Smartphone line Samsung Galaxy The S10 is somewhat revolutionary. It's not just round serial number, and many technical solutions, albeit not always successful.

The Galaxy S10, which is the mid-range device in Samsung's tenth-generation flagship lineup, has a triple camera with a resolution of 12, 12 and 16 megapixels with variable aperture and optical zoom.

The standard “ten” received technology similar to that found in the Galaxy A7. The smartphone remained at the level of the Galaxy S10e, and the maximum gradation of built-in storage increased to 512 GB. The smartphone display has a diagonal of 6.1 inches, Quad HD+ resolution and a built-in fingerprint scanner.

There are four versions of this smartphone in total. The most interesting of them is the limited edition Galaxy S10+ with 1 TB built-in and 12 GB RAM. True, it did not find much response due to its high cost.

For a long time fashion for stripped-down versions flagship smartphones Only Chinese manufacturers supported it. In any case, they thought they supported it, because they were quite passable models with rather mediocre features, which ensured their low price. And the only thing that made such devices similar to flagships was the identical name, flavored with the clarifying prefix Lite, so as not to cause confusion. There wasn’t much to complain about here, because you couldn’t just take and release a smartphone with top-end hardware for half the money. Or is it still possible?

Ivan Kuznetsov 03/02/2020

I already told you once. Perhaps to some of you my method will seem obvious or, on the contrary, meaningless, but it has never failed me. Another thing is that it is aimed mainly at devices of the same generation, which are included in the same price category. Therefore, for those who are primarily based not on price, but on the practicality of a particular model, when considering devices from different years of production, it will not be suitable. Let's fill the gap using the example of last year and the new S20.

Ivan Kuznetsov 12/20/2019

Samsung was one of the first to start releasing simplified versions of flagship smartphones, trying to make them as cheap as possible. True, in fact it turned out that there was nothing from the flagships in them except the name, to which the postscript Lite was simply added, therefore, from excess power and functionality such devices clearly did not suffer. Despite this, at first their sales were quite brisk, but over time, users began to understand that, under the guise of a cheaper flagship, they were being sold an ordinary budget model, and the demand for them stopped until Apple began releasing “real” conditionally affordable flagships. It was then that Samsung decided to return to the forgotten concept.

Despite the fact that performance has ceased to be a key indicator of the advancement of a smartphone, it still continues to grow, setting new records year after year. It has gotten to the point where computing power modern devices came very close to mid-range computers, but they never learned how to run games designed for desktop platforms. Apparently, more stringent requirements for graphics and processor architecture have an effect. But this does not mean that you cannot run computer games on smartphones at all. Can.

Bureaucracy, along with negligence, is one of the reasons that provokes leaks of information about upcoming new products, which their manufacturers would probably like to keep secret until release. But if, in principle, it is possible to somehow combat negligence and unprofessionalism, then trying to defeat the bureaucracy is practically useless. Fighting her is like fighting a multi-headed monster. As soon as one head is cut off, a new and even more embittered one grows in its place. However, allegory aside.

Ivan Kuznetsov 11/11/2019

Despite the identical set of characteristics, the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines have always been positioned as radically different. Samsung not only tried to space out their releases, separating one presentation from another by about six months, but also expanded the functionality of the Galaxy Note models compared to the Galaxy S devices. Therefore, those who wanted to get their hands on the new flagship early bought classic smartphones, and those Those who were expecting maximum bells and whistles were waiting for new phablets with pen support to hit the market. However, with Samsung time came to the conclusion that this kind of segregation did not play into its hands, and therefore began to release updates that equalized the functionality of both lines.

More recently, the hearts of Samsung users skipped a beat at the sight of the new 2018 Galaxy S9. But before the owners had time to evaluate the functional features of the gadget, rumors about the future flagship Samsung Galaxy S10 began to leak onto the network. Among the main leaks: the developers are ready to use a new type of battery, introduce advanced technologies and even change the name of the flagship. This information was shared by the head of the division of the South Korean corporation, DJ Koh.

Samsung fans have already noticed that new devices will be presented at Mobile World Congress. The exhibition of mobile industry achievements usually takes place in the first quarter of the year. That is why the estimated time of appearance of the new product can be considered the end of February 2019. Earlier dates look unrealistic due to the introduction of a new solid-state battery.

Smartphone characteristics

The exact characteristics of the new generation smartphone remain a mystery until the official appearance of the Galaxy S10 in public. However, something is already known:

  1. The new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with a chip based on 7 nm technology and possible download speeds of up to 2 Gbps, for comparison, the performance of the S9 is 1.2 Gbps.
  2. The 4K Ultra HD Super AMOLED smartphone display can become flexible.
  3. The camera of the device will resemble the Galaxy S9 Plus with three lenses: an 18 MP main camera and a 10 MP dual front camera.
  4. RAM – 6 GB.
  5. The built-in memory capacity will be 64, 256 and 512 GB.
  6. The lithium-ion battery will be replaced with a 3800 mAh solid-state battery, which will increase battery life.
  7. 5G network support.

The list of specifications has been compiled based on all available information.

Taking into account complex and expensive developments, manufacturing costs, and the cost of high-quality components, the price of the Galaxy S10 in Russia will vary from 58,500 to 62,000 rubles. Apparently, the cost will not exceed the psychological mark of $1000.

Photos appear online closer to the release of the Galaxy S10 appearance smartphone. These are rather fake pictures of unknown devices, since the company has not yet made any official statements. The main thing that all users are sure of is that the smartphone will become truly frameless. The screen will cover from 93 to 99% of the front part of the device.

Galaxy S10 news and rumors

Without waiting for the official release Galaxy smartphone S10, the corporation shares news about several patented technologies. The company's engineers were able to integrate the following into the Super AMOLED display:

  • front camera;
  • light and proximity sensors;
  • conversational speaker.

Even the fingerprint scanner has been placed under the updated screen. After such news from the leaders of the mobile industry, it will be difficult to wait for the official release of the smartphone in the first quarter of 2019.

Two years ago, the main embarrassment in the history of Samsung’s mobile division occurred: the Galaxy Note 7 turned out to be a time bomb, so it was quickly removed from sale. That story ended not only with humiliating apologies on their knees, but also with a grandiose work on mistakes - the neat and stylish Galaxy S8 made us forget about the disaster with the explosive flagships.

That phone was praised even by those who previously considered Koreans tasteless in terms of design. Compared to the archaic iPhone 7, the Galaxy S8 looked like a device from the future - thanks to its thin frames, “infinite” curved display and OLED matrix.

True, after this local triumph, Samsung relaxed again and presented the frankly passable and boring Galaxy S9. The public reacted to him quite unequivocally: “It’s great that the S8 will now become cheaper.” Stores even had to artificially slow down the G8 interface so that when comparing models, customers would choose the newer and more expensive one.

As a result, 2018 remained with Apple. While Samsung bosses were studying sad financial statements and reading news with headlines like “Galaxy S9 is selling worse than Galaxy S3,” the whole world was copying the cutout of the iPhone X. At the same time, two more holidays happened in Cupertino: first, the average price of one smartphone jumped to $700 (crazy level), and then the company broke through the capitalization of one trillion dollars.

Now the Koreans are forced to respond. Against the backdrop of the release of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR, insights about the Galaxy S10 for some reason went into the shadows, but they definitely cannot be neglected. There is reason to believe that this gadget will become no less resonant than the Galaxy S8 - at least, all preliminary information points to the gigantic potential of this model.

Below are five main facts about the tenth anniversary Galaxy.

1. Apparently, the smartphone will debut in January. Samsung is forced to postpone the announcement in order to quickly respond to a pack of new smartphones from Apple. Previously, the Koreans consistently rolled out their flagships at the end of winter or early spring. The conclusion is very simple: now Asians are eager to demonstrate a revolutionary model.

2. The main feature of the Galaxy S10 is the disappearing front camera. It will be sewn directly into the display - the module will be noticeable only in those moments when the user starts selfie mode. There has never been anything like this on the market before. For example, the Chinese, who want to hide the camera, put it inside the case and install a mechanism that quickly pushes the lens out. Samsung's solution is much more technologically advanced and elegant.

3. The Galaxy S10 will not have a so-called chin, that is, a lower indentation. Now all models except the iPhone X have it. The reason is simple: to destroy this area, you need to order an expensive curved screen. The Chinese don’t see the point in this, but the Koreans did, and they clearly set themselves the task of releasing a completely frameless flagship. No unibrows, no unnecessary space - just display and nothing else. Again, history may repeat itself with the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7: the iPhone XS notch will seem antediluvian next to the perfectly frameless S10.

4. According to insiders, the Galaxy S10 will be released in three variations: budget, standard and premium. The first two are not very interesting, but the third is a catalog of elite specifications. First, there will be a lightning-fast fingerprint scanner right under the display (another technology that Apple hasn't conquered). Secondly, the Koreans will install a triple main camera module in the coolest S10 - like in the Huawei P20 Pro. It seems that the main task of Samsung managers is to beat all competitors by a margin in the authoritative Dx0Mark rating.

5. Last point- about the colors of the cases. Now in Asia, smartphones with gradient back covers, like the Honor 10, are in great demand. Apple missed this trend (or considered it tasteless), but Samsung is definitely (according to leaks) will release at least one modification of the S10 in a mega-bright design.

Why might a plan fail?

In terms of camera, design, and exclusive features, the Galaxy S10 will look much preferable to boring and expensive ones new Apple products. The only question is how successfully everything will be implemented. On paper, the S10's specs are impressive, but in reality, shortcomings can pop up in the most unexpected places. Just remember the previous Samsung flagships:

1.Galaxy S8- was good for almost everyone, but the Koreans screwed up with the fingerprint scanner. At first they didn’t plan to put it there at all (they thought they’d get by with a face recognizer), and then they stuck it in the most inconvenient place - on the side of the camera. As a result, users became annoyed due to the fact that their fingers hit everything except the sensor. Samsung's arrogance is to blame here - apparently they decided that since they were offering four different ways unlocking, then it no longer matters how well they work.

The Galaxy S10 and presumably the S10+ promise to be Samsung's most interesting devices in years. And there are at least two reasons for this. Firstly, the Galaxy S9 sold poorly because it didn’t offer anything interesting, and the company needs to rehabilitate itself. Secondly, in 2019 the anniversary will be presented samsung smartphone Galaxy S10 is the tenth generation of the flagship, which is bound to become truly revolutionary.

We expect the smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, 3D facial recognition, three or four rear cameras, and a new processor. We will also definitely see a completely frameless design, which we have been waiting for a long time. Read more about what the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be like in our preview below.

Design

It is possible that one Samsung version The Galaxy S10 (possibly S10 Mini) may not have an in-display fingerprint sensor. According to the SamMobile editors, a more budget version of the Galaxy is also being prepared for release, where the fingerprint recognition sensor is located on the side.

The case is protected from water and dust according to the IP68 standard. At the back we will see the usual glass cover. The number of cameras located on it remains a mystery. In light of recent events, it is possible that there will be four modules: a main one, a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens with two- or three-fold zoom, as well as a black-and-white module or a separate sensor for determining depth of field.

The phone will not lose a mini-jack for headphones, will have stereo speakers and a charging port USB Type-C. The opportunity to expand will not disappear either. internal memory smartphone.

In September, Samsung CEO DJ Koh said the Galaxy S10 would come in a "staggering" range of color options. We will find out what the Koreans have prepared for us when the device comes out.

Display

The larger version of the Galaxy S10 will be equipped with a 6.2- or 6.3-inch screen, while the small one will have a 5.8-inch display. Super AMOLED matrices are expected, as in previous Galaxies.

In March 2018, Samsung patents surfaced containing drawings of a smartphone in which the front panel is 99% occupied by the display. Front camera in this case, it can be under the screen, or located in a special retractable module, as in Vivo NEX. Obviously, the developers also hid the sensors under glass.

There is no doubt that the screen will be excellent, because in previous models it was their calling card. There will be enough brightness, the viewing angles should also please us. The picture will probably remain the same oversaturated, but the color rendition can be adjusted in the system settings.

Sound and communication

The company will continue to install stereo speakers. Surely they will be developed in collaboration with the Harman Kardon corporation, owned by Samsung. Let us remind you that the sound in the Galaxy S9 was one of the best among all smartphones. The C10 will have an audio jack, and is also expected to support aptX HD and LDAC to improve sound in wireless headphones.

The developers will install NFC, which works in Russia and other CIS countries. There are speculations that a version of the S10 will be released with support for 5G networks, but there is little confirmation of this information.

Firmware

We still know almost nothing about what the company will implement in the new operating system, but we have several leaks and assumptions.

First, it's almost certain that Samsung's 2019 flagship will ship with Android 9.0 P. We're also expecting to see a major update to Bixby since Samsung acquired Viv, the startup created by the founders of Siri. We hope that this assistant will finally become useful.

There's also a chance that the Galaxy S10 will come with improved activity and health tracking apps. According to a recently published patent by Let's Go Digital, Samsung is working on an app that detects your skin type and can offer recommendations for limiting sun exposure.

We really hope that Samsung will work on the smoothness of the firmware, because their Exynos-powered smartphones sometimes managed to lag more than budget phones from Meizu. will appear dark theme, and the DEX mode will also be improved, which still works well.

Cameras

Samsung installs at least three lenses on the rear panel. There is no doubt about it. But why stop at three rear lenses? Insiders report that Samsung will add a second front-facing lens to improve portrait mode performance.

Engineers will install completely new modules into the new product (their characteristics are not yet known). The main one will be focused on improving photo quality in low light. Perhaps they will show us a 48-megapixel sensor. Telephoto (2x or 3x zoom) and wide-angle (120-degree) lenses should also have optical stabilization.

In terms of video, there should be improvements in terms of stabilization. Improved HDR video technology cannot be ruled out, because something needs to be done to respond to the Smart HDR feature introduced by Apple. Also, thanks to the new processors, recording in 4K 120 FPS, 1080p 960 FPS or even 8K 30 FPS can be realized, which, of course, is unlikely.

There will be two cameras on the front. It's unclear what improvements this will bring, since blur works very well without an auxiliary sensor. Perhaps the company will offer new functionality, redesigned Animoji and other goodies, selfie features based on AI.

Performance

Samsung in February announced it was investing $5.6 billion in a new factory to create 7-nanometer chipsets. Qualcomm also recently released the first samples of Snapdragon 855 using this process technology and sent them to vendors for testing.

Obviously, the international version of the Galaxy S10 will have an Exynos 9820 processor, and the American version will have a Snapdragon 855. The configuration of the Samsung processor is not yet known, but there is no doubt that the new Cortex-A76 cores, which are already present in the Kirin 980, will be used there. We assume that the corporation will not abandon the big.LITTLE architecture, which will have four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores and 4 productive Cortex-A76 cores. But there is news that the SoC will have three clusters, built on the principle of 4 + 2 + 2, not 4 + 4. The Mali-G76 should be responsible for the graphics.

It is extremely important that Samsung will put new LPDDR5 memory on the board and install a UFS 3.0 type drive, which will significantly increase the speed of the phone. UFS 3.0, in particular, consumes less power, processes requests faster and is more stable at high temperatures. LPDDR5 has faster read and write speeds that will allow you to use new content, for example, creating videos in 8K.

In synthetic tests AnTuTu and Geekbench the increase should be significant. However, there are big questions about the stability of such a powerful phone, since the corporation simply may not implement high-quality heat dissipation and power supply.

Autonomy

We are waiting for an increase in the speed of the devices. Moreover, the battery capacity may change slightly or remain the same, but the energy efficiency of the components will mean that the phone can be used longer without recharging.

Charging should become faster thanks to the new Quick Charge from Qualcomm and updated technology in the SoC Exynos 9820. Wireless charging will also remain on board.

Release date

It should be expected that new mobile phone will be announced at next year's Mobile World Congress, which starts on February 25. The exact release date has not yet been revealed. If Samsung follows a similar plan for the S10 as it did for the S9, the phone will hit shelves in mid-March 2019.

The price is not mentioned anywhere. Considering the number of innovations and the price tag for Apple products, Koreans can ask for at least $900, or even $1000 for the junior version of the flagship.

Bottom line

If everything goes as leaks and analyst reviews say, then we will see the chic smartphones S10, S10 Plus and, possibly, S10 Mini, which we have been waiting for a long time, but Apple and Samsung did not want to show them to us in the same year, rolling out pass-through flagships. In the tenth Galaxy we will see a scattering of innovations that are truly important for us as users and for the industry as a whole.

We have been waiting for true framelessness for a long time, and it is already close. The new processor also opens up wide possibilities for working with AR, video recording, and photo production. Therefore, we hope that we will see these and other changes early next year in the Samsung Galaxy S10.

Tenth flagship Samsung and big changes.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 could be the most exciting phone of 2019, but only if the company makes some radical changes.

The range gave us cool phones, but they didn’t reach 10 stars, so we’re waiting for major changes that will help the manufacturer remain a leader in the face of fierce competition from companies like Apple and Huawei.

Not much is known about the Galaxy S10 at the moment, but we are already getting the first rumors, some of which you will find below.

And below you will find a list of our wishes, including an in-display fingerprint scanner and new design. The good news is that if early rumors are to be believed, we may be getting at least one of these features.

Let's go!

  • What is this? Samsung's next flagship;
  • What is the price? Traditionally, very expensive;
  • When should we expect it? Probably early 2019;

SAMSUNGGALAXYS10: RELEASE DATE

Samsung Galaxy S10 will most likely be released in early 2019. More specifically, we would bet on January, at CES 2019, there is already one rumor confirming this. The exhibition will take place from January 8 to 11.

Otherwise, the smartphone may launch at MWC 2019 as Samsung announced the Galaxy S9 range at MWC 2018.

Next year's show will take place between February 25 and 29, so mark the dates on your calendar if you want to see the next S unveiled.

NextGalaxyS fromSamsung will most likely release in early 2019.

Samsung doesn't always bill its Galaxy S flagships the same way, but the latest models were unveiled in the early months of the year, so we'd be surprised not to spot a Samsung Galaxy S10 before the end of March 2019. Of course, whenever a smartphone is announced by a manufacturer, it cannot be purchased on the same day.

When the smartphone goes on sale, it will be expensive. There's no word on pricing yet, but the Galaxy S9 launched at $720, while the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus went on sale for $840, so we expect the Galaxy S10 range to cost no less .

SAMSUNGGALAXYS10: NEWS AND RUMORS

We haven't heard anything about the Samsung Galaxy S10 yet, but one thing that's been circulating by word of mouth is the in-display fingerprint scanner.

The latest report claims that the manufacturer is using a Qualcomm ultrasonic scanner, and the fact that Vivo and Huawei have already shown their phones with similar scanners is in favor of the manufacturer, Samsung will not want to lag behind.

This is also consistent with an earlier rumor that says that while the in-screen scanner won't be ready for release, it will be ready next year, making the Samsung Galaxy S10 a prime candidate.

Analytical guesses aren't always reliable, but this would be a smart decision if Samsung wants to compete with the iPhone's triple-lens capabilities.

Three cameras may be better than two.

We've also heard that Samsung may rename the range, launching the next model as the Samsung Galaxy X rather than the Galaxy S10. This may seem unlikely, but Ko Dong-jin, head of Samsung's mobile division, said, "We were thinking about whether we should keep the S in the name or rely on the numbering system," so it's possible.

There are also thoughts on what the Samsung Galaxy S10 will be powered by, as it may reportedly use an unannounced one (at least in some regions). This is said to be a 7nm chipset, which is smaller and likely more powerful and efficient than what you'll find in most 2018 flagships.

It is believed that the 855 will be able to support theoretical download speeds of up to 2 Gbps, the Galaxy S9 is limited to 1.2 Gbps for now. However, don't expect to get anywhere near these numbers in the real world. However, the update seems significant.

SAMSUNGGALAXYS10: WHAT DO WE WANT TO SEE?

Like the Samsung Galaxy S9, it promises to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8, so we hope Samsung gets things right with the S10. That's what we want to see.

GALAXY S10: NEW DESIGN

Smartphone designSamsung is too well known at the moment.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 looks almost identical to the Galaxy S8, so it's time to get a new design from the South Korean company.

Regardless of whether it means a notch on the screen, new material or even a foldable smartphone, we're counting on Samsung for new ideas.

GALAXYS10: 2 / 3 CAMERAS ON BOTH MODELS

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus has a dual camera setup, the standard Galaxy S9 only has a single camera. With the new Galaxy S10, we want both models to have dual cameras, or even better, triple ones. After all, Huawei P20 Pro already offered a similar solution.

Samsung has a long history of producing excellent cameras for its smartphones, but this year it has a worthy competitor in Huawei, so with the Galaxy S10 we want to see some steps forward.

The good news is that there are already rumors of a triple-lens camera, although it's unclear whether that will be the case standard model or only S10 Plus.

GALAXY S10: BUILT-IN FINGER SCANNER

Rear-mounted scanners will soon disappear from high-end smartphones.

Rumors of an in-display fingerprint scanner have been circulating for various phones, and the Galaxy S10 is no exception, but now that other companies have released commercially available devices with this technology, we're awaiting a solution from Samsung.

Having an in-display scanner means it doesn't have to take up screen real estate or sit awkwardly on the back, and it also has a high-tech look that will make other smartphone owners jealous.

GALAXYS10: PHOTOS BRIGHTER!

While the overall quality of photos taken with the Samsung Galaxy S9 is extremely high, some lack stabilization and others appear unnecessarily blurry in some shooting conditions. This is especially true when there is background lighting, so we expect the Samsung Galaxy S10 to be able to handle this better.

GALAXY S10: IMPROVEDAR EMOJI

AREmoji really needs some updating.

AR Emoji were one of the most hyped features of the Galaxy S9, becoming in practice one of the least impressive aspects of the phone.

There are several reasons for this. Aside from their inherently awkward nature, it can be difficult to create an emoji that looks like you. When you're recording video using emoji, facial recognition simply isn't powerful enough to get it right.

While AR Emoji will likely never become a major feature if Samsung continues to use them, we'd like to see them on par with Apple's Animoji.

GALAXYS10: OPERATING TIME

Battery life is a parameter that does not increase with each new generation of phones. In fact, sometimes it gets worse. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, you won't get more than a day of battery life.

While this is good enough for anyone who doesn't mind putting their phone on charge every night, it's worth remembering that the battery will start to wear out over time, so a day's battery life when you buy a smartphone becomes less than a day after a year or two.

So we do expect improvements in the Galaxy S10's battery department, even if it comes through a larger battery that was frankly small on the Galaxy S9 (3000 mAh), although we'll also be happy with improved hardware and software efficiency.

GALAXYS10: OFF THE PANELS

We've already said that we want a new design from the Galaxy S10, but we'd like it to come with no bezels at all. We don’t want a cutout either, just a screen for the entire phone.

We're not expecting this, not least because this solution would likely involve embedding the camera and sensors into the screen panel, but it is possible and would certainly be less ambitious than the foldable smartphone we're also expecting to get from Samsung in 2019.

The folding one is expected to be released in 2019.
