After going online, the ASUS N71JQ laptop in the form of Windows 7 Home Premium downloaded some kind of update, and it started to freeze; if at the entrance, after 30 minutes of “work,” it even gave an error, then at the exit from the window, it froze tightly: Shutdown.. Well, let's restore from the hidden partition.

On ASUS laptops, instead of the Windows 7 installation disk, there is a hidden HDD "Recovery" partition. To activate recovery, you usually just need to press the F9 button when booting the laptop, select the recovery interface language: Russian.

In ASUS Preload Wizard, you can select the number of partitions on the HDD/SSD; by default, the disk is divided into three partitions (one of which is hidden). Therefore, if we have a small SSD, then it is better to choose option two: Restore Windows to the entire HD (it will be created from two partitions - one and one will remain hidden). Click on the button: Next.

This will help you restore pre-installed applications (most of which will need to be uninstalled again later) to their original state. If you have access to your hard drive, back up your important data before performing a restore.

To start the recovery process, click on the button: Finish.

We monitor the status indicator of the recovery process.

After recovery we receive the message: Recovery finish. Press OK to shutdown your system. Click on the button: OK.

In the window: Windows Settings, select the interface language: Russian.

Enter the username and computer name and click on the button: Next.

If necessary, enter and confirm the password to log into the laptop.

We accept the license terms (this is necessary to use Windows).

We make a decision on automatic computer protection:

Select the time zone, date and time. Click on the button: Next.

The following message will appear: Preparing the desktop...

The entire system is installed and configured, and for the changes to take effect, you must restart the computer.

After removing unnecessary and necessary utilities that came with the laptop, when it exits sleep mode, the cooler begins to rotate at maximum speed and blows cold air. Also, when rebooting, it does not turn off and does not reset, you need to turn off and turn on the laptop. One of the utilities responsible for Power4Gear Hybrid energy saving modes:

And its basic settings do not give access to selecting the fan rotation speed. Click on the button: Advanced Settings:

But in the additional power settings there are no fan rotation settings. The only interesting point is the choice of ATI Powerplay when running on battery power.

Almost every laptop that you can buy at a computer hardware store comes complete with an operating system. This has its advantages: you don’t have to spend money on buying an operating system, and there’s also no need to waste time installing the system. The presence of an operating system on a laptop's hard drive indicates that the hard drive contains a hidden partition that is used to restore factory settings. Some users deliberately overwrite this partition to increase disk space; some are not even aware of the existence of this partition.

If you did not know about the existence of this hidden drive and want to use it for its intended purpose, you can use special keyboard shortcuts. To properly use the system recovery function and application programs, you need to know these keyboard shortcuts. The so-called hot keys must be pressed while the computer is booting, i.e. at the moment when the operating system crashes and cannot boot on its own. When you press the hotkeys, you will be taken to the factory reset menu.

Each laptop manufacturer has developed its own system for restoring settings; accordingly, the hot keys will differ. Below is a list of hotkeys from major laptop manufacturers:

Samsung - press F4;

Fujitsu Siemens - press F8;

Toshiba - press F8;

Asus - press F9;

Sony VAIO - press F10;

Packard Bell - press F10;

HP Pavilion - press F11;

LG - press F11;

Lenovo ThinkPad - press F11;

Acer - in BIOS, activate Disk-to-Disk (D2D) mode, then press Alt+F10;

Dell (Inspiron) - press Ctrl+F11

Laptop manufacturers assure that you will be able to restore the system, but the integrity of files or folders that are important to you is unlikely. Therefore, do not forget to frequently make copies of your files on removable media: CD/DVD drives, flash media, etc.

ASUS laptops have long been equipped with a convenient utility for resetting settings. This utility will help you return to factory state in just two simple steps. You need to read carefully, and the utility will do the rest, as I already wrote, for you.

To return your Asus laptop to factory settings, you must follow the following steps in sequence:

ASUS laptops have the boot booster feature enabled by default. She bothers us. To disable it, go to the BIOS. On ASUS laptops, the BIOS is launched by pressing the F2 button when turning on the device. The button must be pressed before the operating system starts loading. It would be wise to press it several times to let the laptop know what we want from it.

Once in the BIOS, go to the Boot tab. You can go to the tab using the arrows on the keyboard or using the mouse, if the BIOS supports it. In the Boot tab, you need to find the Boot Booster item, highlight it and press Enter. After pressing Enter, a window will open in which you need to select the Disabled item. In this way we will disable the quick start system, which will give us the opportunity to return to factory settings.

Now, using the arrows on your keyboard, go to the last tab and select Savechangesandexit and wait for it to activate. This will save your work in the BIOS and restart your laptop.

The recovery program will prepare all the necessary files, ask you again and begin system recovery. After this, system preparation for data recovery will begin. A message will appear on the screen indicating that all user settings will be deleted. You will need to confirm this action by clicking OK. Your further participation is not required. During the process, the laptop will reboot several times. Approximate waiting time is 30 minutes.

If for some reason (usually after updating through the official store to Windows 8.1) the hidden Recovery partition suddenly stopped working on your ASUS laptop, don’t despair and first read my article - maybe it will help you too.

I'll start with my story

Important! (amendment from 24-1-16) . I have not tested the utility on Win 10, it works on Win 8 and 8.1

  1. Run “ASUS Recovery.exe
  2. Run “ASUS Recovery.exe
  3. Click ‘Yes’ to begin the recovery process. Wait for the operation to complete. The system will reboot automatically within 1 minute.

Installed, rebooted. I started restoring the system and it was a miracle! The hidden Recovery partition was also found and everything worked!

As a result, I rolled back the system to its factory state, and then successfully updated it to Windows 8.1 without any hassle and unnecessary folders and files on my head.

But this time I was smarter and after the update I installed the ASUS Backtracker utility, with which I easily created an image of a freshly installed and updated system on a portable hard drive.

By the way, using ASUS Backtracker you can get to the Windows recovery management section if the F9 button does not work

“What is the moral of this whole story?” - you ask. And I will proudly answer you: “Anything can happen in life and you can’t insure yourself against everything in it, but if you regularly read my blog, then the troubles will clearly decrease. So that’s it...” — Joke.

P/S: If the problem persists, contact an authorized service centerASUS. The list of SPs can be seen

Recovery - what kind of program is this? Translated from English into Russian "recovery"- This "recovery". Recovery is a program preinstalled by the manufacturer on the hard drive of a laptop or in the internal memory of a smartphone, which allows you to roll back the device (laptop, phone, tablet) to its factory state. On smartphones, this program is launched from the off state by simultaneously pressing and holding the power button and the volume button (usually “up”, but sometimes “down” or both) for a few seconds. There is no such uniformity for laptops.

How to run recovery on laptops

After turning on the laptop, we begin to feverishly press the keys:
F3– MSI recovery;
F4– Samsung. Under OS it is possible through Samsung Recovery Solution;
F8– Fujitsu Siemens. In general, it often allows you to get into the proprietary Recovery utility on other laptops (through troubleshooting).
F8- Toshiba recovery;
F9- ASUS recovery;
F10- Sony VAIO. Under OS it is possible through VAIO Recovery Utility;
F10- Packard Bell;
F11- HP recovery;
F11- LG recovery;
F11- Lenovo recovery.
Alt+F10- Acer recovery. Before doing this, select Disk-to-Disk (D2D recovery) in the BIOS;
Ctrl+F11- Dell Inspiron;
F8 or F9- Dell XPS.
Clamp- Rover

The latest laptop models have a very good option that allows you to return the laptop to its factory state, which is very convenient. After installing the system on the laptop, you need to install all the drivers and programs. Now, after restoring the system, this is no longer necessary. This applies not only to Asus laptops, but in this article we will talk about them.

Over the past week, several laptops have arrived with problems loading the OS. In the latter case, the owner came with the question: “How to start restoring the Asus EEE PC system?”

In Asus laptops, system recovery is launched with the F9 key. In this article, the photos were taken while restoring the system on the Asus X54C-SX531R. On the hard drives (HDD) of laptops, a hidden partition of 20-30 GB in size has been created, which with simple means you cannot help but delete or format even on another computer (if you remove the HDD), but it is better not to delete the system recovery partition. When installing another operating system, you will have to manually search for and install suitable drivers.

Remember, the laptop battery must be fully charged, and in some models the laptop must be connected to the mains during the recovery process.

In order to start the recovery procedure for an Asus laptop, you must immediately after turning on the computer's power, press and hold the F9 key for several seconds. The following menu should appear.

Press enter.

Select the desired language from the drop-down list and click “Next”.

The window that appears will warn you that this software is intended exclusively for Asus laptops and will also warn you that the data on the disk will be destroyed. If you have saved all the necessary files, feel free to click “Next”.

Then you will be offered a choice on which partition to restore the system. Here the choice is yours, but to save the data in partition “D”, select “Restore Windows to the first partition” and click “next”.

From this moment the recovery procedure itself will begin. The beginning of it looks like this:

Don’t be nervous, don’t press or enter anything! After running system recovery on an asus laptop, this data is entered automatically by the laptop. Just wait until the desktop appears on the display and the laptop stops rebooting. In this case, the recovery process lasted more than 1 hour.
