When transferring the phone to a new owner, purchasing it second-hand, or serious errors in optimization, you may need to WiththrowXiaomito factory settings. On all new models, the reset operation is carried out approximately the same way and is quite simple, although it requires practice. This article will discuss the methods that work for the latest model Mi, Mi Note and Redmi smartphones.

Via the main menu

The Xiaomi phone manufacturer provides a simple reset method using the “Backup and reset” settings item. Performed with a couple of clicks and confirmed with the main system password.

This is enough for 95% of tasks. The remaining 5% comes from experiments with the system, bootloader and root access, which can “brick” the phone. Also, the system may stop loading due to viruses and other malicious programs.

In such cases, hard reset or full reset settings will have to be made bypassing the bootloader.

Through recovery mode

Xiaomi blocks the bootloader for a number of reasons, the main one of which is difficulty accessing operating system phone to resellers, who often install their own OS, additional software or even virus programs.

Therefore, to reset the settings via the bootloader, you must first unlock it. The application for unlocking is submitted on the official website http://en.miui.com/unlock/, this point cannot be bypassed. Approval takes about a week on average; in specific cases, the period may vary.

After unlocking, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your smartphone.
  2. Turn it on by holding down the power and volume up buttons at the same time.
  3. Release the buttons when the company logo appears on the screen.
  4. Select English from the list.
  5. You should now be in the main menu of the device. Select the item that says Reset or Wipe using the function keys.
  6. Select the Wipe User Data sub-item, which means completely wiping the phone to factory settings.
  7. Confirm a complete data reset to factory settings, wait for the procedure to complete and reboot.

This method works by default on all Qualcomm processors. If you make a mistake when choosing between English and Chinese, restart your phone and start over, do not try to enter menu items without understanding their meaning.

Using third-party recovery bootloaders

In some extremely rare cases, a Xiaomi device will pretend to be a brick, and the factory recovery will not work for unknown reasons. There is another option - resetting the settings through a custom recovery mode, like TWRP Recovery.

In addition to recovery, third-party recovery has a lot of advantages, such as system backups, advanced cleaning algorithms for the paranoid, system recovery, gaining root access, installing non-standard software, and much more.

How to reset Xiaomi for non-standard bootloaders? The algorithm is almost the same:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Turn it on by holding down the Volume and Power keys.
  3. Look for the words Wipe, Factory Reset, Delete all user data or something similar. Most custom recoveries only have English, so you need to have at least a minimal understanding of it.
  4. If during cleaning the system asks questions like “Wipe Dalvik Cash? Yes/No", agree. Dalvik cache (or simply cache) is a set of data for optimizing programs running on a Java machine. Clearing it will erase all unnecessary information from the device and may eliminate some problems when launching applications.
  5. After completing the factory reset of Xiaomi, reboot your device.

You can update recovery mode via Google Play, if the device has root access. The same TWRP with more than a million installations can be found. The bootloader can also be loaded via a USB cable connected to the computer.

Possible risks and problems

Remember that only resetting settings via Android settings. Other methods may damage your phone. various reasons. Do not carry out any operations with recovery or changing the bootloader without fully charging the phone.

Before resetting the settings, remove the SIM card and SD drive, otherwise the cleaning may affect them too. There is no way to recover data after a reset, so make sure that all valuable information is outside the phone at the time of reset.

If you use custom recovery systems, backup the phone image to your computer. This will help restore your smartphone to working condition in the event of a breakdown.

Forgot your Xiaomi Redmi 3s, 3 Pro, 4 password? Reset password on Xiaomi.

Sometimes a user may simply not remember the password that he himself set on his Xiaomi. And in this case, especially if the fingerprint no longer helps to unlock the smartphone, you will have to reset the combination. In new firmware versions this is much more difficult to do than in MIUI 7 and lower.

Attention, these methods will not help you reset your Mi account or Google profile password! They can only reset the password for the phone itself.

Standard method for old phones

In Xiaomi smartphones with version MIUI 7 (for example Redmi 3s) or older, it was possible to unlock the device even if the password for it was lost. There was a “Forgot your password?” button for this purpose. It was displayed after five unsuccessful attempts to unlock the phone, and allowed you to regain control over it.

If your smartphone still has this function, you can use it like this:

  1. Enter the wrong password five times;
  2. Tap on “Forgot your password” or Forgot Password;
  3. Select an account to restore (either Mi account or Google mail is used);
  4. Enter the password for the selected account;
  5. Change forgotten code or a pattern for a new one.

That's it. This very simple function has saved the day many times, but for some reason it was removed in MIUI 8.

How to remove password from Xiaomi with version MIUI 8 (Redmi 4) onwards

You should immediately tune in to the unpleasant. If your smartphone is locked and you can’t remember the password, you’ll have to say goodbye to all your personal data. Because you will have to reset it to factory settings. All that can be saved is information from the memory card and SIM card, which must be removed from the phone before the start.

Moreover, this method is available only to those who have an unlocked bootloader on Xiaomi or are authorized in a Mi or Google account. In the first case, all smartphones that were released in November 2015 or later do not have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, the only option left for them is to reset the password through accounts that it would be advisable to create immediately after purchasing Xiaomi.

Reset password on Xiaomi using Google and Mi accounts

IN new version firmware when you click on the “Forgot your password?” button. The smartphone will only give instructions on what you can do:

  1. Go to i.mi.com;
  2. Log in using your Mi account;
  3. Click on “Search for device”;
  4. Select your locked smartphone;
  5. Click on “Clean device”.

This operation is a “legal” way Hard Reset, which cannot be done manually when the bootloader is locked. After this, the password should be removed and the phone can be used again.

Unlocking via Google account works in a similar way - it must be activated on the affected Xiaomi. But instead of a computer, you will need any other modern Android device. Necessary:

  1. Log in to your account Google on someone else's smartphone or tablet;
  2. Download a program from Google Play called Find My Device (don’t worry, it was developed by Google and does not pose a danger to the device);
  3. Select a blocked smartphone from the list;
  4. Wait until the application is installed remotely on the device - blocking it is not a hindrance, as long as there is internet;
  5. Go to website https://www.google.com/android/find?hl=ru and enter there the password for the Google account associated with the smartphone;
  6. Find the affected Xiaomi phone in the list;
  7. Activate the function of resetting your smartphone to factory settings and wait.

After this, the phone will be as clean as a baby's tear. Naturally, there will be no password on it either. You can safely use it.

Resetting the password on Xiaomi using Hard Reset

If it is not possible to use more or less “official” methods, then you will have to reset to factory settings. We remind you that it is only available for those Xiaomi whose bootloader was previously unlocked.

In order to remove the password, you will have to:

  1. Turn off the device;
  2. With the device turned off, hold down the power button and volume up;
  3. Wait until the menu appears.

Recovery different smartphones may look different. For older versions it is like this:

This requires:

  1. On the first screen, tap on English (if control via the display does not work, then you can navigate through the items using the volume rocker, and select them - Power button);
  2. Select the Wipe & Reset section;
  3. Then click on Wipe All Data and confirm your selection;
  4. Wait until the device resets all settings.

Later firmware versions display a Recovery menu with a similar structure:

Here you need:

  1. Click on the lower right button (above the wide blue one) if the menu is displayed in Chinese;
  2. Then click on the Recovery button;
  3. When the question appears, click OK.

On the newest firmware versions, you will have to additionally use a special program from Xiaomi, which is necessary for unlocking. A regular Hard Reset cannot be done. But you may not unlock the bootloader.

As a rule, after clicking OK, as in the last list of actions, the device reboots and begins to require connection to the computer. Therefore, you need to wait until it does this, but do not immediately connect it to the PC. Instead you need:

Go to the website http://pcsuite.mi.com/, download the program and install it on your computer;

After which you can reboot your phone using the same program by clicking on the corresponding Reboot button. The reboot may take several minutes. After turning it on, you need to reconfigure your smartphone (language, country and other data necessary for operation). And you can use it.

There are too many input attempts, what should I do?

If it turns out that attempts to remember the password put the smartphone into “anabiosis” for several days with the message “Too many entry attempts,” but the owner still remembered the password, it is not necessary to do a Hard Reset or wait. There is a way to quickly remove the blocking, but it will cost a little money.

It's very simple. You need to call from any other phone to yours, accept the call and then simply minimize the conversation window (do not reset!). While there is a call on the smartphone, you can use Xiaomi. Naturally, the faster all the following actions are completed, the less money will be spent on the conversation. Need to:

  1. Go to “Settings”;
  2. Go to “Security”;
  3. Find the “Password” section there;
  4. Remove code entry or graphic password, for which you will need to select the appropriate line;
  5. Enter the old remembered password;
  6. Save changes.

In most cases, after the call is reset, the phone will no longer require a password to unlock it.

Not often, but sometimes it happens that the phone simply stops working, starts to glitch, does not turn on, or completely refuses to respond to any actions. In order to somehow revive your smartphone, you can try resetting Xiaomi to factory settings. We will discuss how to do this in this article.

  1. Automatic tailoring using PC Suite and factory reset on xiaomi

We hope that our material was useful to you, and if you have any questions, ask them in the comments. We will try to help.

There are many reasons why you have to do a Hard Reset on Xiaomi: the smartphone needs to be cleaned before selling, Android has started to slow down, or you have forgotten the password or graphic lock. In any of these situations, resetting the settings will help.

When performing a Hard Reset, the internal memory of the phone is cleared, that is, linked accounts, contacts, settings, games and applications are deleted. Files located on the SD card, such as photos, videos, downloaded tracks, will remain intact. If the SD card was used as internal memory(this option is available in many firmwares, starting with Android 6.0 Marshmallow) – it will be cleared. So don't forget to do backup so as not to lose important data!

Standard way to reset Xiaomi settings

1. Go to “Settings” and in the “System and device” section, select “Advanced settings”.

2. Open the “Backup and Reset” item.

3. At the very bottom, select “Reset settings”.

4. Click on the “Reset settings” button.

5. If a pattern or password is installed, you need to enter it.

6. Then the system will warn you twice that the data will be deleted. If you agree, click “Next” and “OK”.

5. And then “Confirm”.

Resetting the settings (along with it the pattern will be deleted) will take some time - at the end you will see the inscription “Data wiped Successfully”. Click "Back to Main Menu".

To boot the system, you must select “Reboot” in Mi Recovery.

And after “Reboot to System”.

Hard Reset via Google's Find My Device service

If you previously logged into your Xiaomi phone or tablet Google account, you can reset the settings remotely using the Find Device service. To do this, go to https://www.google.com/android/find and log in.

And finally agree by selecting “Clear”.

At the end, a notification “Your device has been erased” will appear and the reset will begin. If the device is offline, Hard Reset will be performed the first time you connect to the Network.

Making a Hard Reset on Xiaomi using Mi PC Suite

Owners of Xiaomi phones that open the firmware mode instead of Recovery must use the Chinese version of the Mi PC Suite utility to reset the settings (of course, the pattern or password) (not every device recognizes the English version).

Download the file from Yandex.Disk via the link to your computer, run it and complete the installation, agreeing to all requests.

Switch your smartphone to firmware mode by holding down the power and volume up buttons. On your PC, launch the Chinese version of Mi PC Suite.

Connect Xiaomi via USB. A new window will pop up on top of Mi PC Suite, but if this does not happen, click as shown in the screenshot.

In the window that opens, select this item.

The system and password will be reset, and data will be deleted from the internal memory. To reboot the device into Android system, you need to click on the last item.

The first launch after cleaning will take a few minutes.
