Avira antivirus products provide the ability to manual update virus base. This can be useful when the computer is not connected to the Internet. In this case, you can download the virus databases on another computer and transfer them using a USB drive or CD.

Update Avira versions 2012 - 2017:

There are two ways to obtain a file with Avira updates: downloading a ready-made archive, or creating this archive using the "Avira Fusebundle" utility.

To create an archive using the utility, download and unpack the archive avira_fusebundlegen-win32-en.zip and run the file fusebundle.exe. Wait while the utility downloads the updates and creates an archive. When the utility finishes, the window will disappear. Update file vdf_fusebundle.zip will be located in the folder with the utility, in the folder install:

Note. When using the update utility Avira 2012 in64-bit system, open the file fusebundle.conf in any text editor, find the line "platform=" and change it to "platform=win32".

Transfer the file vdf_fusebundle.zip to the computer on which you want to update Avira antivirus (for example, using a USB flash drive or CD). Open the main Avira window and select "Update" - "Manual update/Manual update" in the top menu:

Specify the path to the file vdf_fusebundle.zip and click "Open". If the file is not visible, change the file type at the bottom of the window to nVDF:

Wait for the update process to complete:

Help please, I installed an antivirus Avira Free Antivirus , but for some reason the Avira Web Protection module (a cool thing, I recommend it), which protects the computer from ransomware banners and other nasty things when surfing the Internet, is disabled for me, although I know that free version it should work. What did I do wrong and how to fix it, I really need this module. Maybe the fact is that I downloaded the antivirus itself from a third-party resource, and not from the official website. And I also wanted to say. Imagine, the most interesting thing is that most users believe that the free antivirus programs you described in the article are paid. Even some consultants in computer stores are confused and cannot say with certainty what is paid and what is free.

Avira Free Antivirus

Friends, how do viruses get to our computer from the Internet? Here's how. Everything that we see on Internet pages when traveling across the network, for example HTML files, images, as well as scripts, and so on, all this first of all goes into the browser cache, and then for execution in the web browser, that’s it All. The Web Protection module monitors and checks for viruses the transfer of files over the network; in fact, the tool is good and we will also install and review it, but know that you cannot rely on it completely. Therefore, do not turn off your head while surfing the Internet.

Well, about where to download what you need. • SocialShield feature.

Flaws:

  • outdated interface;
  • no email protection;
  • no own firewall.

The application allows you to generate virus reports, keep an event log and scan programs. In addition, we can create exclusion rules or set priority levels for certain processes.

Recently, the official antivirus support service simply exploded with questions from users who were faced with the problem of lack of program updates and virus databases. The first reason may be that it is used outdated version product. To solve the problem, you need to visit the Avira website and download the latest version of the program.

The next problem could be incorrect installation and setting up an Internet connection. To solve the problem, you need to check your connection settings and also make sure that the firewall is configured correctly. What to do in this case and how to update Avira manually yourself - read on.

Removing files that interfere with updating

Why is there no auto-update feature? In rare cases, Avira will no longer be able to perform automatic or manual updates. This is caused by the RebootPending.txt file, which remains in the Avira installation directory even after rebooting the computer. As a result, the computer waits for a subsequent restart after a reboot and therefore fails to establish a connection and automatically and manually update antivirus program can't.

Manual deletion of the RebootPending.txt file subsequently allows normal automatic and manual Avira product updates:

  1. Open the Avira console using the Avira icon in the taskbar.
  2. Go to “Settings” – “General” – “Security” and disable the “Protect files and registry entries from modification” option.
  3. Delete the RebootPending.txt file from the following Avira directory:
  • Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt
  • Windows 8 / 8.1: C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt
  • Windows 10: C:\ProgramData\Avira\Antivirus\CONFIG\RebootPending.txt

If the "ProgramData" folder is not visible, you need to activate the "Show hidden files and folders" in the Windows Control Panel.

  1. Return to “Settings” – “General” – “Security” and turn on the “Protect files and registry entries from modification” option again.
  2. Confirm the change by clicking "Apply" and "OK".
  3. Update your antivirus.

Updating Avira manually using Fusebundle Generator

Here's how to update your Avira antivirus software manually. Please note that this should work for all versions of Avira - Free, Premium or Security Suite. The method has been tested in several Windows versions, including 7 and 10. The utility introduced a new method for the manual update procedure back in 2012. If the new method doesn't help, try the second one.

Manual update using Avira Fusebundle Generator (from 2012 products)

What should I do to keep Avira updated? First, find the right one for your operating system Fusebundle Generator. Download and install it in new folder, be sure to remember the location. The purpose of this generator is to allow the latest database signature to be loaded on your computer while it creates VDF archives locally, in an incremental manner. The next time you want to update your Avira products, you will only download the latest signatures added to new archive VDF, not the full database again.

IMPORTANT! The method will only work for versions after 2012; for older versions, the second method described below is used.

If for some reason the method does not work, use old way(next).

Update Avira manually without an internet connection - download the VDF file.

If the antivirus has stopped updating, to manually update you need to find and download the appropriate IVDF file. You can save the file to your desktop or create a new folder - just make sure you remember where you saved the file.

Now you need to copy the IVDF file (latest software update file) to a USB drive, external hard drive or burn the IVDF file to CD. You will need to copy this file to a PC that does not have internet access.

After this, launch Avira and from the program interface (in the menu) select “Update” and then “Manual update”. Locate the IVDF file (latest definition file), if it is still on your USB drive, external hard drive or CD, navigate to that location, if it is on a PC without internet access, select the IVDF file and click Open . After this, the antivirus must be updated using the latest versions of the threat databases.

At least one of these methods should work. Obviously, the first of them remains operational, but about the second, unfortunately, it is impossible to say with certainty how long it will work. Avira Free Antivirus is indeed a very fast antivirus that effectively outperforms many paid competitors. This application is ideal for people with weaker computers who do not expect a nice looking antivirus.

Avira Free Antivirus does not update

It happens that Avira antivirus various reasons not updated. The program may periodically issue messages
that the update failed for some reason, the umbrella (icon on the panel) may close, etc.
In different cases, you need to act accordingly.
Here are some tips that will most likely help you.
So, the first thing you need to do is open the main antivirus window.

Note: recently the program has been “overgrown” with different shells and additional interfaces,
therefore, many simply do not know how to open the main window. Just in case: it opens by running the file avcenetr.exe
usually located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Antivirus(the address may be different on your computer)

By clicking on the button in the top menu, try to start the update:

If the antivirus has been updated, then everything is in order and you just need to configure the program to
updates were performed automatically. How to do this is described.

If the attempt to start the update did not lead to anything, then go to this page and download the update generator
(select the version for your operating system),
unpack the archive and run the file fusebundle.exe from the folder.
The database will begin downloading with the update to the same folder.
After it downloads, select “manual update” in the antivirus menu and specify the vdf archive (vdf_fusebundle.zip) from the downloaded folder.
(it can be nested in another folder, for example with the name install)

Note: it may happen that when you open the guide using the “manual update” button,
Explorer will not see the archive, i.e. you know for sure that the archive is there, but the explorer does not see it.
Then, while in that folder (notice the path in the top box), just copy and paste into the bottom
explorer field name vdf_fusebundle.zip as shown in the picture and click the button Open.

The update process will begin. A reboot may be required.

FOR UPDATE ISSUES ARISING IN SPRING 2018:

After Roskomnadzor began to block various services such as Telegram,
then the blocking could also affect those users who are not involved in these services in any way,
including problems with updating the Avira antivirus (the connection cannot be established).
Let's hope that the problem will be resolved soon. In the meantime, you can solve it yourself either
using a manual update (see above), or using any VPN. Can be installed
VPN from Avira itself, and turn it on while updating the antivirus. To do this, click the antivirus icon in the panel and find
on the list Phantom VPN, press Install(or just download it from here), after which your window will look like this
picture below. Click Connect. Once the VPN is connected, the VPN icon in the notification bar will become
green. Now update your antivirus, everything should work. After the update, VPN can be disabled.

If all this does not help, then there is a problem with the configuration and you need to restore it.
It's not difficult. To do this, download (if you don’t have it) installation file antivirus (the file that is the largest)
and launch it...
A window will appear in which we select “Restore”

After this, the updates should work normally, but you may need to restart your computer.

Another tip if you have problems downloading the update:
Make sure that the update.exe file is not blocked by your personal firewall
