDG8UD1BMR 128 Gb (16 GB) NAND Flash
  • NXP 65V10 NFC Manager (as found in iPhone 6 and 6 Plus)
  • Apple (Cirrus Logic) 338S1213 Audio Codec
  • NXP Semiconductors LPC18B1UK ARM Cortex-M3 Microcontroller (Apple M8 motion coprocessor)
  • Murata 339S02541 Wi-Fi module

Step 15

The following chips:

  • Maxim Integrated MAX98721BEWV Boosted Class Amplifier
  • Broadcom BCM5976 Digital Converter Manager
  • Texas Instruments TI48WHXDP 343S0583
  • Semiconductor Fairchild FDMC 6683 and FDMC 6676BZ (these two chips were used in all tablets starting with the iPad 2)
  • Bosch Sensortec BMP280 barometer and BMA280 accelerometer

Step 16

The iPad Air battery is now free of the logic board and ready to be removed. But it is again glued to the panel and requires an iOpener. Not bad, but it would be better to leave us at least some tabs for quick battery replacement. This battery is rated at 27.62 Wh, a slight drop in power compared to the previous iPad Air (32.9 Wh).

Apple claims the same 10 hours of battery life as the first iPad Air, so the battery is used more efficiently. Although if you believe the reviews and earlier reviews, the actual battery life is still reduced compared to its predecessor iPad Air 2.

Step 17

After removing all the components from the back of the tablet, all that remains are the Smart Cover magnets. Great news, last year's Smart Cover is fully compatible with the iPad Air 2. A small loophole in the annual upgrade and update of spare parts for tablets.

Step 18

iPad Air 2 repairability score: 2 out of 10.

Battery new iPad Air is not soldered to the logic board. When assembling the tablet, too much glue was used, which makes repairs much more difficult.

The LCD screen and front panel are now glued together. This simplifies the “introductory” procedure a little. But this design now increases the cost of repairing the screen and increases the risk of screen damage when the device is opened. The front panel is glued to the rest of the device, which can also cause the glass to break when disassembling the tablet. But you can save money in the event of an accidental breakdown by purchasing spare parts for Apple in bulk from Optima Electronics.

iPad Air 2 has been walking around the planet for quite some time now for a long time, which means a considerable number of “lucky ones” managed to break it, fill it with something, or completely drown it. For the last two we have the corresponding rescue instructions; for all the others who will definitely need to open their Air, this manual is intended.

When you try to open the iPad, you will face great difficulties. Apple I decided to get rid of all the screws and opt for glue. The extreme thinness of the gadget requires sacrifice...

Therefore, the only way to look inside is to heat the device with a heating pad that has previously been in the microwave (however, a household hair dryer will also work). Next, we pry the screen with a mediator or plastic card and lift it up. Be careful as there is a risk of damaging the matrix.

Once you've successfully opened your iPad Air 2, you'll notice that all of the display cables are now located in the bottom corner on the side.

The appearance of the Touch ID sensor cable is in many ways similar to that of the new generation iPhone.

Now we remove the FaceTime HD camera and the 8 MP iSight camera surrounded by a microphone. If you compare it with that of the iPhone 6 Plus, you can immediately notice a big difference. True, of course, it is still better than in the past iPad generation Air.

Location and appearance The headphone jacks remained virtually unchanged.

In the Wi-Fi model, the antenna is now located on the top of the device.

The following markings may be found on microphones.

M1300 5743 M1 334
M1300 5723 M1 334

We hasten to inform you that the logic board is still glued. Again you will have to resort to heating. After extraction, we are disappointed to see that Lightning connector still soldered to the logic board.

Finally, we get to the chips!

The battery is no longer attached to the logic board and can be removed.

After complete opening, all that remains is a lifeless shell with magnets for working with Smart Covers. Good news, the old cases still fit!

On the repairability scale, the iPad Air 2 receives 2 points out of 10. It is obvious why the new product received such a low rating. The only advantage is the ability to remove the battery.

iCloud- Internet service created by Apple, which serves for remote storage of data and exchange of this data between connected user devices.

The program works together with iCloud "Find my iPhone". Wikipedia:

The Find iPhone/ iPad/ Mac application allows you to find any device under iOS control or Mac OS, lock it or erase all data remotely. To detect, you need to activate this function on the device itself by entering your iCloud account login and password. You can't disable the feature without entering a password, so this can serve as a protection against theft. To work you need an Internet connection.

Blocking

If the device disappears, the owner can go to the iCloud service and block it this device. You can even send a message to your device's lock screen for whoever turns it on.

The stupidest thing is when the owner blocks the device, but does not indicate his contact information in the message on the lock screen. Not for yourself, not for people.

Reasons for blocking devices

Let's start with the most “It’s not my fault. It itself” and we will get to the most malicious ones.
  • You bought an iPad, created yourself account Apple ID, entered it on the device, but did not save the login and password for yourself. Some time later, you decide to reset your device or update it to iOS 7-8. And then iCloud will send you a hello in the form of a request for your Apple ID and password, which you have already forgotten.
  • Someone bought an iPad, but was too lazy to set up the tablet himself. Someone “Nutyzhkomputer” or a store salesperson set it up for him and did not give him the password and login. Someone resets or updates a device - hello from iCloud.
  • You buy the device second-hand or online. You didn’t check whether the old owner’s Apple ID was deleted from the device, the seller forgot to delete it or didn’t want to on purpose. Reset or update - hello. And some sellers specifically sell it this way, then block the device remotely and demand money.
  • You walked and walked and found the iPad. Its owner has already noticed the loss and sent you greetings through the iCloud lock screen. If found, it is better to return it to the owner for a reward. :) Especially the Wi-Fi model. There is no sense from it yet.
  • Someone borrowed his iPad without the owner noticing. He noticed, he blocked him.
  • Someone visibly and with malicious hooliganism borrowed an iPad from the owner. The owner came to his senses and blocked the iPad.
Remember that stealing and buying stolen goods is an illegal activity.

If option 1 or 2 happened to you, then you can officially unlock your iPad.

On iPad Model A1396 (GSM), remove resistor r1205 (10 kOhm).
On Model A1397 (CDMA), move resistor r1205 in place of r1204.

GSM has been doing this for a long time, but only 1 person confirmed CDMA in personal correspondence.

Unlock iPad 3 3G

On iPad Model A1430 (GSM), remove resistor r1204 (10kOhm).
On Model A1403 (CDMA), perhaps move resistor r1204 in place of r1205. CDMA not tested.

Unlock iPad Air 3G

On iPad Model A1475 (GSM), remove resistor r1506 (10kOhm?).

Checked by a resident of Kyiv.

Unlock iPad mini with Retina 3G

The rarest. Only the anonymous society of greedy unlockers has schematics for the device itself. I don’t have a good quality diagram, but what was there had to be restored after someone had drawn it in Paint. The resistor labels on the diagram cannot be read, so it is labeled as 1, 2, 3, 4. Perhaps 4 is r1204, 1 is r1205.

On Model A1490 (GSM) resistors 1 and 2 (both 2.2k) should remain on the board, remove resistors 3 and 4.

Sent and tested by Alexander Hohlenko (Russia).

Useful information about other methods to bypass iCloud Lock

On the Wi-Fi version, you can “transplant” the NAND chip from an unlocked device. You can also transfer the NAND + modem combination to the 3G/4G version. Some, it seems, even install NAND devices + a modem from the iPhone on the iPad that are compatible with certain versions of devices.

It's all complicated and expensive.

The resistors are very small, so do all this carefully and with a sober head. Good luck to you!

P.S. My karma is in the minus. Therefore, I cannot write comments often and the number of pictures in them is limited. I would be grateful if you tell each other yourself, otherwise I’ll have to wait a long time to answer at least once.
